What is different about the Switch 2 edition?
Vibrant Visuals is the default
Mojang says the native Switch 2 version will have Vibrant Visuals enabled by default. The update brings enhanced lighting and shadows, and Mojang describes it as Minecraft’s biggest visual graphics update to date. Some situations and content are excluded: Vibrant Visuals is unavailable during split-screen play and with certain Marketplace worlds and content.
The Super Mario Mash-Up pack is being updated
Mojang says the Super Mario Mash-Up pack will receive an update for the new release. The announcement does not provide further details about what that update includes.

What if you already own Minecraft on Nintendo Switch?
Mojang’s August 5, 2026 announcement says existing Nintendo Switch owners will have a digital upgrade path to the Switch 2 version. It does not specify the price, eligibility terms, or other conditions. Do not assume the upgrade is free; check Mojang’s or Nintendo’s regional information for the terms that apply to your account.
