Yes, some Xbox 360 games may run on a Mac running macOS Sequoia—but through an experimental community fork, not official macOS support in the main Xenia project. The fork’s Xenia-Edge v0.2.1 release offers macOS 15+ builds, but compatibility and stability vary by game and by Mac build. Expect to troubleshoot rather than assume a title will work.
What “Xenia on Mac” actually means
The upstream Xenia FAQ says macOS is not compatible with the main project because its required MoltenVK/Metal support has not been implemented there. Separately, a community fork adds Mac builds and a Metal backend. The Xenia project website describes Xenia-Edge as an experimental community fork pursuing macOS and ARM64 releases; it is not the same as upstream Xenia officially supporting macOS.
The cited Xenia-Mac releases page lists Xenia-Edge v0.2.1 as a pre-release with builds for macOS 15 and later. macOS Sequoia is macOS 15, so it falls within the stated target. A pre-release can change, and its listed target does not guarantee that a particular game will run.
Which Mac build should you try?
| Build | How it runs | What the release notes say |
|---|---|---|
| x86_64 | Runs natively on Intel Macs; on Apple silicon it runs through Rosetta 2. | The maintainer recommends starting here because it is generally more stable and boots more games. Some titles may nevertheless work only on arm64. |
| arm64 | For Apple silicon Macs. | Some games may work on arm64 but fail on x86_64. The notes report severe audio problems in many titles on arm64. |
These are the maintainer’s observations for v0.2.1, not independent compatibility tests or guarantees. Apple explains that Rosetta translates x86_64 instructions, including AVX and AVX2, on Apple silicon; this explains how the translated build can launch, but does not establish how fast or reliably any game will run. See Apple’s Rosetta documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How to try Xenia-Edge on Sequoia
- Check the release page. Open the Xenia-Mac releases and confirm that the build and instructions are still current. The v0.2.1 entry is marked pre-release and targets macOS 15+.
- Choose a build for your Mac. Start with x86_64 if you want to follow the maintainer’s general recommendation. On Apple silicon, that means running it through Rosetta 2. If a game fails or behaves poorly, test the arm64 build as well; the release notes say results can differ by architecture.
- Open the downloaded build. The maintainer says this build is developer-signed but not notarized, so macOS may block its first launch. For this specific build, the documented route is to go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and select Open Anyway for the blocked app. Only consider that step for a build you intentionally obtained from the maintainer’s release page; it is not a reason to override warnings for files from unknown sources.
- Try your game and check the result. A successful launch is not proof that the full game works. Check whether gameplay, graphics, audio, and progression behave acceptably, and compare the other architecture if you encounter a problem.
What can go wrong?
The v0.2.1 release notes describe issues that illustrate why compatibility is conditional. They report Halo progression and cutscene problems, Halo: Combat Evolved rendering issues, and rendering problems in Halo: Reach and Grand Theft Auto IV. The notes also report severe audio problems in many titles on arm64. These are reports attached to that release, not a claim that every copy of those games—or every Mac—will show the same behavior.
- The game does not boot: try the other architecture, since the release notes say some titles behave differently between x86_64 and arm64.
- It boots but has visual or audio faults: check the release notes for the title and build, and judge whether the problem makes play impractical.
- It launches but fails later: test more than the opening screen; reported progression and cutscene issues show that a boot alone is not a reliable compatibility verdict.
There is no compatibility percentage or performance benchmark established here, so it would be misleading to promise that a particular share of the Xbox 360 library is playable.

Do you need Xbox 360 system files or a special controller?
The upstream Xenia quickstart says Xenia does not need Xbox 360 system files. That statement describes upstream Xenia; do not treat the quickstart as a complete requirements guide for the separate Mac fork.
The upstream FAQ says Xenia supports XInput controllers by default, including Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers. An Xbox-compatible XInput controller is a reasonable option to try, but that upstream statement does not verify every controller with Xenia-Edge on Mac. The FAQ also says Xenia does not support Kinect, uDraw GameTablet, or microphones.
