Yes—existing owners can still access and play Total War: SHOGUN 2. The original standalone Steam listing was scheduled for delisting on 28 September 2026, but delisting does not revoke a license already attached to your account. SEGA and Creative Assembly later said on 15 October 2026 that they were removing Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition from sale and working to reinstate the original game while they investigated problems. They did not give a completion date.
If you owned the original Steam release, you were promised missing legacy DLC at no additional cost, with one important exception: the Blood Pack is excluded because of age-rating restrictions. The Complete Edition also uses a different mod system, so original SHOGUN 2 mods do not work with it.

What happened to Total War: SHOGUN 2?
The change happened in stages rather than as a single permanent shutdown.

| 28 September 2026, 16:00 UTC | SEGA announced that the standalone Steam listing would stop being purchasable. | Existing owners could keep playing. The store page was expected to remain visible, with the game and DLC presented through Complete Edition. |
| 2026 launch | Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition launched on Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and GOG. | It was presented as an updated package containing SHOGUN 2 and its associated DLC, with storefront-specific differences. |
| 15 October 2026 | Creative Assembly and SEGA said Complete Edition had “fallen short of both your expectations and our own standards.” | They began working with platform holders to remove Complete Edition from sale and reinstate the original game while investigating issues. |
The 15 October statement also says, “Existing owners will still be able to access and play the game.” That is the clearest current answer for anyone worried that the delisting erased their purchase.
#1 Best Overall
- Choose from 9 different clans and compete online and offline for the undisputed supremacy of Medieval Japan
- Play through the Main Campaign in single player or invite a friend online to play competitively or cooperatively in Campaign Multiplayer mode
- Developed according to Sun Tzu's principles in the Art of War, the Artificial Intelligence constantly analyzes its situation
- Build and govern cities, recruit and train troops, conduct diplomacy and manage your agents
- Improved land and naval battle gameplay, now with the ability to combine forces and attacks
Can you still play it if you owned the original?
Yes. A Steam delisting affects new purchases, not the license of someone who already owns the game. The original SHOGUN 2 remains tied to an existing Steam account, and the reinstatement process announced on 15 October is intended to restore the original listing rather than remove access from current owners.
What to do in Steam
- Sign in to the Steam account that originally purchased or activated Total War: SHOGUN 2.
- Open Library and search for “Total War: SHOGUN 2.”
- Install or launch the original entry shown in your library. Do not assume that a missing store button means the license has disappeared.
- Open the game’s properties and check the DLC tab to see which entitlements are attached to your account.
If the game is not visible, verify that you are using the purchasing account, check Steam’s hidden games and family-sharing settings, and review your account’s purchase history. Those checks address account or library problems; they do not change the publisher’s entitlement policy.
What happens to your Shogun 2 DLC?
Existing Steam owners receive legacy DLC they do not already own at no additional cost under the announced entitlement. The exception is the Blood Pack, which is excluded because of age-rating restrictions. “All DLC” therefore does not mean every item in every region or package.
| Ownership or purchase route | Game content | DLC treatment |
|---|---|---|
| Already owned the original SHOGUN 2 on Steam | Original game remains playable. | Missing legacy DLC is granted at no additional cost, except Blood Pack. |
| Buy Complete Edition on Steam | Includes the original SHOGUN 2. | Includes associated DLC except Blood Pack. |
| Buy Complete Edition on Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store or GOG | Complete Edition only, according to SEGA’s FAQ. | Package details follow that storefront’s Complete Edition listing; the FAQ does not describe these purchases as a separate original-game entitlement. |
The Blood Pack exception
The Blood Pack is the one explicitly excluded item for Steam’s legacy-DLC entitlement and the Steam Complete Edition package. The stated reason is age-rating restrictions. The official 15 October reinstatement announcement does not establish a new Blood Pack policy, so there is no basis for promising that it will be restored, transferred or included later.

The temporary Steam-owner discount
SEGA announced a limited-time 75% launch discount for existing Steam owners purchasing Complete Edition. That was a launch promotion, not a permanent price or a replacement for the free legacy-DLC entitlement. The announcement does not establish that the discount remains available during the reinstatement process.
How do the original game and Complete Edition differ?
Complete Edition was described as an updated and enhanced build rather than merely a bundle. Its listed changes include visual upgrades, interface scaling, modernized controls, expanded language support, additional playable factions, integrated mod support and a 64-bit upgrade.
| Area | Original Total War: SHOGUN 2 | Complete Edition |
|---|---|---|
| Ownership status | Existing Steam licenses remain playable. | SEGA and Creative Assembly announced removal from sale while they investigate issues; the reinstatement timeline is unknown. |
| Graphics | Original lighting, shadows and textures. | Updated lighting, shadows and textures. |
| Interface | Original interface scaling. | 1440p and 4K UI scaling. |
| Controls | Original control scheme. | Modernised controls. |
| Languages | Original language support. | Japanese and Chinese voice acting plus full text localisation were listed. |
| Playable factions | Original faction roster. | More than 50 newly playable minor factions were listed. |
| Architecture | Original 32-bit-era build. | 64-bit upgrade. |
| Mod support | Original mod ecosystem. | Integrated Mod.io support; original mods are not compatible. |
The feature list describes what Complete Edition was intended to provide. It does not mean every feature is available in the original build after reinstatement.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCan you use old SHOGUN 2 mods in Complete Edition?
No. SEGA states that Complete Edition’s integrated Mod.io support makes it a separate mod-compatible build: mods made for the original Total War: SHOGUN 2 are not compatible with Complete Edition. The original game’s mods remain unchanged, so this is a compatibility boundary rather than a conversion of your existing files.

- Choose from 9 different clans and compete on and offline for the undisputed supremacy of Medieval Japan. Gain experience to level up your own character-warlord as well as your generals and agents.
- Play through the Main Campaign in single player or invite a friend online to play competitively or cooperatively in Campaign Multiplayer mode.
- Developed according to Sun Tzu's principles in the Art of War, the Artificial Intelligence constantly analyzes its situation and reacts to your every move with greater precision and variety.
- A streamlined User Interface makes management of your kingdom much easier. Build and govern cities, recruit and train troops, conduct diplomacy and manage your agents - each feature is now introduced with comprehensive tutorials
Practical consequences
- Keep the original game installed if a campaign depends on older Workshop or local mods.
- Do not copy an original mod folder into Complete Edition and expect it to load correctly.
- Use the mod distribution system supported by the build you are running.
- When troubleshooting crashes, first disable mods and confirm whether you are launching the original executable or Complete Edition.
A save built around a mod can also fail when that mod is absent or incompatible. Back up saves before switching installations, and treat the two builds as separate environments.
What does the 15 October removal announcement mean?
It means Complete Edition’s sale status was being reversed, not that ownership was being cancelled. Creative Assembly and SEGA said they were “working with platform holders to remove the game from sale and to reinstate the original game while we investigate the issues.”
Three points remain unresolved:
- The announcement does not say exactly when each storefront listing will change.
- It does not say whether Complete Edition will return after fixes.
- It does not announce any change to the Blood Pack policy.
Because no completion date was supplied, avoid treating the reinstatement as finished or assuming that Complete Edition has been permanently delisted. Storefront labels may change at different times while platform holders process the request.

What should different players do now?
If you already own SHOGUN 2 on Steam
- Keep the purchasing Steam account accessible; the entitlement is account-based.
- Launch the original library entry if you want the established mod ecosystem.
- Check the DLC tab for newly granted legacy items.
- Do not expect the Blood Pack to appear under the announced free entitlement.
- Back up saves before testing a different executable or mod setup.
If you bought Complete Edition on Steam
Your purchase is still an existing ownership record, and the 15 October statement says existing owners can access and play the game. If the store page disappears, check your Steam library rather than attempting to repurchase it. The Steam package was described as including the original game and associated DLC except Blood Pack.
Rank #4
If you bought on Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store or GOG
SEGA’s FAQ describes those storefront purchases as Complete Edition only. Use the library and support tools for the storefront where you bought it. The available package may not mirror Steam’s original-game presentation, and the official material does not promise identical entitlement handling across platforms.
If you never owned the game
Do not assume that a visible store page means a purchase is currently possible. The standalone Steam sale was scheduled to end on 28 September 2026, and Complete Edition was later slated for removal while the investigation continued. Availability can therefore change during the reinstatement process.

Does delisting uninstall the game?
No. Delisting removes or disables a new-purchase listing. It does not, according to the ownership statements, remove the game from an existing owner’s library.
Do existing owners get every DLC pack for free?
Existing Steam owners get missing legacy DLC at no additional cost, except the Blood Pack. That exception is specifically tied to age-rating restrictions.
Best Value
- The American, British and French nations played an important part in the story of the Boshin war and your relations with these foreign powers will be integral to unit recruitment and to advancing your technology trees.
- Thirty nine new land units, including modern ranged units - such as the Gatling gun and Armstrong gun - controllable in a new third-person mode.
- New port siege battle type, this new battle type triggers when attempting a naval assault on an occupied enemy port. The attacking fleet must sail into the harbour and capture the port, running the gauntlet of coastal gun defences.
- New land and sea unit interactions, during a land battle, armies can call in offshore artillery support barrages.
- Campaign map bombardments: offshore naval units can bombard armies and cities in adjacent coastal areas on the campaign map itself.
Is Complete Edition the same executable as the original?
No. The builds have different technical and mod-support characteristics. In particular, original mods are not compatible with Complete Edition.
Was the remaster taken off Steam permanently?
The 15 October announcement says SEGA and Creative Assembly were working to remove Complete Edition from sale and reinstate the original while investigating issues. It does not call the removal permanent and gives no date for completion.
Will the Blood Pack return if the original listing comes back?
That is not established. The official announcement does not change the earlier Blood Pack exclusion, so treat its future availability as unresolved.
