Not directly. A YouTube channel playlist cannot itself become a live stream in YouTube Studio. You still need an encoder or equivalent service to play the prerecorded meditation videos and send a live feed to YouTube. OBS is one option, not a requirement: you can use local streaming software, a cloud service such as StreamNeo, or a standalone hardware encoder.
What “playlist” means here
A regular YouTube playlist organizes videos on your channel for viewers to play on demand. It is not an input YouTube Live can select and broadcast continuously. Something must play or assemble the video and transmit the resulting feed.
YouTube explains that “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” The encoder connects to YouTube using the Live server URL and stream key. OBS is one software encoder among several options listed by YouTube. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes the workflow.
There is also a technical meaning of “playlist” in HLS streaming: an encoder’s media playlist orders the segments that make up a live feed. That is unrelated to the ordinary playlist feature on a YouTube channel. YouTube’s HLS documentation is aimed at encoder vendors, not at broadcasting a channel playlist directly.

YouTube says its verified encoders are not made by YouTube and recommends evaluating which option makes sense for your use. Features and terms can change, so confirm the current details with the provider.
Set up a prerecorded meditation livestream
- Prepare the media. Decide which videos should play and in what order. Confirm you have the rights to every video, music track, and ambient recording in the stream. A playlist does not grant permission to rebroadcast its contents.
- Enable live streaming on your channel. YouTube says first-time live-streaming enablement may take up to 24 hours. Once enabled, a stream can go live instantly. Check YouTube’s current encoder instructions for the account workflow.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. In the encoder workflow, YouTube provides a Live server URL and stream key for the stream. Enter those details in OBS, compatible hardware, or your cloud service as directed by that provider.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it as secret: it identifies the stream to YouTube. Do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to send video to your channel.
- Start the feed from your chosen encoder. Check YouTube Studio to confirm that the incoming feed appears, then start the live broadcast according to the encoder and YouTube workflow.
- Check the stream after launch. Confirm that the intended video and audio are playing and that the feed remains active. For a long-running schedule, decide in advance how playback will be restored if the encoder, connection, or service stops.

Keep meditation content and channel use in mind
- Rights matter for every element. Make sure you are authorized to use all visuals, music, chants, and environmental recordings in a livestream. The rights status of any particular library or track depends on its license; do not assume that a recording is free to rebroadcast.
- A live loop is still a live broadcast. Using prerecorded material does not remove the need for an encoder or make the stream a normal channel playlist.
- Keep the workflow appropriate to the schedule. A local encoder gives you direct control but depends on your computer and connection; cloud streaming or dedicated hardware can reduce that local dependency, with different costs and setup requirements.
Troubleshooting the basic setup
YouTube Studio does not show an incoming feed
Check that the encoder is using the server URL and stream key for the stream you selected in YouTube Studio, and that the encoder has actually started sending. If live streaming was only just enabled on the channel, allow for YouTube’s stated first-time enablement period of up to 24 hours.
The stream stops when the computer is shut down
That is expected with a local software encoder: the computer is playing and sending the feed. Keep it running for the full broadcast, or move playback and transmission to a cloud service or standalone encoder.

The video plays but the stream is not what you intended
Check the media queue or playlist configured in the encoder or service. A YouTube channel playlist is not automatically the encoder’s playback queue, and an HLS media playlist is a separate technical format.
You are unsure whether a track can be used
Check the license and permissions for that exact recording before streaming it. If you cannot establish the rights, do not include it in the broadcast.
