Minecraft’s official Xbox guidance does not document a way to export a world directly to a USB drive. For a backup while staying on Xbox, use the cloud save tied to your Microsoft account. To move a Bedrock world to another device, Minecraft documents using Realms to upload and download it.
Can you copy an Xbox Minecraft world to USB?
Not through a method documented in Minecraft’s official Xbox instructions. Those instructions cover cloud saves and managing worlds in Minecraft, but do not describe exporting a world to a USB stick or external drive. Connecting storage to the console is not, by itself, an established way to copy a Minecraft world save.
That distinction matters: a cloud save protects or syncs a world through your Microsoft account, while an export would create a portable file you could put on USB. The Xbox guidance supports the first workflow, not the second. Minecraft’s storage and data guidance explains the supported Xbox options.
Back up or sync the world on Xbox
Minecraft says Xbox automatically saves recent worlds to the cloud. When the console is online and you are signed in, the worlds are backed up automatically and associated with your Microsoft account. This is useful for continued access through that account; it does not produce a USB copy.

For older worlds, Minecraft says you can upload them from Settings > Storage > Manage Worlds. The available storage controls may vary as menus are updated, so consult the current Minecraft storage instructions if the labels differ.
Move a Bedrock world to another device with Realms
Minecraft documents Realms as the route for transferring a Bedrock world between devices. You need access to an active Realms trial or paid subscription, and Minecraft advises updating both devices to the current game version. The world downloaded on the destination appears in its Worlds tab as a copy. Follow the current Minecraft Realms transfer instructions for the interface labels.
Rank #2
- Transfer speeds up to 10x faster than standard USB 2.0 drives (4MB/s); up to 130MB/s read speed; USB 3.0 port required. Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending upon host device. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes
- Backward compatible with USB 2.0
- Secure file encryption and password protection(2)
- On the Xbox host: Open the world or Realm controls and upload the single-player world to a Realm slot, or replace the relevant slot as directed by the current Minecraft instructions.
- On the destination device: Sign in to Minecraft with the Microsoft account, open the Realm, and use its settings to download the world.
- Find the downloaded copy: Open the destination device’s Worlds tab. Minecraft says the downloaded world is added there.
Minecraft also says a downloaded Realms world can be copied from file storage, but that note does not establish an Xbox-to-USB export workflow. The steps for exporting worlds on Windows Bedrock are platform-specific: Windows has an Export World option in its world settings, and those instructions should not be treated as Xbox instructions. See Minecraft’s world storage guidance.
