You can unlink an Xbox account from the EA Account it is connected to through EA Account settings. But unlinking does not move your game progress, purchases, rewards, or other entitlements to another EA Account. If those matter, recover access to the existing EA Account before making a change.
EA’s instructions concern the link between a platform account and an EA Account—not cancelling an EA Play membership or Xbox Game Pass subscription. If you mean subscription billing, manage it through the account that bills you.
How to unlink an Xbox account from your EA Account
- Sign in to the EA Account that currently has your Xbox account linked.
- Open Connected Accounts in EA Account settings and find the Xbox account.
- Select Unlink, review the warning, and complete any identity verification EA requests on screen.
- Confirm only if you understand what access may be lost.
If you are switching away from an old or expired EA Account from inside an EA game, EA also documents an in-game option: start the game, choose Use another account and Continue, confirm the unlink, then enter the intended EA Account credentials. The available flow may vary by game and situation.
Will unlinking make you lose progress or purchases?
It can remove access to data and content associated with the EA Account that was linked. EA warns that progress does not transfer to a replacement EA Account. Potentially affected items include:

Some effects are game-specific. EA says unlinking a platform identity still active in the EA SPORTS FC Web App or Companion App can remove access to those apps. For Apex Legends, EA notes possible issues with Battle Pass leveling and item unlocks. These examples do not mean every game is affected in the same way.
When can’t you unlink the account?
EA’s current guidance says linked accounts can be switched up to three times in a rolling year. Eligibility can depend on the account and current EA rules. EA’s troubleshooting guidance says disabled, locked, or suspended EA Accounts cannot be unlinked; sign-in access is also required. A localized EA troubleshooting page has described a one-year wait in some cases when a platform account was linked less than a year ago. Check the notice on your own Connected Accounts page, since eligibility rules and localized guidance may differ or change.

If the Unlink option is unavailable, do not assume another EA Account can inherit the old account’s progress or purchases. Review EA’s account-link troubleshooting guidance or contact EA support about the specific restriction.
What if you can’t access the EA Account?
Try signing in to EA with the Xbox Live account linked to it. If that does not work, recover the existing EA Account before unlinking if its saved progress, purchases, or rewards matter to you. EA recommends preparing details such as the original email address, linked usernames—including your Xbox gamertag—and relevant purchase invoice numbers when seeking account recovery. Unlinking is not subscription cancellation
Removing the Xbox-to-EA Account link is different from cancelling a subscription billed through Xbox or EA. EA’s unlink guidance lists subscriptions among items that may be affected, but it does not establish that unlinking cancels an Xbox subscription managed separately. Use the subscription account’s billing controls to check or cancel a membership.
