No. Red Steel 2 requires Wii MotionPlus and a Nunchuk, so a standard Wii Remote by itself will not work. You can use either a standard Wii Remote with the separate MotionPlus attachment or a Wii Remote Plus, which has MotionPlus built in.
What controllers does Red Steel 2 require?
Nintendo’s Japanese product page says the game cannot be played without Wii MotionPlus and a Nunchuk, and describes it as MotionPlus-exclusive. Nintendo UK also lists Wii Remote Plus as compatible on its Red Steel 2 page. A plain Wii Remote, without MotionPlus attached, does not meet the game’s stated requirement.
MotionPlus is central to the sword controls, not an optional accuracy upgrade. Nintendo UK describes the accessory as allowing sword movements to correspond closely to the player’s real movements. The game listing also requires a Nunchuk, so include one in your setup.
Choose a compatible setup
| What you have | What you need |
|---|---|
| A standard Wii Remote | Add a Wii MotionPlus attachment and use a Nunchuk. |
| A Wii Remote Plus | Use it with a Nunchuk. MotionPlus is built into the controller. |
Nintendo’s Wii MotionPlus operations manual explains that the separate accessory is used with a Wii Remote. If you use a Wii Remote Plus, do not attach a second MotionPlus: Nintendo’s Wii Remote Plus manual says the built-in feature makes a separate unit unnecessary and that attaching one adds no benefit.
