How Steam and GOG PC players join the same farm
Use the game’s invite-code option: the host opens the farm and generates a code, then the other player enters it to join. The official multiplayer announcement describes this route as enabling Steam/GOG crossplay. This is compatibility between PC storefronts, not between PC and console.

What to know about playing with mobile users
PC-to-mobile multiplayer has a narrower qualification than standard PC multiplayer. In a January 6, 2026 forum reply, moderator NextXander said PC and mobile devices, including iPad, can connect, but described the feature as mostly for players on the same Wi-Fi network. The current multiplayer reference also labels mobile multiplayer experimental, while the official press page describes mobile as single-player. Taken together, these sources support a limited possibility—not a promise that mobile players can routinely join friends online from anywhere.
The forum moderator’s reply does not provide setup steps or promise a future expansion of crossplay. Check the current multiplayer reference and official mobile guidance for the relevant version before relying on this connection.

What multiplayer requires on consoles
Remote console multiplayer uses the relevant platform’s online service: PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, or Xbox. The multiplayer reference also describes nearby Switch local communications play as not requiring Nintendo Switch Online. Player limits vary by edition and mode: the reference lists up to four players on most consoles and up to eight for Switch 2 online play. Check the current requirements for the exact console edition and service before arranging a session.
Who owns the farm, and when can friends join?
The host owns the farm save and must have the world open for farmhands to access it. If friends can use compatible versions but cannot enter the farm, first confirm that the host has opened that save and that the intended join method matches the platform combination.

No accessory, adapter, router, controller, or extra game copy is identified as a way to override Stardew Valley’s platform compatibility. A controller can support local split-screen play, but it does not connect incompatible PC and console versions or different console families.
