Yes—on PS3 and PS Vita, Sony says you can continue downloading games, add-ons and DLC you already purchased after the relevant PlayStation Store closes. The promise is for “the foreseeable future,” not forever: Sony has not published a final redownload date.
You will not be able to buy new PS3 or PS Vita games, DLC or other Store content after closure in your market. The timing varies: selected PS3 markets begin closing in 2026, while Sony’s broader schedule puts the PS3 and PS Vita Store shutdown in July 2027 for other countries.

What changes when the PS3 and PS Vita Stores close
The closure separates two things that are often treated as one: purchasing and downloading. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s July 1, 2026 announcement says new purchases stop after a market’s closing date, but previously purchased content remains downloadable for the foreseeable future. Sony’s current support notice repeats that you can keep playing content you own and download content purchased previously.

| Additional Latin American and Middle Eastern markets | Further PS3 closures are scheduled later in 2026 | Previously purchased PS3 content remains downloadable for the foreseeable future |
| All other countries in Sony’s broad schedule | PS3 and PS Vita Stores scheduled to close in July 2027 | Previously purchased PS3 and PS Vita content remains downloadable for the foreseeable future |
A closure date applies to the account’s market, not to every player worldwide on the same day. Check the notice that applies to your country before assuming you have until July 2027.

What you can redownload on each system
| System | Previously purchased games and add-ons | New purchases after closure | Where to retrieve content |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS3 | Downloadable for the foreseeable future | Unavailable after the regional Store closure | The console’s Download List or equivalent purchase library |
| PS Vita | Downloadable for the foreseeable future | Unavailable after the regional Store closure | The console’s Download List or library |
| PSP | Previously purchased PSP content remains downloadable | Search and in-game purchases already ended on July 6, 2021 | The PSP’s Download List |
The PSP is governed by a separate support rule. Sony says PSP searches and in-game purchases ended on July 6, 2021, but owners can still download content they bought before then from the Download List. Do not apply the PS3 and Vita July 2027 schedule to PSP purchasing.
Will previously purchased DLC still work?
Yes, previously purchased DLC falls under Sony’s statement about previously purchased content. If an add-on is tied to the account that bought it, Sony’s notice supports downloading it again after the Store closes for the foreseeable future.
DLC bought before closure
Keep the purchase on the original account and use the console’s download list or library to retrieve it. This covers add-on content already acquired, including DLC that was deleted from the console and needs to be installed again.

Before the relevant closure, Sony says DLC can still be purchased through in-game stores, but payment must use funds already added to the PlayStation wallet. Credit cards, debit cards and PayPal cannot be used directly at PS3 or PS Vita Store checkout. Add wallet funds before the deadline if you intend to make one of those final purchases.

DLC you have not bought yet
After closure, Sony’s wording supports redownloading earlier purchases, not making new ones. A DLC page appearing in a game does not create an exception to the Store shutdown, so do not plan on buying an unowned add-on after your market closes.
How to redownload a game or DLC
The exact screen layout can differ between PS3, PS Vita and PSP, but the process relies on the same account entitlement.
- Sign in to the purchasing account. Use the PlayStation account that originally bought the game, add-on or other content. A different account will not display that purchase as its own entitlement.
- Keep the legacy console usable. Make sure the PS3, PS Vita or PSP can start, connect as required by its software and write to its internal or removable storage. A hard drive or memory card can hold files, but it does not create a purchase entitlement.
- Open the Download List or library. Use the system’s list of previously acquired content rather than searching the closed Store for a new purchase. Locate the game, add-on or DLC you need.
- Start the download and installation. Select the item and allow the console to finish downloading and installing it. Large games and patches may require free storage space.
- Repeat for each add-on. A base game and its DLC can appear as separate entries. Download the game first when the add-on requires it, then install each owned add-on shown for the account.
- Keep the installed copy available. Once content is working, avoid deleting it merely to save space unless you have confirmed that the account’s Download List still exposes the item.
The important distinction is that the Download List retrieves an existing entitlement; it does not recover content bought by another account, convert a physical disc into a digital license or guarantee access to a game whose online service has ended.
Does “for the foreseeable future” mean forever?
No. Sony has not announced a fixed date when PS3 or PS Vita redownloads will stop, but “for the foreseeable future” is an open-ended commitment rather than a permanent guarantee. The support notice does not promise that the service will remain available indefinitely.

That uncertainty is why downloading important purchases while the service is operating is sensible. Prioritize games and DLC that would be difficult to replace, especially content you no longer have installed. Keep the console, its storage and the purchasing account usable so a future redownload does not depend on repairing several problems at once.
What happens to PlayStation Plus games?
Sony’s current notice says existing PlayStation Plus subscriptions and previously acquired Plus content remain accessible and downloadable under the same post-closure provision. That means a Plus item you already obtained is treated as previously acquired content for downloading purposes.
The notice does not turn a subscription into perpetual ownership. Access remains subject to the terms of the Plus entitlement and to the service conditions Sony states for the game. Keep the account and subscription relationship associated with the acquisition, and do not assume that an unclaimed title can be added after the Store closes.

A successful download is not the same as a guarantee that every feature will work forever. Sony says you can continue playing content you already own, subject to each game’s existing online features and service availability.

- Offline features: A game’s local or offline modes can remain usable after installation, subject to the game’s own requirements.
- Online features: Multiplayer, leaderboards, cloud functions or other network-dependent modes may rely on servers operated by the game’s publisher or Sony. Store redownload access does not keep those servers online.
- Account checks: Some content may require the purchasing account or an entitlement check. Keep account credentials and access to the account’s sign-in method secure.
In practical terms, preserve both the files and the ability to authenticate the account that owns them. Neither a storage device nor a physical disc restores a missing digital entitlement.
Before your regional closure: a practical checklist
- Identify the applicable date. The first PS3 closures named by Sony begin in Mexico, Honduras and Nicaragua in August 2026; additional Latin American and Middle Eastern markets follow later in 2026, and the broad PS3 and PS Vita schedule for other countries is July 2027.
- Review the Download List. Look for games, season passes and individual add-ons that you may need to reinstall.
- Download priority items. Install irreplaceable games and DLC before the deadline rather than relying only on an indefinite future redownload promise.
- Check storage. Free enough space on the console or its supported storage, and replace failing storage before it prevents installation.
- Confirm the purchasing account. Record which account owns the content and ensure you can still sign in to it.
- Use wallet funds for final in-game-store DLC purchases. On PS3 and PS Vita, Sony says direct credit-card, debit-card and PayPal payment is unavailable at Store checkout; wallet funds are required.
- Do not confuse copies with entitlements. A backup drive can preserve downloaded files, while a physical disc is a separate copy. Neither one grants a different account access to digital DLC.
Common situations and the correct answer
“I deleted a PS3 game. Can I install it again after closure?”
Yes, if the game was previously purchased on the signed-in account. Use the PS3’s Download List or library. Sony says that redownload remains available for the foreseeable future.
“I bought a Vita game years ago but never installed it.”
It is still a previous purchase. Sign in to the purchasing account and retrieve it from the Vita’s download list or library, subject to the open-ended service availability Sony describes.
“Can I buy a new game after my country’s Store closes?”
No. The post-closure allowance is for downloading content already purchased. It does not authorize new PS3 or PS Vita game, add-on or other Store purchases.

“Will a physical game disc redownload my digital DLC?”
No. The disc is a separate copy of the game. Digital DLC remains associated with the account that bought it and must be retrieved as that account’s previous purchase.
“Can I still download PSP purchases?”
Yes. Sony’s separate PSP notice says previously purchased PSP content remains downloadable from the PSP Download List. PSP searches and in-game purchases ended on July 6, 2021.
The decision in one view
| Question | Before your market closes | After your market closes |
|---|---|---|
| Download a game already purchased | Use the console’s Download List or library | Still supported for the foreseeable future |
| Download DLC already purchased | Use the console’s Download List or library | Still supported for the foreseeable future |
| Buy a new PS3 or PS Vita game | Available until the regional closure date | Unavailable |
| Buy new DLC | Available until the regional closure date; in-game-store purchases require wallet funds | Not promised by Sony’s notice |
| Play owned content | Available subject to the game’s existing online features and service availability | Same limitation applies |
The short answer is therefore conditional but clear: closure ends new purchasing, not the immediate ability to retrieve what you already bought. For PS3 and PS Vita, Sony promises previously purchased downloads for the foreseeable future; for PSP, previously purchased downloads remain available under a separate rule. Because no final redownload date has been published, install important content before you need it and preserve the account and hardware required to use it.
