Yes. Rotating League of Legends modes can still award progress, but there is no single “rotating-mode reward” rule. Matchmade games can advance the Battle Pass, Champion Mastery points are available in rotating queues (including Arena), and some modes add their own progression. Arena, for example, has a separate Fame track. Missions, grades, queue availability and event rewards can change with patches, so treat the current client objectives as the final authority.
The useful way to think about rewards is as three separate systems: Battle Pass progress, Champion Mastery, and mode-specific or event progression. A game may qualify for one, two or all three.

What rewards can a rotating mode give?
League’s rotating queues are temporary matchmade modes, not one permanent ruleset. Whether a game pays out depends on the system being checked and on the exact queue that is live. The following distinctions answer most reward questions without assuming that every mission treats every mode identically.

So “does this mode give rewards?” needs a second question: which rewards? A rotating game can advance general pass experience while failing to satisfy a particular champion, win-condition or grade-based mission.

Do rotating modes count toward the Battle Pass?
Usually, yes when the queue is a matchmade mode covered by the pass rules. Riot describes Battle Passes as the main way to track and earn rewards, with passive play experience and missions contributing to progress. Every player has access to a free pass with rewards; a paid track, when offered for a season or event, does not change the underlying question of whether a match is eligible for progress.
Riot Support states that players earn one point for every minute played in any matchmade mode, explicitly including Co-op VS AI and ARAM. That wording is the strongest general rule for rotating queues: if the temporary mode is operating as a matchmade queue, time in the completed match can advance the pass.
Why a pass mission can still fail
General time-based progress and mission credit are separate checks. A mission might require a specific map, queue, champion class, objective, victory or number of games. A rotating queue can therefore add the pass’s ordinary play points while not satisfying that narrower mission. Read the mission’s wording in the in-client Objectives panel rather than inferring eligibility from the mode’s name.

Progress is normally recorded after the match is processed. Leaving early, disconnecting, or closing the client before the result is recorded can delay or prevent credit. If the pass total does not change immediately, return to the post-game screen, let the client synchronize, and check the Objectives panel again before assuming the queue is excluded.

Does Arena give Champion Mastery points?
Yes. Riot Support says Mastery Points can be earned in all matchmaking queues listed there: normal Summoner’s Rift (Quickplay and Draft), ranked queues, ARAM, and all rotating game modes, including Arena.
That does not mean every Arena result advances every mastery reward. Seasonal mastery milestones are limited to modes that provide grades. If a temporary mode does not issue the grade used by a particular milestone, you may still receive ordinary Mastery Points without receiving that grade-dependent milestone credit.
How to interpret a missing mastery milestone
- Check whether the queue awarded a post-game grade, rather than relying only on the fact that it was matchmade.
- Distinguish the champion’s Mastery Point total from a seasonal milestone counter; they are related but not interchangeable.
- Allow the result to finish processing, then review the champion’s mastery page and the season milestone display.
- Read the current patch or event notes if the mode was newly introduced or recently changed.
What is Arena Fame?
Arena has its own progression called Fame. Riot’s Arena documentation lists several awards, measured in Fame, rather than Battle Pass points or Champion Mastery. The figures below are the documented Arena values from 2025 and should be treated as mode-specific rules for the version that used them.

The placement wording matters. The 150-Fame award is for a first win with a champion when the team finishes in the top four; it is not a flat award for any first Arena game. The 200-Fame award is tied to a first-place finish with that champion. These awards sit alongside, rather than replace, any Battle Pass or Mastery progress for which the queue qualifies.

Does playing with friends always multiply every reward?
Riot documented the friend benefit as a 20% Arena Fame bonus. The statement applies to Fame; do not assume it multiplies Battle Pass points, Mastery Points or unrelated event missions unless the current client explicitly says so.
Do ARAM and ARAM: Mayhem count for missions?
Regular ARAM is explicitly included in Riot Support’s matchmade Battle Pass example, so time in an eligible ARAM game can generate the pass’s ordinary play points. ARAM is also listed among the queues that can award Champion Mastery Points.
ARAM: Mayhem is a separate, temporary variant. Its mission treatment depends on the event and patch that made the queue available. Do not transfer every regular-ARAM assumption to Mayhem automatically: inspect the mission text and the queue’s Objectives entry while it is live. If the client lists the mode as eligible for a mission, its result should be credited after the match completes; if it does not, the mode may still provide general matchmade pass progress or other mode rewards.
Why the distinction matters
Players often see a pass total increase and conclude that every mission should advance. The systems can diverge. Matchmade time-based points, a champion-specific mission, a grade-based mastery milestone and a temporary mode objective can all evaluate the same game differently.

How to check a rotating mode before you play
Use this short check whenever a new queue appears or a patch changes the event.
- Open the client’s Objectives or Battle Pass panel. Read the current pass description and each mission’s conditions. Look for explicit queue, map, victory, champion or objective restrictions.
- Open the mode’s own page. Temporary queues often show a separate event, milestone or Fame description. Record whether the reward is pass progress, mastery, Fame or a different currency.
- Confirm that the queue is matchmade. Riot’s one-point-per-minute statement applies to matchmade modes. A custom lobby, practice activity or non-matchmade format should not be assumed to qualify.
- Check for grades. If your goal is a seasonal mastery milestone, verify that the mode produces the required post-game grade, not merely Mastery Points.
- Finish a test game and inspect the result. After the post-game screen, compare the pass, mission, mastery and mode-specific counters separately.
- Read the patch notes for the queue’s start and end dates. A mode can be eligible today and unavailable after the next patch window.
Why rotating-mode rewards change
Rotating modes are shipped as defined queues for defined periods. Riot’s patch notes described ARAM: Mayhem as live through patch 25.24 in the 25.21 update. Arena also received an events and map update for 2026. Those examples show why an old answer can become wrong without the game itself changing its general reward philosophy: the queue, mission set or event track may simply have ended or been revised.
Patch numbers are not a permanent eligibility guarantee. A queue can return with different missions, a changed Fame rule, a new map or a different relationship to seasonal milestones. The current client’s Objectives panel and the latest notes for the live patch take precedence over screenshots or guides from an earlier run.
Troubleshooting: no reward appeared
The Battle Pass did not move
- Confirm the game was a completed matchmade match, not a custom or practice session.
- Wait for the post-game results to load and refresh the pass panel.
- Check whether the pass uses a mission-specific condition instead of ordinary time-based points.
- Verify that the queue was still within its advertised event window.
A mission stayed at zero
- Re-read the mission for map, champion, win, objective and queue restrictions.
- Separate general pass points from that mission’s counter; they do not prove the same eligibility.
- Look for an event-specific Objectives page that may replace or supplement the normal pass display.
Mastery Points appeared but a milestone did not
Check for a grade requirement. Riot’s mastery guidance allows points in rotating modes, while seasonal milestones are restricted to modes that provide grades. The two outcomes can therefore differ without either system malfunctioning.

Arena Fame seems incorrect
Review the individual Fame conditions: rounds, first play, first top-four win, first place, Bravery and Crowd Favorite are distinct triggers. The friend benefit is documented as a 20% Fame bonus, not a blanket bonus to all League rewards. If the result still looks wrong after the match has synchronized, consult the current Arena event information for that patch.
Practical examples
You play three games of a live rotating queue
If the queue is matchmade, those games can contribute ordinary Battle Pass play progress under the per-minute rule. A mission requiring a specific objective may still remain unchanged, so check its exact text.
You play Arena for champion mastery
Arena is included in Riot’s list of rotating modes that can award Mastery Points. Whether the game also advances a grade-based seasonal milestone depends on whether that Arena version issues the necessary grade.
You want the fastest Arena-specific progression
Track Fame separately from the pass. First-play, first top-four win and first-place conditions are champion-specific, while rounds and the documented social or behavior conditions are different triggers. Choose the objective you are actually pursuing instead of assuming a victory awards every Fame category.
Bottom line for this season
Rotating modes remain a valid way to earn League rewards, but eligibility is layered. Matchmade play can advance the Battle Pass; ARAM is explicitly covered, and rotating queues can be covered when they are live and matchmade. Champion Mastery Points are available in rotating modes including Arena, while grade-based seasonal milestones have an additional requirement. Arena can also award its own Fame, with rules that are separate from the pass and mastery systems.
Before investing time, open the live Objectives panel, confirm the queue’s conditions, and check the current patch notes. That two-minute check is the reliable way to tell whether today’s rotating mode advances the particular reward you want.
