Yes. Sign in to the new Steam Deck with the Steam account that owns your games, then install them from your Library. You do not need to buy those games again for another Deck. However, library access does not guarantee that every game works well on Deck or that its saves transfer automatically.
How to access your games on a new Steam Deck
- Connect the new Deck to Wi-Fi during setup.
- Sign in to the Steam account where the games were purchased or their activation codes were redeemed.
- Open Library, choose a game, and select Install. The game will download to the new Deck unless you use an eligible local transfer.
Steam purchases and activated codes are tied to the account, not to a particular Deck. Steam Support says games can only be played from the account where they were originally purchased or activated: Steam account and game ownership guidance. If you cannot access that account, recover it rather than creating a new one; a different account will not include the old purchases.
Check whether each game works well on Deck
Seeing a game in your Library answers the ownership question, not the compatibility question. Steam assigns each title one of four Deck compatibility labels:
- Verified: Steam says it works great on Deck by default.
- Playable: It works, but may require some user configuration.
- Unsupported: Steam currently does not consider it playable on Deck.
- Unknown: Steam has not tested it.
Check a game’s current store page for details about requirements it does not meet, and use Steam’s Deck compatibility information to review how your Library fares. Statuses can change. A Playable title may need adjustments to controls, launchers, or other settings; Steam also documents compatibility settings and Proton troubleshooting.

Will your saves and settings transfer?
Not necessarily. Steam Cloud is game-specific, and developers decide which user files a game uploads. A Cloud indicator on a game’s Store page is useful, but does not promise that every save or setting—or every cross-platform case—is covered. See Steam Cloud’s explanation of game data and syncing.
Before you stop using or wipe the old Deck, bring it online and confirm the game has finished syncing. Steam warns that offline play delays synchronization; a failed sync can create conflicts, and launching anyway may put progress at risk. If a save does not appear on the new Deck, check the old device and the game’s own save handling before deleting local data. Games without Steam Cloud may need a separate, game-specific transfer; Steam notes that developers may be able to help locate or move those files.

Can you avoid downloading every game again?
Internet installation from the new Deck’s Library is the straightforward option. If both devices are available on the same local network, Steam’s Local Network Game Transfers feature can copy game installation and update files from another eligible Steam client instead.
For a transfer to be available, both clients must be online, able to see each other on the LAN, and configured to allow transfers. The sending client must be idle, and its game files must be current and publicly released. Steam explains the requirements and settings on its Local Network Game Transfers support page.

This copies game files, not personal game data: local saves and configuration files are excluded, as are Workshop, Steam Cloud, and shader files. LAN transfer can reduce downloads for game content, but it is not a save-migration method.
Steam Backup as another option
Steam’s Backup feature may suit compatible games, but Steam cautions that titles using third-party installers or downloaders may not work with it. Moving or restoring installed files does not replace signing in to the account that owns the games. Saves outside Steam Cloud may also need separate handling. See Steam’s Backup and Restore guidance.

Do you need a microSD card?
No. A microSD card is optional storage expansion, not a requirement for accessing your Library. If you need more room, Steam supports UHS-I cards rated class 3 or better; the Deck must format the card. UHS-II and UHS-III cards may work, but their higher transfer speeds are not supported.
