Yes—but the supported route is a PS4 edition of a Skylanders game, not a PS3 or another console’s copy. PlayStation lists the PS4 version of Skylanders SuperChargers as playable on PS5, with a warning that some PS4 features may be absent. You also need to check the disc-drive requirement and the Portal of Power setup.
Which Skylanders games can you play on PS5?
PS5 backward compatibility applies to supported PS4 games. The US PlayStation Store listing for Skylanders SuperChargers Portal Owner’s Pack identifies it as a PS4 title and says it is playable on PS5. PlayStation’s general PS5 games support page explains that the console plays most PS4 games.

This does not make other platform editions compatible: a PS3, Xbox, or Nintendo copy is not a PS4 game. Check the platform printed on the case or shown in the digital listing before buying. Activision also lists PS4 as a platform for Skylanders Imaginators, but that platform information alone is not confirmation of every game’s PS5 behavior.
What do you need to play a PS4 copy?
| What you have | What to check |
|---|---|
| PS4 disc | You need a PS5 model with a disc drive. PS5 Digital Edition cannot read PS4 game discs, according to PlayStation Support. |
| Digital PS4 game | Check your PlayStation account’s library and the current Store listing for that exact game. |
| Portal of Power | The SuperChargers Store listing says a Portal of Power is required. Confirm the exact portal and game pairing before purchasing; official sources do not specifically confirm which legacy portal models operate on PS5. |
How does the Portal of Power fit into setup?
Skylanders gameplay uses a Portal of Power to read the figures. Activision’s SWAP Force PS4 manual describes connecting the portal to USB and placing figures on it. That is guidance for the PS4 game setup, not an official guarantee that a particular portal model works when connected to a PS5.

Activision’s Portal of Power FAQ discusses compatibility between portal generations and Skylanders games, but does not settle PS5 peripheral compatibility. Treat the console connection as an open check: verify the model and game pairing rather than assuming every older portal will work.

The PlayStation Store warns: “Although this game is playable on PS5, some features available on PS4 may be absent.” It does not specify which features may be missing. The statement applies to the listed PS4 SuperChargers product; it should not be read as confirmation of every Skylanders release or accessory.

What to check before buying
- Confirm the game edition: choose a PS4 copy or PS4 digital listing, not a PS3 or non-PlayStation version.
- Match the format to the console: for a disc, make sure your PS5 has a disc drive; for digital, check the account library or Store listing.
- Verify the portal: check the precise Portal of Power model against the game you intend to play. The official references cited here do not certify specific legacy portal models for PS5.
- Expect possible feature differences: PlayStation flags that some PS4 features may be absent for the listed game, without naming them.
