Not over the internet inside a 3DS Pokémon game. Nintendo ended 3DS online services on April 9, 2024, so in-game online trading is no longer available through Nintendo’s official service. Trading between nearby systems may still work by local wireless in games that support it. Pokémon Bank and Pokémon HOME are separate transfer and storage services, not a way to restore a 3DS game’s online trading.
Can you trade Pokémon online on 3DS?
No. Nintendo ended online services for Nintendo 3DS software on April 9, 2024. The shutdown covers online play and other internet communication features, so a working Wi-Fi connection does not bring back a game’s online trading functions, including the Global Trade Station. Nintendo recorded the service shutdown in its official announcement.

Can you trade Pokémon locally on 3DS?
Local wireless is distinct from internet trading, and it may still work for nearby players in games that support it. The exact requirements depend on the title: the number of systems and game copies needed can vary. Nintendo’s Nintendo 3DS communication-features guide explains that local play depends on the software and the systems required for that game.
Check the communication or trading options for your specific Pokémon game before arranging a trade. You will need the supported systems and software for that title; owning a compatible cartridge, such as Pokémon X or Pokémon Omega Ruby, does not restore internet trading. Nintendo’s official game pages identify titles in those series, but the local-play requirements should be checked for the exact game you plan to use.

Is Pokémon Bank the same as trading?
No. Pokémon Bank and Pokémon HOME are used to store or move Pokémon between supported games and services; they do not restart online trades inside 3DS games. Pokémon Bank is scheduled to end on February 26, 2027, at 03:00 UTC. The Pokémon Company International says that Bank-to-HOME transfers will also stop at that time on its Pokémon Bank page.
Plan any Bank-to-HOME move before the announced shutdown
The official Pokémon HOME move guide says moving Pokémon from Bank to HOME requires a paid HOME Premium Plan. The move is one-way: once a Pokémon has been moved from Bank into HOME, it cannot be returned to Bank. Check that your Pokémon and destination game are compatible before transferring.

Pokémon HOME’s mobile app lists Wonder Box, GTS, Room Trade, and Friend Trade as HOME features. These are trades through HOME, not a restoration of internet trading in a 3DS game. See The Pokémon Company International’s Pokémon HOME feature page for the available features.
