You can’t remove a child member from a PlayStation family on PS5. PlayStation states that “child members cannot be removed from your family”; the PS5 removal option is for adult family members. If you want fewer restrictions, change the child’s parental-control, playtime, or privacy settings instead.
Why you can’t remove a child account
PlayStation’s family-account instructions expressly say child members cannot be removed from a family. The PS5 option called Remove from Your Family applies to adult members, not children. The reviewed PlayStation guidance does not describe a child-removal exception or a separate support-assisted removal process.
Change the child’s restrictions on PS5
A family manager or appointed parent or guardian can adjust a child’s settings without removing the account. On PS5, go to Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management, select the child, then choose the setting you want to change.
Parental controls and playtime
Use the child’s settings to adjust parental controls and playtime limits. Playtime can also be managed online through Account Management under Family Management, or in the PlayStation Family app. PlayStation’s PS5 parental-controls guidance notes that account-based controls apply across devices.

Privacy settings
A family manager or parent or guardian can manage the child’s privacy settings. Some privacy settings remain controlled by the family manager; see PlayStation’s privacy-settings instructions.
Remove an adult family member instead
If the person is an adult member, the family manager can remove them on PS5:

- Sign in as the family manager.
- Open Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management.
- Select the adult family member.
- Select Remove from Your Family.
Removing an adult who is a parent or guardian also ends that person’s ability to set parental controls.
What if the child account is eligible to become an adult account?
When an account becomes eligible to upgrade, its account holder can follow the sign-in notification or sign in to Account Management and choose Upgrade Your Account. This is optional and changes the account’s status; it is not a method for removing the account from the family. PlayStation says an upgraded account cannot be reverted to a child account. See PlayStation’s account-upgrade guidance before choosing, since the change is irreversible.
