Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallAs of October 7, 2026, you cannot buy a new game through the PSP’s own PlayStation Store. Redownloading a game you previously purchased is a separate matter: Sony says PSP owners can still use the device’s Download List for previously purchased content. A possible PS3 or PS Vita store route depends on whether a title is still listed in your region, and those stores now have announced closure dates.
Can you buy PSP games digitally today?
Not from the PSP storefront itself. Sony says the PSP Store closed in 2016; the remaining ability to search for content or make in-game purchases ended on July 6, 2021. That means a PSP cannot be used to make a new digital game purchase there today. Sony’s PSP Store notice distinguishes this from downloading content already bought.
Sony’s April 19, 2021 announcement originally said, “PSP commerce functionality will retire on July 2, 2021 as planned.” Its later support notice gives July 6, 2021 as the date PSP searches and in-game purchases ended. The two dates refer to the announcement and the stated end of those remaining features, respectively. Sony’s 2021 PlayStation Blog post
What still works for digital PSP games?
Redownloading a game you already bought
Sony says previously purchased PSP content can still be downloaded from the PSP’s Download List. This is for existing purchases, not a way to acquire a new license. To check, open the Download List on the PSP and look for the title associated with your account. A listing there is the relevant starting point; older transfer instructions do not guarantee that every title or transfer method will work on current services. Sony’s PSP Store notice

Buying from a PS3 or PS Vita store
In 2021, Sony said PSP content that remained available on the PS3 or PS Vita stores could still be purchased and played there. That was a conditional statement about titles still listed in those stores, not a promise that every PSP game remains available. Catalogues can differ by country or region, so check the store associated with your account rather than assuming a title is offered everywhere. Sony’s PSP Store notice
The status of these legacy storefronts is also changing. In a July 1, 2026 announcement, Sony scheduled PS3 Store closures in selected markets during 2026 and PS3 and PS Vita store closures in all other countries in July 2027. Sony said previously purchased PS3 and PS Vita content would remain downloadable for the foreseeable future after closure, without specifying a fixed period. This schedule concerns PS3 and PS Vita; it does not guarantee that every PSP title can be transferred to a PSP or set a fixed end date for PSP downloads. Sony’s July 2026 store update

Storage and older transfer directions
Sony’s PSP manuals describe saving downloaded items to Memory Stick media, and say PSP-N1000 series systems can select system storage. Check your model and compatible storage before relying on a particular destination. The manuals also document older download and copy procedures through PSP or PS3; those instructions are not evidence that every historical workflow still works today. | Option | What it lets you do | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Previously purchased digital content | Redownload eligible purchases from the PSP Download List, according to Sony. | Confirm the game is in the account’s Download List; storage and activation may matter. |
| PS3 or PS Vita store listing | Potentially buy a PSP title if it remains listed in your region; Sony described this route in 2021. | Check the account’s regional catalogue and the announced store-closure schedule. Availability is not guaranteed for a particular game. |
| Physical UMD | Play a used disc on a PSP model equipped with a UMD drive. | PSP Go has no UMD drive. Check the console model, disc condition, and listing details; stock and prices vary. |
If you already own the digital license, the Download List is the direct route to check. If you do not, a UMD is the straightforward alternative for a UMD-equipped PSP; a store listing on PS3 or PS Vita is only an option when that specific title is actually available to your account.
