You can’t transfer a game purchase from the EA app to Steam. EA’s published guidance says an EA-app purchase must be played through the EA app; a Steam copy is a separate purchase, not a move of your existing entitlement. EA Help explains the purchase and launcher rules.
What “transfer” means—and what you can do
Buying a game through one store gives you an entitlement for that store. Linking accounts does not convert an EA-app purchase into a Steam purchase or add the game to your Steam library.

How to link Steam to your EA Account
EA says linking is needed the first time you play an EA game on Steam. You can complete it when the game prompts you, or follow these steps:
- Sign in to your EA Account.
- Open EA Account settings and go to Connected Accounts.
- Select Steam, then sign in to Steam and follow the prompts to finish linking.
Most EA games require an EA Account even when played through another platform. Linking supports account access; it does not change which store sold the game or transfer ownership. EA’s account and game setup guidance notes that progress synchronization and cross-platform features are available only in select titles.

Check whether a Steam game still needs the EA app
Some EA games bought on Steam still need the EA app to launch. Check the specific game’s Steam store page under its software and DRM requirements. If it says third-party DRM, EA online activation, and EA app installation and background use are required, the EA app is part of the launch setup. Requirements vary by game. EA Help describes what to look for.
Will your saves or progress carry over?
Don’t assume that moving to a Steam edition will bring your saves or progression with it. EA says synchronization and cross-platform features apply to select titles, not every game. Check the official support information for the exact game to confirm whether it supports the save or progression transfer you want. EA’s general setup guidance does not establish behavior for every title.

Why you should not unlink accounts to transfer a game
Unlinking Steam from an EA Account is not a way to move a purchase. EA warns that progress will not transfer to a different EA Account and that unlinking can affect access to progress, DLC, expansions, memberships, rewards, and in-game purchases. Steam entitlements such as in-game rewards, points, and items remain on the EA Account to which that Steam account was first linked. Read EA’s unlinking warning before changing a connection. If you have an account-access or linking problem, contact EA support before unlinking or relinking.
