No documented amiibo support is listed for Super Mario Maker 2. Nintendo’s instructions for using amiibo costumes apply to the original Super Mario Maker on Wii U, not the Nintendo Switch sequel. Nintendo’s Super Mario Maker 2 page describes the game’s features but does not list amiibo functionality. Nintendo’s reviewed pages do not explicitly say amiibo are unsupported, so this is a documentation-based answer rather than a direct negative statement from Nintendo.
Why the original game’s amiibo feature does not establish support in the sequel
Nintendo Support’s amiibo instructions are specifically for Super Mario Maker on Wii U. In that game, players select Make from the title screen, tap a compatible amiibo to the Wii U GamePad’s NFC touchpoint, confirm the unlocked Mystery Mushroom costume, and add it to a course.
That procedure depends on the original game and its Wii U interface. It is not evidence that the same costumes or amiibo interactions are available in Super Mario Maker 2.
What Nintendo lists for Super Mario Maker 2
Nintendo identifies Super Mario Maker 2 as a Nintendo Switch game and highlights course creation, playing courses, Story Mode, course sharing, and multiplayer on its official game page. The page does not list amiibo as a feature. The reviewed official materials do not include an explicit statement that amiibo are unsupported, so the most precise conclusion is that Nintendo does not document amiibo support there.

Does owning an amiibo make it compatible?
No. Nintendo’s amiibo FAQ explains that functionality varies by game and requires a compatible figure, game, and system. A figure that works with one Nintendo game is not automatically supported by another.
Do not buy an amiibo specifically to unlock the Wii U Mystery Mushroom costumes in Super Mario Maker 2: those costume instructions describe the original Wii U game, and the sequel’s official page does not list amiibo functionality.
