Yes—you can mod some Xbox One games, but only when that specific game provides a supported mod feature. Fallout 4 is a documented example: its in-game Creations menu lets players browse and install supported content. This does not mean you can freely modify or jailbreak the Xbox One itself, or mod every game on the console.
How Xbox One game mods work
On Xbox One, mod access is determined by the individual game and its developer or publisher. Where a game supports mods, use the feature and instructions provided inside that game. Do not assume that PC mod tools, mod libraries, or installation methods work on Xbox One.

Bethesda announced in 2016 that Fallout 4 players could browse and download mods through the game’s main menu: Bethesda’s Fallout 4 Xbox One mods announcement. That is evidence for Fallout 4, not a general feature available across Xbox One games.
Fallout 4: using the in-game Creations menu
Bethesda’s Fallout 4 Creations announcement lists Xbox One as a supported platform and describes a menu that brings together previously released Creations, Fallout 4 mods, Creation Club items, and new Creations.

- Launch Fallout 4 on Xbox One and open the game’s Creations or mods menu.
- Check that each item is intended for Fallout 4 on your platform, then read its description and any listed requirements before installing.
- Follow the current in-game instructions for installation and load order. After a game update, check the menu and Bethesda’s current guidance before changing your setup.
Some individual mods may require a particular add-on; that is a requirement of that mod, not a general prerequisite for using an in-game mod menu. For example, Windows Central reported on May 29, 2026, that a specific Fallout 4 mod arriving on Xbox required the Far Harbor add-on: the report on that specific mod. Always check the requirements shown for the mod you want.
Storage, updates, and troubleshooting
Mod storage limits and compatibility rules are game- and version-specific. Older figures in a Bethesda Support result about Fallout 4 storage should not be treated as current Xbox One limits: Bethesda later announced a Fallout 4 console storage increase. The exact current numeric limit for every Xbox One game is not established by the available official guidance. Bethesda’s current update context is in its Fallout 4 console Creations storage and load-order notice, which advises console players to save their load order ahead of the update.

If Fallout 4 fails to load after activating many mods, Bethesda Support’s indexed troubleshooting guidance mentions clearing the game’s reserved space. This can remove local mod data, so consult the current official instructions before doing it; do not treat clearing reserved space as a routine first step. Using an in-game mod menu changes supported content within a game. It is different from modifying or jailbreaking the Xbox One’s operating system. The Xbox Support page titled “Enable PC game mods” concerns PC games and is not instructions for modding an Xbox One console: Xbox Support: Enable PC game mods.
