No—not anymore. Pokémon Pokopia launched worldwide for Nintendo Switch 2 on March 5, 2026, so changing your Nintendo Account country to New Zealand cannot give you early access now. Nintendo says your account’s country setting determines which eShop you see; it does not promise that changing countries unlocks a particular game ahead of its release.
What the New Zealand trick was supposed to do
The idea was to change a Nintendo Account’s country to New Zealand, then use the New Zealand eShop to buy a game when it became available there. This relies on a real connection: Nintendo says the eShop country on Switch 2 follows the country set on the Nintendo Account, and the store updates the next time the console connects. But that store-setting rule is not a guarantee of earlier access for any specific release. Nintendo frames country changes as updates to your country of residence, not as an early-access feature. If you are considering a country change for another reason, check the account and purchase consequences first. Nintendo notes that an account may be unable to change countries while it has unused eShop balance, an active subscription auto-renewal, or an outstanding digital preorder. Supervised child accounts may face additional restrictions. The steps are to sign in to the Nintendo Account website, open your profile or user information, select the country/region setting, save the change, and confirm it. Nintendo says Switch 2 game cards are not region locked. That is separate from eShop country, region-specific cards, DLC compatibility, and account restrictions; buying a physical copy does not turn it into early digital access. Nintendo’s region compatibility FAQ.
