You can’t play the supported version of World of Warcraft without an internet connection. Blizzard lists a broadband internet connection as a requirement for both Windows and macOS. If you mean playing while hidden from friends, Battle.net’s Appear Offline setting changes your social status—but you remain connected, and your character still appears online in WoW.
Can you play WoW without an internet connection?
No. Blizzard’s World of Warcraft system requirements call for broadband internet on both Windows and macOS. The supported game is therefore not an offline, single-player mode you can launch without a connection.
The reviewed requirements do not specify a minimum connection speed, data allowance, or how long the game might tolerate a connection drop. You should not treat any particular bandwidth figure or disconnection grace period as an official requirement.
What does Appear Offline do?
Appear Offline is a Battle.net social-status setting, not an offline mode for WoW. Blizzard describes it as showing you as offline to Blizzard friends while you remain connected to Battle.net. WoW gameplay and game-specific features are unaffected, and your character still appears online in-game. Blizzard explained these details in its October 23, 2017 article about Battle.net connection options.
