You cannot newly claim Watch Dogs 2 free on PC from the old Ubisoft promotion. That giveaway ran from July 12 through July 15, 2020. If you claimed it then, check the same Ubisoft account’s current PC library; if you did not, the expired event cannot be redeemed now.
No—not based on the promotion described in the old guides. The claim that you can get Watch Dogs 2 free on PC “right now” refers to a Ubisoft Forward giveaway that ran from July 12 through July 15, 2020. Its final reported deadline was the end of July 15, 2020, so the giveaway has expired.
The promotion granted a PC copy to a Ubisoft account. It was not a permanent free-to-play release, a current console giveaway, or an offer that can still be redeemed by watching one minute of a video.
What the original Watch Dogs 2 giveaway offered
Ubisoft’s 2020 promotion was connected to the Ubisoft Forward livestream. The original instructions told users to:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Visit Ubisoft’s website.
- Log in to an existing Ubisoft account or create one.
- Watch at least one minute of the Ubisoft Forward broadcast.
- Receive Watch Dogs 2 in the account’s PC game library.
Contemporary coverage described the game as being accessed through Ubisoft’s then-current PC launcher, called Uplay at the time. That name is historical: it should not be treated as a current interface instruction. The original one-minute viewing requirement was also specific to the July 2020 event, not an ongoing redemption method. Tom’s Guide’s contemporaneous instructions document the original claim process.

Why some articles say the offer lasted only 45 minutes
The “45 minutes” claim describes the original broadcast-window instructions. Early reports said viewers had to watch during a limited portion of Ubisoft Forward, with one report describing a 45-minute opportunity.
That was not the final arrangement. Ubisoft experienced account-login problems during the event, and some viewers could not successfully sign in or complete the livestream claim. Ubisoft subsequently made the rewards available to people who registered or logged in through its website, even if they had been unable to watch or claim normally. The revised access period ran through July 15, 2020. GameSpot’s report on the final deadline and Ubisoft’s workaround covers that change.
In other words:
| Claim found in old coverage | What it actually means |
|---|---|
| “Watch one minute and get the game.” | The original July 12, 2020 promotion instructions. |
| “You have only 45 minutes.” | The original broadcast-window limitation, before Ubisoft changed the process. |
| “Log in or register to claim it through July 15.” | The later arrangement introduced after login failures. |
| “It will appear immediately.” | Not necessarily: some users were told to allow a few days for the entitlement to appear. |
Can you still redeem the 2020 free copy?
No. The documented redemption window ended in July 2020. Creating a Ubisoft account today does not recreate that expired giveaway, and watching an archived Ubisoft Forward video does not satisfy a current promotion.

If you believe you claimed the game during the event, the useful thing to check is the Ubisoft account that was used in 2020:
- Sign in through Ubisoft’s current account and PC-library software rather than following an old Uplay tutorial.
- Check the account’s owned-games library for Watch Dogs 2.
- Confirm that you are using the same Ubisoft account used for the giveaway; a different email address will not show the old entitlement.
- If you registered during the event but the game did not appear immediately, allow for the delayed entitlement described in contemporaneous coverage. That historical delay does not mean a new claim can be made now.
The old reports do not provide a current command-line redemption method—there was no command syntax for this offer. It was an account-based web and launcher entitlement.
Was the giveaway for PC, PlayStation, or Xbox?
The giveaway was specifically for the PC version of Watch Dogs 2. It was not a general free entitlement for PlayStation or Xbox. The game was released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, but the 2020 Ubisoft Forward offer covered the PC copy only. GameSpot lists the game’s first release as November 15, 2016.

Therefore, finding the game in an old Ubisoft PC account would not automatically provide a console license. Console ownership and PC-library entitlements are separate.

Contemporary coverage listed these requirements:
| Component | Historical requirement reported in 2020 coverage |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 7 or later |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-2400S or AMD FX-6120 |
| Memory | 6 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870 |
| Storage | 50 GB |
These are 2016-era specifications reproduced from historical reporting, not a verified current compatibility guarantee. They should not be used as an official modern system-requirements page. Driver support, Windows versions, launcher behavior, and performance can differ on current hardware. The historical figures are included to explain the old offer, not to promise that every present-day PC will run the game properly. The original Tom’s Guide report lists those specifications.
How to avoid fake “free Watch Dogs 2” offers
Because the expired giveaway is still described in present tense by search results and reposted guides, use these checks before entering account details or downloading anything:

- Enjoy expansive cinematic sound. Big 50 mm audio drivers deliver an incredible sound experience
- Hear Enemies From All Sides. DTS Headphone:X 2.0 surround sound(1) lets you hear enemies sneaking behind you, special ability cues, and immersive environments. It’s positional clarity that can make the difference between victory and defeat. Experience three-dimensional audio that goes beyond 7.1 channels to make you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action. (1) DTS Headphone:X 2.0 requires Logitech G HUB Software.
- Be Heard Loud and Clear. The big 6 mm boom mic makes sure you’re heard by gaming partners and mutes when flipped up.
- Use One Headset For Most Game Platforms. Your headphones work with your PC or Mac via USB DAC or 3.5 mm cable, mobile devices with 3.5 mm cable or with gaming consoles including PlayStationⓇ 5 and PlayStationⓇ 4 (USB wireless stereo sound only), Nintendo Switch (wireless stereo sound when docked)
- Game for Hours in Comfort. Everything about these headphones is about comfort: The deluxe lightweight leatherette ear cups and headband are made to keep pressure off your ears. Ear cups rotate up to 90 degrees for convenience.
- Check the date. A page discussing July 12–15, 2020 is historical, even if its headline says “this weekend.”
- Do not expect an archived video to grant ownership. The one-minute requirement belonged to the original event.
- Use official account and store pages directly. Avoid links that ask for your Ubisoft password on an unrelated domain.
- Do not install a “claim tool.” The original promotion used account registration or login; it did not require a command-line utility or an unofficial executable.
- Be skeptical of console claims. The documented free offer was for PC only.
- Check the account library before paying a reseller. If you claimed the game in 2020, the entitlement should be associated with that Ubisoft account rather than with a transferable key.
What is the answer today?
Watch Dogs 2 was free on PC during a time-limited Ubisoft Forward promotion in July 2020. That promotion is over. The accurate current takeaway is not “watch one minute and get it now,” but rather:
- You can still play it if the 2020 giveaway was successfully attached to your Ubisoft account.
- You cannot newly claim that expired giveaway today.
- The 45-minute limit and one-minute viewing instructions are historical and were partly superseded during the event.
- The offer did not grant a general PlayStation or Xbox copy.
For a new purchase or any separate current discount, check Ubisoft’s current official store listing in your region. The historical sources establish that the 2020 giveaway ended, but they do not establish a current price, sale, subscription inclusion, or replacement promotion.

No. The giveaway covered the PC version. It did not grant a general PlayStation 4 or Xbox One entitlement.
How do I check whether I claimed the game in 2020?

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe Bottom Line
Bottom line: The free Watch Dogs 2 PC giveaway ended on July 15, 2020. Only users who claimed it during that promotion may still find it in their Ubisoft library; watching one minute of an old video or creating an account now will not redeem it.
