Yes. Nintendo Switch 2 can play compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, including the Switch versions of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Nintendo lists both as supported, with gameplay behavior consistent with Nintendo Switch. Compatibility is not universal, so check the status of the exact Zelda game before relying on it.
Will your Zelda game card or digital copy work?
Nintendo says Switch 2 supports compatible Nintendo Switch game cards and digital games. The original Nintendo Switch release of Tears of the Kingdom is listed as supported by Nintendo. Its product page also confirms support for the Switch version of Echoes of Wisdom; Nintendo says that game has a free update to enhance play on Switch 2. For either title, the supported Switch release remains the original game, not the separate Switch 2 Edition.

These examples do not establish compatibility for every Zelda game. Nintendo warns that some Switch titles may not be supported or fully compatible because Switch 2 uses different hardware, and says compatibility statuses may change as testing and updates continue. Check Nintendo’s Switch 2 compatibility information for the exact title you want to play.
Original Switch game or Switch 2 Edition?
You do not need to buy a Switch 2 Edition just to play a compatible original Switch release. Nintendo offers distinct Switch 2 Editions for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, with enhancements such as improved performance and resolution, HDR support, and ZELDA NOTES; Nintendo’s Tears of the Kingdom page also lists faster loading. These are Nintendo-described features, not independent performance measurements. The Switch 2 Editions can only be played on Switch 2.

Save data and Breath of the Wild DLC
