Can you play Warcraft III: Reforged without internet?
Yes, but offline mode is a prepared state rather than a way to bypass installation or account setup. Blizzard’s support documentation lists Warcraft III: Reforged among the Battle.net games with an official offline mode. You must first download the game, apply its updates and complete the initial Battle.net setup while connected.
How to prepare Reforged for offline use
- Install the Battle.net desktop application and Warcraft III: Reforged while you have a working internet connection.
- Allow the game and launcher to finish downloading and updating. An incomplete update can prevent an offline launch.
- Start the game once online and complete the required account and entitlement setup.
- Close the launcher, disconnect from the internet, and open Battle.net again.
- Choose Continue Without Logging In when the launcher offers its offline path, then launch Warcraft III: Reforged.
The offline session is intended for the parts of the game that do not depend on Blizzard’s online services. Blizzard warns that matchmaking and social features are unavailable in this mode. You should therefore expect to lose online matchmaking, friends and other account-connected functions while disconnected. If the launcher has just received an update or the game has been changed, reconnect before assuming that a failed offline start means the installation is broken.

What Reforged offline mode does not mean
- It does not mean the game can be installed for the first time without internet access.
- It does not provide online matchmaking while disconnected.
- It does not make Battle.net an optional part of the original installation and entitlement process.
- It does not guarantee that every future launcher update will work without an occasional online check.
For a computer that is regularly offline, complete a test launch before travelling or disconnecting for a long period. That confirms that the current installation, updates and account state are all usable on the machine you plan to use.
Is the legacy Warcraft III client better for offline or LAN play?
If your priority is traditional offline or local-area-network play, the legacy Warcraft III 1.29 client is the clearest fit in Blizzard’s own guidance. A Blizzard Warcraft III forum post dated September 25, 2026 says that the 1.29 client “continues to support those experiences” for players who prefer LAN or offline functionality.
Keep this client separate from Warcraft III: Reforged in your expectations. The statement about 1.29 establishes offline and LAN support for that legacy client; it does not establish current support on every modern operating system, a current retail purchase path, or compatibility with every handheld. It also does not turn World of Warcraft Classic into an offline game.

Offline versus LAN
- Offline: play by yourself on the installed client without an internet connection.
- LAN: connect players on the same local network. This is local multiplayer, not Battle.net matchmaking, and it may require network configuration on the computers involved.
Choose the legacy client when preserving those classic local-play modes matters more than using the Reforged presentation and Battle.net feature set. Choose Reforged when you specifically need its current distribution and are willing to prepare it online first.
Can World of Warcraft Classic be played without Wi-Fi?
No. World of Warcraft Classic is an online service, not an offline campaign client. Blizzard’s WoW Classic primer says that players with active game time or a subscription receive access through the Battle.net desktop application. Blizzard’s current requirements also list broadband internet.
That requirement applies even if the game files are already installed. Without a connection, the client cannot reach the service needed to enter the game world. An intermittent connection can also interrupt login or gameplay; storing the files locally does not create an offline mode.

What you need for WoW Classic
- A Battle.net installation and a Blizzard account with the appropriate WoW access.
- Active game time or a subscription, as specified in Blizzard’s WoW Classic access guidance.
- Broadband internet meeting the current client requirement.
- A supported operating system and graphics hardware.
Do not confuse WoW Classic with Warcraft III. The former is a persistent online world; the latter is a strategy game with an offline-capable Reforged mode and a legacy 1.29 client described for offline and LAN use.

Can you run Warcraft games on Steam Deck?
Steam Deck can run Windows software through Proton, but Blizzard does not distribute these games as native SteamOS titles in the workflow described here. Valve explains that SteamOS is Linux-based, supports installing other launchers and software in Desktop Mode, and lets you add non-Steam software and select a Proton compatibility tool. That makes Battle.net installation feasible, but it is a compatibility-layer setup rather than an officially native Steam release.
General Battle.net setup path
- Connect the Deck to the internet and switch to Desktop Mode.
- Install the Battle.net Windows launcher using a method that lets it run under Proton. SteamOS’s Desktop Mode is the part Valve identifies for installing other launchers and software.
- Open Steam and use the option to add the launcher as a non-Steam game.
- Open the added launcher’s properties and select a Proton tool through Steam’s compatibility settings. Valve’s Steam Deck guidance describes forcing a Proton tool for software that is not a native Steam title.
- Start Battle.net from Steam, sign in while online, and install the Warcraft game to the storage location you selected.
- Run the game online once, let all updates finish, and verify that it launches before testing offline behavior.
The exact Proton version and launcher behavior can change. A setup that works after one update may need its compatibility setting or shortcut adjusted after another. This is why Deck support should be treated as feasible but maintenance-dependent, not guaranteed.

Offline use on Steam Deck
Valve’s general rule is that an installed game can be played while Steam Deck is offline unless the game itself requires an internet connection. That rule helps Reforged only after its Battle.net installation and offline preparation are complete. It cannot override a game’s own online requirement, so it does not make WoW Classic playable without a connection.
For Reforged, launch Battle.net through the same Steam shortcut you configured, choose its offline continuation path when offered, and start the game. If the game or launcher demands an update or login, reconnect and complete that step before going offline again. For the legacy 1.29 client, offline or LAN behavior is described by Blizzard, but Steam Deck compatibility itself remains dependent on the Proton setup you choose.

- The launcher will not open: return to Desktop Mode, confirm that the Battle.net shortcut is the one being run through Steam, and review the selected Proton tool.
- The game worked, then stopped after an update: reconnect to the internet, allow Battle.net and the game to update, and retest before changing several settings at once.
- Offline launch fails: perform one complete online launch and update cycle. The official offline path assumes the files and updates were obtained first.
- You expect WoW Classic to work on a plane: it will not. Its service connection and broadband requirement remain in force regardless of Steam Deck.
Can you play WoW Classic on a MacBook or other Mac?
Yes, provided the Mac meets Blizzard’s current World of Warcraft requirements. Blizzard lists macOS 10.13 or later, Apple M1-compatible graphics and a minimum of 4 GB of RAM. The same requirements list broadband internet, so Mac support does not imply offline play.

Mac checklist for WoW Classic
- Check that the Mac is running macOS 10.13 or newer.
- Verify that its graphics hardware is compatible with Apple M1 requirements where applicable.
- Ensure at least 4 GB of RAM is available as the stated minimum.
- Install the Battle.net desktop application, then launch WoW Classic from it.
- Maintain broadband internet and active game time or a subscription.
These are the current requirements stated for World of Warcraft. They should not be generalized to every Warcraft release. In particular, they do not prove that an old Warcraft I, Warcraft II or Warcraft III build has a supported native version for a modern Mac.
What about Warcraft I, Warcraft II and Warcraft III on modern macOS?
There is not enough established current support information here to promise a modern macOS installation for Warcraft I, Warcraft II or the legacy Warcraft III client. The confirmed Mac requirements concern the current World of Warcraft client, not every historical strategy-game build.
If a Mac is your only computer, treat a product page, installer or forum claim for an older Warcraft release cautiously unless it identifies the exact client version and macOS support. A Windows compatibility layer may change what is technically possible, but that would be a separate, unsupported path rather than proof of native modern-Mac support.
