Can You Play PS5 on Two TVs? Exploring Multi-TV Gaming Options

A PS5 can mirror its picture on two TVs with a powered HDMI splitter or stream gameplay to another room with Remote Play. Here is what each option can—and cannot—do.

Yes—but only if you want the same PS5 picture on both screens, or a streamed version of the game on another device. A PS5 does not provide two independent native HDMI outputs. For mirrored gameplay, connect its HDMI OUT port to a powered 1×2 HDMI splitter. For another room, PS Remote Play can stream the console to a compatible Android TV, Google TV device, PC, Mac, phone, tablet, or PlayStation Portal.

Neither method turns one PS5 into two independent consoles. Two different games, separate viewpoints, or genuinely independent sessions generally require two PS5 consoles.

The best setup depends on what you mean by “play PS5 on two TVs”

Goal Best option What you get
Show the same game on both TVs Powered HDMI 1×2 splitter A mirrored picture and audio
Play from another room without HDMI cabling PS Remote Play Streamed gameplay with possible latency and compression
Use a second screen without buying another TV PlayStation Portal A dedicated handheld Remote Play display
Alternate between two TVs HDMI switch or manual cable swapping One active TV at a time
Run separate games or views Two PS5 consoles Two independent gaming sessions

Can a PS5 connect directly to two TVs?

Not in the normal console configuration. Sony documents connecting the PS5’s single HDMI OUT port to a television’s HDMI IN port; it does not document a built-in dual-TV output mode. See Sony’s PS5 hardware support documentation.

Do not try to use a television’s HDMI port as a second output. HDMI ports on TVs are generally inputs, and the PS5’s USB ports are not video outputs. The practical way to duplicate the console’s signal is to add external HDMI distribution hardware.

Method 1: Use a powered HDMI splitter

An HDMI splitter duplicates one source signal across multiple outputs:

PS5 HDMI OUT → powered HDMI splitter → HDMI TV 1
                                      └──→ HDMI TV 2

Both televisions normally show the same PS5 home screen, game, menus, and audio. A splitter does not create a second game session or a separate camera view.

What to look for when buying a splitter

Choose a unit that explicitly lists:

  • One HDMI input and two HDMI outputs.
  • HDCP compatibility for legitimate protected content.
  • The resolution and refresh rate you need.
  • HDR support if your TVs and games use HDR.
  • EDID management for negotiating display capabilities.
  • VRR and ALLM support if preserving PS5 gaming features matters.
  • Enough bandwidth for 4K at 120 Hz if that is your target.
  • Output downscaling if the TVs have different specifications.
  • A dedicated power adapter rather than relying only on HDMI power.

Do not assume that a product advertised as “8K” automatically supports 4K/120 Hz, VRR, HDR, and HDCP together. Check the exact specifications for the splitter, cables, and displays.

How to connect the PS5 to two TVs

  1. Turn off the PS5 and both TVs.
  2. Connect the PS5’s HDMI OUT port to the splitter’s HDMI input.
  3. Connect splitter output 1 to TV 1.
  4. Connect splitter output 2 to TV 2.
  5. Connect the splitter’s power adapter.
  6. Turn on both TVs and select their correct HDMI inputs.
  7. Turn on the PS5.
  8. On the PS5, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output.
  9. Review Current Video Output Signal to confirm the active resolution, HDR mode, and refresh rate.

Sony’s PS5 4K resolution guide explains the relevant video-output controls and the effect of connected equipment.

What both TVs will display

With a normal splitter:

  • Both TVs show the same game.
  • Both TVs show the same PS5 menus.
  • Changing the game on one screen changes it on the other.
  • Pausing the game pauses the shared console session.
  • A second controller does not create a second independent display.

A split-screen game can still support local multiplayer, but both TVs receive the same complete split-screen image. The TVs are not assigned separate players.

Mixed-TV limitations

Suppose one TV supports 4K/120 Hz and VRR while the other supports only 1080p/60 Hz. The splitter must negotiate a signal that both displays can accept. Depending on its EDID behavior, the PS5 may:

  • Fall back to 1080p.
  • Drop from 120 Hz to 60 Hz.
  • Disable HDR or VRR.
  • Show a picture on only one display.
  • Require manual EDID or downscaling settings.

A splitter with per-output downscaling may send a lower-resolution signal to the weaker TV while retaining a higher-resolution signal on the better one, but this depends on the exact product. A 4K/60 splitter is not sufficient for 4K/120-Hz PS5 gaming.

For high-bandwidth output, use the HDMI cable supplied with the PS5 or a certified Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. Cable length and wall routing also matter, especially when active electronics or extenders are involved.

Examples of splitter categories

For a 4K/60 setup, products such as the OREI UHDS-102 or AV Access 4KSP12-S are the type of HDMI 2.0-class hardware to investigate. They are not appropriate choices if your priority is PS5 4K/120-Hz output.

For an advertised HDMI 2.1-class 4K/120-Hz setup, the OREI BK-102 and BK-102A are examples of products whose listed specifications include features such as EDID management and HDCP 2.3. Confirm current stock, exact bandwidth, and support for your required VRR and HDR modes before buying; listed prices and availability can change.

Method 2: Use PS Remote Play on a second TV

PS Remote Play streams the PS5’s session over a network to another compatible device. To put the game on a second television, use a compatible Android TV or Google TV setup, or connect a compatible PC or Mac to that TV. Sony documents Remote Play support for compatible Android TV devices, Chromecast with Google TV, and certain Sony BRAVIA models; availability can vary by device and region. See Sony’s Android TV Remote Play requirements.

Enable Remote Play on the PS5

  1. Open Settings > System > Remote Play.
  2. Turn on Enable Remote Play.
  3. For use while the PS5 is in Rest Mode, open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode.
  4. Enable Stay Connected to the Internet.
  5. Enable Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.

On the receiving device, install the official PS Remote Play app where supported, sign in with the relevant PlayStation account, connect a compatible controller, select the PS5, and begin streaming. If automatic discovery fails, use Pair Device on the PS5 and enter the displayed code in the app. Sony’s Remote Play settings guide provides the current pairing path.

Network and controller requirements

Sony recommends at least 5 Mbps for Remote Play and 15 Mbps for a better experience. A wired network connection is usually preferable for the PS5 and receiving device, while a strong, uncongested Wi-Fi connection can also work.

Remote Play is not equivalent to a second HDMI output. It adds network-dependent latency and may produce compression, stutter, or disconnections. It is a reasonable option for casual single-player games and another-room access, but it is less suitable for rhythm games, fighting games, competitive shooters, or any title requiring precise timing.

Sony also excludes games requiring PlayStation VR or PS VR2, additional peripherals other than supported controllers, or PS Plus Premium game streaming from Remote Play. Check Sony’s current Remote Play compatibility information for device and game limitations.

  • 【Durable Metal Design】 Features a rugged metal housing for superior heat dissipation and EMI protection. Designed for 24/7 reliable performance in conference rooms, schools, and commercial environments.

Method 3: Use PlayStation Portal

PlayStation Portal is not a second television or a second HDMI output. It is a dedicated Remote Play device that lets someone play compatible PS5 games while another person uses the TV connected to the console.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Sony lists an 8-inch 1080p display and up to 60 frames per second, subject to the Remote Play connection and game conditions. Portal is the simplest option when you need a second screen but do not specifically need that screen to be a large TV. See the official PlayStation Portal page and Sony’s setup and compatibility guidance.

  • Portal: Dedicated handheld Remote Play device.
  • Android TV or Google TV: Better when the second room must use a television.
  • PC or Mac: Useful with a monitor or a TV connected by HDMI.
  • Phone or tablet: Portable, but usually more comfortable with a separate controller.

Can two people play different games on two TVs?

No—not with one PS5 alone. An HDMI splitter duplicates the console’s one output, and Remote Play streams that same console session. Neither creates a second game process, independent camera, or separate native render pipeline.

Two controllers can allow multiplayer when a game supports it, but both players remain within the same console session and display output. Share Screen and Share Play features are also not the same as assigning separate HDMI views to two TVs.

  • Two PS5 consoles.
  • Two TVs or displays.
  • Two controllers.
  • Appropriate PlayStation accounts and game access.
  • Any required network connection, subscription, or multiplayer arrangement.

Game licensing and account rules still apply. Sony’s Console Sharing and Offline Play feature designates one PS5 for sharing; it should not be treated as a way to turn one console into two independent consoles.

Do not confuse a splitter with a switch, matrix, or extender

  • HDMI splitter: One source to multiple displays. Use this to mirror one PS5 on two TVs.
  • HDMI switch: Multiple sources to one display. Use this to alternate between consoles or devices on one TV.
  • HDMI matrix: Multiple sources to multiple displays with selectable routing. It can change where signals go, but cannot create two independent PS5 sessions from one console.
  • HDMI extender: Sends a signal over a longer distance, often using Cat 6/Cat 6A cable.

For a distant second TV, options include an active Ultra High Speed HDMI cable, fiber-optic HDMI, or an HDMI-over-Cat extender. The Cable Matters 4K 1×2 HDMI extender documentation is an example of longer-distance 4K distribution hardware, but it should not be treated as a guaranteed HDMI 2.1 or 4K/120-Hz solution.

HDMI splitter troubleshooting

If one or both TVs show “No Signal,” follow this order:

  1. Connect the PS5 directly to one TV and confirm that the console, cable, and TV work together.
  2. Reconnect the splitter and verify that its power adapter is connected.
  3. Try the PS5-to-splitter connection with another suitable HDMI cable.
  4. Test each splitter output individually.
  5. Set both TVs to a common lower mode, such as 1080p/60 Hz.
  6. Temporarily disable HDR and VRR to isolate a handshake problem.
  7. Check the splitter’s EDID and downscaling settings.
  8. Confirm both TVs are using the correct HDMI inputs.
  9. Update the PS5 and TV firmware where updates are available.
  10. Power-cycle the PS5, splitter, and TVs, then reconnect them.
  11. If necessary, start the PS5 in Safe Mode and use the option to change video output.

HDMI devices exchange display-capability information. A mismatch can cause a blank screen, intermittent black screens, resolution fallback, or disappearing HDR and VRR. HDCP compatibility improves the chance of a successful connection but does not guarantee that every combination of TV, cable, splitter, firmware, and receiver will work. Avoid products marketed as tools to bypass HDCP.
