Xbox refund rules depend on what you bought and where
Start by identifying the type of purchase and the seller. Microsoft’s rules for a digital game bought through Xbox are not a blanket refund policy for every Xbox-related purchase. Eligibility may also depend on the specific offer and consumer protections in your country.

Xbox Support’s refund terms say game requests are “typically” issued within 14 days for games without significant play time, and warn that a request does not guarantee a refund. The policy does not define a universal play-time cutoff.
How do I refund an Xbox game?
- Sign in to the Xbox refund flow using the account that made the purchase.
- Find the digital game or app order and select Request a refund.
- Choose a reason, provide any requested details, and submit the request.
Microsoft says processing the request may take up to 72 hours. That is review time, not the time for money to reach your payment method. If the purchase is missing from the request list, or it was made through another seller, contact Microsoft Support or the seller for the correct channel. A request submitted through the right flow can still be denied.

Can I get a refund for Xbox DLC or an add-on?
Not automatically. Microsoft says digital goods, including add-on content and subscriptions, are generally not refundable unless the offer or applicable law makes them eligible. An add-on included in a bundle cannot be returned on its own under the guidance reviewed. Check the purchase’s terms rather than assuming the digital-game process covers it.
How long does an Xbox refund take?
There are two separate stages. Microsoft says reviewing a refund request may take up to 72 hours. If Microsoft issues the refund, it is generally applied to the original payment method within 3–5 business days.
