No documented built-in setting in GTA V turns off both blood and spoken profanity. Rockstar’s settings guidance explains how to open the game’s settings but does not identify a blood-off option or a Story Mode dialogue profanity filter. A third-party PC mod advertises profanity filtering for Story Mode, but it is incomplete and does not remove violence or other mature content.
What GTA V’s settings can—and can’t—do
Rockstar says you can change settings from the Pause Menu in Story Mode or GTA Online: select the Settings tab. Its guidance lists broad categories such as controls, audio, camera, and display, but does not document a setting to disable blood or filter voiced Story Mode dialogue. See Rockstar’s Adjusting settings within GTAV.

Do not assume a profanity control for player text or chat, where available, also cleans up spoken dialogue. The available official information does not establish that it filters Story Mode voice lines.
What content remains in the game
The ESRB rates the current PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series versions of Grand Theft Auto V Mature 17+. Its descriptors include blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and drug/alcohol use. The rating summary also describes frequent blood-splatter effects and profanity in dialogue. Check the ESRB rating summary for the listed platforms and content descriptors.
#1 Best Overall
- STUNNING VISUALS — Enhanced levels of fidelity and performance with new graphics modes featuring up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, HDR options, ray tracing, improved texture quality, and more
- FASTER LOADING — Quicker access to the action as the world of Los Santos and Blaine County load in faster than ever before.
- ADAPTIVE TRIGGERS AND HAPTIC FEEDBACK — Feel every moment through the DualSense controller, from directional damage to weather effects, rough road surfaces to explosions, and more.
- TEMPEST 3D AUDIO — Hear the sounds of the world with pinpoint precision: the throttle of a stolen supercar, the rattle of neighbouring gunfire, the roar of a helicopter overhead, and more.
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the European version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions.
That broader content matters when deciding whether the game is suitable for a child or for someone avoiding mature material. Disabling—or trying to filter—one element would not address the other content in the rating.
PC Story Mode mod: a limited, unofficial option
A Nexus Mods listing advertises a profanity filter for PC Story Mode. It is a third-party modification, not an official Rockstar feature. Its listing warns that it may miss some profanity and does not remove violence or sexual content; it also does not claim support for GTA Online.

- Platform: PC, according to the listing.

- Coverage: Best-effort profanity filtering; some swearing may remain.
- What it does not do: Remove blood, violence, sexual content, or other mature material.
Compatibility can depend on game and mod versions. Check the listing’s current compatibility notes and installation instructions before using it, and do not rely on it as a complete content filter.

If you want to remove blood and spoken swearing using official game settings, there is no documented built-in switch for either. The PC Story Mode mod is only a partial, unofficial option for profanity; it does not turn GTA V into a family-friendly game.
