Yes, Nintendo supports transferring compatible save data from a Nintendo Switch to a Nintendo Switch 2. You can use the nearby-console save-data transfer when both consoles are available, or the Switch-to-Switch 2 system-transfer process during initial setup. The user on each console must be linked to the same Nintendo Account, and Nintendo says Nintendo Switch Online is not required for the nearby transfer.
The important limitation is game-specific: Nintendo and TECOPARK have not published a PICO PARK statement identifying every save field that transfers to Switch 2. The console transfer can move compatible save data, but you should not assume that every unlocked stage, score, statistic, or multiplayer-related value will be preserved until you verify the game on the new console. Transfer everything before resetting, selling, or initializing the old Switch.

What Nintendo’s transfer rules actually guarantee
Nintendo describes save data as being associated with both the Nintendo Account and the console. That is why a transfer requires the correct account on both systems rather than simply copying a file from one storage device to another. The software must also be compatible with the transfer process.
For a Switch-to-Switch 2 move, Nintendo documents two relevant routes. A nearby-console save-data transfer is intended for moving save data between consoles that are available at the same time. The consoles need an internet connection and must be placed near each other. The same Nintendo Account must be linked to the relevant users on both systems. Nintendo specifically states that a Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required for this nearby transfer.

The second route is the full Switch-to-Switch 2 system-transfer flow, normally chosen while setting up the new console. It can move more of the old system’s data, but the source-console consequence differs depending on whether you use local transfer or server transfer. Read the confirmation screen carefully before accepting.
Nearby save-data transfer versus system transfer
| Method | When to use it | Requirements | What happens to the old console |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nearby-console save-data transfer | Both the Switch and Switch 2 are available and you want to move compatible save data | Internet-connected consoles placed near each other; the same Nintendo Account linked to users on both systems; Nintendo Switch Online is not required | Follow the on-screen confirmation for the specific save. Nintendo’s nearby-transfer guidance does not state that every source save is erased, so do not initialize the old console until you have checked the new one. |
| Switch-to-Switch 2 system transfer, local | You are moving to the new console during setup and want the broader system-transfer process | Both consoles and the accounts requested by Nintendo’s setup flow | Nintendo warns that local transfer can delete save data from the source after completion. |
| Switch-to-Switch 2 system transfer, server | The setup flow directs you to upload data and complete the move through Nintendo’s server transfer | The accounts and connection required by the setup process | Nintendo says the source console is initialized after the upload. Treat this as a one-way move. |
A Nintendo Switch Online subscription is a separate option, not a prerequisite for the nearby transfer. Save Data Cloud can be used only by supported software and requires Nintendo Switch Online; it is not a guarantee that PICO PARK’s particular progress fields will be restored.
How to move your PICO PARK save
Option 1: Nearby-console save-data transfer
- Keep the original Switch and the Switch 2 powered on, connected to the internet, and close to one another.
- Confirm that the user who owns or normally plays PICO PARK is linked to the same Nintendo Account on both consoles. If the Switch 2 uses a different account, correct that before starting; the transfer is account-linked.
- Open the consoles’ save-data transfer function and identify PICO PARK in the list of compatible software. Start the send action on the old Switch and the receive action on the Switch 2, following the prompts shown on each screen.
- Do not launch the game, remove power, put either console into a state that interrupts the connection, or delete the old save while the transfer is running.
- When the consoles report completion, launch the same PICO PARK software on the Switch 2 with the receiving user. Check the level-selection screen and any score, completion, or settings information that matters to your group.
- Keep the old Switch untouched until you have confirmed the result. A successful Nintendo transfer does not by itself prove that every PICO PARK-specific field was recognized.
This route is the least destructive starting point when both consoles are in your possession because Nintendo’s published nearby-transfer description does not impose the source-initialization warning attached to the server system-transfer route. The on-screen confirmation remains controlling for your particular transfer.

Option 2: Full Switch-to-Switch 2 system transfer
- Start the Switch 2 setup process and choose the Switch-to-Switch 2 system-transfer option when it is offered.
- Prepare the original Switch with the user and Nintendo Account that contain your PICO PARK data. Keep both systems connected as instructed by the setup screens.
- Choose local transfer or server transfer only after reading the source-console warning. Local transfer can delete save data from the old system after completion; server transfer initializes the source console after its data is uploaded.
- Allow the process to finish without resetting the old console early. If the old system is initialized as part of the selected method, you may not have another local copy from which to recover.
- After setup, launch PICO PARK on the Switch 2 and verify the data before giving away, selling, or factory-resetting the original console.
If you are buying a replacement console but still need the old Switch for reference or recovery, the nearby save-data route gives you a way to move the compatible save first and inspect the result before making an irreversible system-transfer choice.
Will PICO PARK levels, scores, and unlocks carry over?
The honest answer is that Nintendo’s general compatibility rule is confirmed, while PICO PARK’s exact save-field behavior is not publicly documented in the official pages available for this game. Neither Nintendo nor TECOPARK lists a field-by-field promise that all unlocked levels, best scores, completion flags, settings, or multiplayer-related records will appear on Switch 2.
That means two statements can both be true: the Nintendo transfer can complete successfully, and a particular PICO PARK value can still be absent if the game does not store or restore that value in a Switch 2-compatible way. Do not treat a completed transfer animation as proof that every item your group earned has moved.

What to verify after the transfer
- Open the level or stage-selection screen and check the highest stage your group had reached.
- Look for completion marks, unlocked content, and any score or time records that matter to your play sessions.
- Check the game’s local-player setup and confirm that the expected user profile is available.
- Start a harmless test session, then exit normally so the game has an opportunity to write its current state on Switch 2.
- Compare the result with the old console before you erase it. Record screenshots or notes of important progress if the old system is about to be initialized.
If a stage or record is missing, first confirm that you launched the same PICO PARK title and selected the transferred Nintendo Account user. PICO PARK and PICO PARK 2 are separate games, so a save from one should not be expected to populate the other. If the correct title and user are selected but data remains absent, Nintendo’s general transfer compatibility does not provide a documented PICO PARK-specific recovery guarantee.
Does multiplayer progress transfer?
Multiplayer progress is not a portable live session. The transfer moves compatible saved data; it does not move an active room, connected players, controller assignments, or an online match from one console to another. Once the move is complete, players must launch the game on Switch 2 and use its normal local or online multiplayer modes.
Original PICO PARK
TECOPARK describes the original PICO PARK as a 2–8-player game with 48 levels on Nintendo Switch and Steam. Its official game information says cross-play is not supported. Therefore, a Switch 2 transfer does not create cross-platform play with a Steam group, and it does not turn a saved single-console session into a shared online room. Players on the new console must reconnect through the game’s supported local or online options.

PICO PARK 2
TECOPARK describes PICO PARK 2 as supporting up to eight players with cross-play across platforms. Its official FAQ says Nintendo Switch Online is required for online play. The cross-play rule applies to how players connect after launching the game; it is not evidence that every progression field from a Switch save will transfer to Switch 2.
| Game | Players | Cross-play | Nintendo Switch Online for online play |
|---|---|---|---|
| PICO PARK | 2–8 | Not supported | The supplied official game information does not state a Nintendo Switch Online requirement for every mode. |
| PICO PARK 2 | Up to 8 | Supported across platforms | Required, according to TECOPARK’s official FAQ. |
For either game, distinguish saved progression from multiplayer access. A transferred unlock or completion record, if the software preserves it, does not automatically transfer the other players’ accounts, controllers, or permissions. Recreate the party on Switch 2 using the game’s normal player-joining process.

- Keep both consoles charged or connected to power.
- Connect both systems to the internet and place them near each other for the nearby method.
- Use the same Nintendo Account-linked user on Switch and Switch 2.
- Identify whether you own PICO PARK or PICO PARK 2; they are separate titles with different multiplayer rules.
- Write down important stages, scores, and completion information so you can compare the new console with the old one.
- Do not reset, sell, trade in, or initialize the old Switch until verification is complete.
- If choosing full system transfer, read whether the selected local or server method deletes or initializes the source console.
Troubleshooting transfer and multiplayer problems
PICO PARK does not appear in the transfer list
Check that the game is installed or otherwise recognized on the source console, that you selected the correct user, and that both systems are using the Nintendo Account intended for the move. Nintendo’s rule applies to compatible software, so an unavailable title or incompatible software state may prevent selection. Do not erase the source while investigating.

The transfer completed, but progress looks new
Close the game and reopen it under the transferred user, then confirm that you launched the same title rather than switching between PICO PARK and PICO PARK 2. If stages or records are still missing, preserve the old console and treat the result as an unresolved game-specific compatibility issue; no official PICO PARK field-by-field guarantee has been published.
Online multiplayer will not connect on Switch 2
For PICO PARK 2, verify that the playing account has Nintendo Switch Online because TECOPARK requires it for online play. For the original PICO PARK, remember that cross-play is not supported, so players on another platform cannot join as a cross-platform group. The save transfer itself does not create or preserve an online room.
The old console was initialized too soon
Server system transfer initializes the source after upload, and local system transfer can delete source save data after completion. If you selected one of those methods, recovery depends on whether a supported cloud copy or another legitimate backup exists. Nintendo Switch Online is required for Save Data Cloud, and only supported software can use it; do not assume that a cloud copy exists for PICO PARK.

Bottom line for Switch owners
Transfer your PICO PARK save before retiring the old Switch. Nintendo supports compatible save-data movement between Switch and Switch 2, the nearby method does not require Nintendo Switch Online, and the same Nintendo Account must be linked on both consoles. However, the official material does not promise that PICO PARK’s individual stages, scores, unlocks, or multiplayer-related records all transfer. Verify the game on Switch 2 while the original console is still available, then rebuild your multiplayer room using the game’s normal mode. PICO PARK supports 2–8 players without cross-play; PICO PARK 2 supports up to eight with cross-play, and requires Nintendo Switch Online for online play.
