Usually, yes. Delisting normally removes a game’s new-sale page from the PlayStation Store; it does not automatically revoke a digital license you already purchased. You can generally keep playing an installed copy, or redownload a previously purchased title from the purchasing account’s Game Library, provided Sony still serves that platform entitlement and the game does not require a service that has ended.
Your result depends on four separate questions: which account owns the license, whether the game is installed or still downloadable, whether your console is activated for offline use, and whether the title’s online servers remain available. A physical disc can preserve local access, but it cannot restore dead servers, missing patches or region-incompatible downloadable content.

What “delisted” means—and what it does not mean
A delisted game is no longer offered for a new purchase in the relevant PlayStation Store. Delisting can happen because of an expired publishing agreement, removed music or other licensed content, a discontinued service, or a platform-store policy change. The commercial listing disappears, but that event is different from revoking every existing customer license.

Removing the store page usually does not erase that transaction. A game can therefore be impossible for a new customer to buy while remaining visible in the original owner’s library.

There are limits. Sony’s support guidance does not promise indefinite redownload availability for every product, and a license can be affected by account problems, console-sharing settings, platform changes or a specific service shutdown. Treat “delisted” as a store-availability status, not as a guarantee that every feature will remain forever.
| Situation | What delisting usually changes | What it usually does not change |
|---|---|---|
| You bought the digital game | New customers can no longer purchase it from the store page. | Your account’s existing transaction and library entitlement. |
| The game is already installed | Store search and new sales may disappear. | Local game files, subject to license checks and system compatibility. |
| You deleted the download | You may no longer find a normal product page. | The library redownload option, if Sony still serves that entitlement. |
| You own a disc | Digital purchase options may vanish. | The disc’s local license path, provided the console can read it. |
| The game used online services | Online modes can be shut down separately. | An offline campaign that does not depend on those services. |
Redownload a digital game you purchased
Use the account that made the original purchase. A different account on the same console may see a padlock even when another household account owns the game.
- Sign in to the purchasing account. Confirm the account’s email or user ID, rather than relying on the console profile name.
- Open your Game Library. On the console, look through Purchased or Your Collection and search for the title. A missing store listing does not by itself prove that the library entitlement is gone.
- Check transaction history. Verify that the purchase appears on the account. This distinguishes a completed purchase from a trial, a temporary promotion or access supplied through a subscription.
- Start the download from the library. If the title is still served for your platform, the console should queue the game even though its public store page is unavailable.
- Restore licenses if the title is locked. On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. On PS4, use Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses. Restart the console and test the game while signed in.
- Check sharing and activation. On PS5, enable Console Sharing and Offline Play for the purchasing account. On PS4, activate the console as that account’s primary PS4. These settings determine whether other local users can use the purchased download and whether the console can validate it offline.
Restoring licenses does not recreate a purchase that never existed, convert a PlayStation Plus entitlement into permanent ownership, or revive an online service. It refreshes the console’s license information for products the account is entitled to use.

Why a delisted game shows a padlock
A padlock is a license, account, sharing or connectivity symptom—not proof that delisting deleted the game. Work through the checks in this order:
- Account mismatch: sign out and back in with the account shown in transaction history. Family members’ profiles do not automatically own one another’s purchases.
- Console not activated: enable PS5 Console Sharing and Offline Play, or set the PS4 as the purchasing account’s primary console.
- License data out of date: run Restore Licenses, then launch the game with the console connected to the internet once.
- Subscription access: determine whether the game came from a PlayStation Plus monthly claim or catalog. Subscription access follows membership and catalog terms; it is not the same as a completed purchase.
- Platform or region mismatch: check that you downloaded the edition associated with the account and console. Disc regions, downloadable content regions and saved-data compatibility can differ.
- Service dependency: if the game requires an authentication server, an online entitlement check or a network-only mode, a valid local license may not be enough.
Set up reliable offline play
PS5: Console Sharing and Offline Play
Sony’s PS5 guide says that, when Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled, users can “Play your games and media even when the console is offline.” The setting applies to one PS5 console at a time for an account.
- Sign in to the account that purchased the game.
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- Select Enable.
- While connected, launch the game once so the console can complete any required license validation and download available updates.
- Disconnect the network and test the campaign. A game that reaches its title screen and saves locally offline is less dependent on a future store visit.
If the account has enabled sharing on another PS5, the new console may not receive the same offline entitlement. Deactivate the previous console through the account-management tools when necessary, then enable sharing on the console you actually use. Sony’s current guide limits this activation to one PS5 at a time.

PS4: primary-console activation
PS4 uses primary-console activation for the equivalent sharing and offline entitlement. On the purchasing account, open Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PS4 and choose Activate. After the game has been validated online, other users on that primary PS4 can generally launch the purchased download without signing in as the owner.

Offline access still depends on the game itself. A single-player campaign may work completely offline, while a title that checks servers at startup, stores progress remotely or requires online matchmaking will not retain all functionality.
Digital license versus physical disc
| Access method | What you need | Main limitations |
|---|---|---|
| Purchased digital copy | The purchasing account, a library entitlement and a compatible console. | Redownload availability, license checks and platform support can change. |
| Installed digital copy | Existing files plus the console’s valid license state. | Deleting the files may require a future library download; online features can still disappear. |
| Physical disc | The correct disc, a disc-capable console and a compatible region/edition. | You must insert the disc; patches, DLC, updates and servers are separate. |
A disc can supply the game data and the local permission to launch, but it is not a time capsule for every related service. If a patch is no longer hosted, you may be limited to the version on the disc or to updates still available for that platform. Downloadable expansions may require a matching regional account and may themselves be delisted.

Can a PS5 play a delisted PS4 game?
Sony documents PS4 game support on PS5, but compatibility is title-specific rather than universal. A delisted PS4 game may work through backward compatibility, may require the disc edition, or may be unsupported. Check the individual game’s PS4-on-PS5 compatibility information before buying hardware for that purpose.
A PS5 does not restore a revoked license, replace a missing download, or bring back a closed multiplayer service. If you own the digital PS4 version, sign in with the purchasing account on the PS5 and look in Game Library. If you own a disc, use a PS5 model with a disc drive; a disc cannot be inserted into a digital-only model.
Saved data, trophies and downloadable content can have additional compatibility rules. Confirm that the edition you are installing matches the region and product version of your existing saves and add-ons.

Offline campaign and online service are separate
A store delisting and a server shutdown are independent events. A publisher can stop sales while leaving matchmaking online, or close servers while an already installed campaign remains playable.
| Feature | What may continue after delisting | What can stop independently |
|---|---|---|
| Local single-player campaign | Often playable from installed files or a disc. | Startup authentication or mandatory online checks can block it. |
| Multiplayer matchmaking | Only while the game’s servers and account services operate. | Server closure removes matchmaking even if the game launches. |
| User-generated content | Downloaded local copies may remain, if the game stores them locally. | Uploading, browsing or downloading community content can end with the service. |
| Leaderboards and cloud features | Local saves and offline statistics may remain. | Remote rankings, cloud sync and authentication can disappear. |
| Patches and DLC | Anything already installed remains on the drive. | Future downloads may be unavailable after hosting or licensing ends. |
Before relying on a delisted game, launch its offline mode while your console is connected, install every update still offered, and test the save system with the network disconnected. Do not assume that a playable menu means every mode still works.
What happens to PS3 and PS Vita purchases?
Sony announced in 2026 that, after nearly two decades of supporting the PS3 generation, it would close the PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita in the relevant region beginning in July 2027. The announcement says players will still be able to download previously purchased content after the closing date “for the foreseeable future.”
Sony’s current support notice also says: “You can continue playing content you already own, subject to each game’s existing online features and service availability.” That qualification matters: the store timetable concerns new purchases and access to previously bought content, not a promise that every game server, leaderboard or user-generated-content service will remain active.
If you own PS3 or Vita software, sign in to the purchasing account, verify the item in your download list or library, and download it before you need it. Keep local copies where the platform allows, because future availability is described as foreseeable rather than permanent and individual products can have separate service restrictions.
A practical decision tree
- Did you purchase it digitally? Use the original account’s Game Library and transaction history. If the entitlement is present, attempt a library download and restore licenses.
- Did you delete it? Redownload only from the library, not by searching for a vanished store page. If Sony no longer serves that platform entitlement, the library may not offer a new download.
- Is there a padlock? Check the purchasing account, console activation and license restoration before concluding that the delisting removed access.
- Do you own a disc? Insert the matching disc in a compatible, disc-capable console. Then check separately for patches, DLC and region requirements.
- Are you moving to PS5? Verify that the specific PS4 title is supported. Compatibility is title-specific.
- Do you need multiplayer or user-generated content? Find the game’s current server notice. A local campaign can survive a service shutdown, but network modes cannot.
Protect access before a store or service change
- Keep the purchasing account’s sign-in details and two-step-verification recovery methods current.
- Record the title and edition shown in transaction history, including region-specific DLC.
- Download owned games and add-ons while they are still offered for your platform.
- Enable Console Sharing and Offline Play on your primary PS5, or primary-console activation on PS4.
- Launch the game online once, then test its campaign, saves and essential menus offline.
- Do not uninstall a working copy merely because the store page disappeared.
- Check server notices before purchasing a used disc for multiplayer; the disc cannot reopen a closed service.
Bottom line
Delisting usually removes the chance for a new purchase, not the right to use a game you already bought. The safest path is to use the original account, confirm the transaction, redownload from Game Library, restore licenses and configure the console for offline play. A disc can preserve local access, and a PS5 can run many—but not every—PS4 title. None of those steps can restore a revoked entitlement or a server that has permanently shut down.
