Can You Use Emojis in VALORANT Chat or Your Riot ID?

There is no confirmed, reliable current method for sending emojis in VALORANT chat. Riot’s available documentation does not provide an emoji-chat procedure or confirm that other players will see emoji messages. A report in August 2026 described an accidental rollout and a fix, but it does not establish what works now. Riot ID names have separate published character rules that exclude emoji.

Can you send emojis in VALORANT chat?

Riot’s current official documentation does not explain how to send emojis in text chat or confirm that emoji messages are supported and visible to teammates. So, while typing or pasting an emoji may appear to work on your screen, that is not a reliable way to know other players can see it.

Dot Esports reported on August 4, 2026, that emoji chat had appeared accidentally. The report said VALORANT product manager Stephen Kraman described a fix intended to stop other players from seeing emoji messages, with another hotfix planned to remove emojis. If emojis appeared for you recently, treat that as an observation from your client—not proof that the feature is officially supported or that everyone in the match can see them. Check the current in-client behavior or contact Riot Support for current guidance. There is no documented platform-specific workaround established by the sources cited here.

Can you put an emoji in your Riot ID?

Riot’s published Riot ID FAQ says the ID combines a game name and a tagline. Its stated character rules are:

Those rules do not allow emoji characters. Riot says a Riot ID is used across Riot games, so changing it affects how you appear in-game, not just in VALORANT. To manage it, use the Riot Account page; the FAQ says ID changes are free and subject to a 90-day cooldown.

Why an emoji can render in one place but not another

Unicode defines emoji characters and sequences, but software decides how to interpret and display them. The Unicode Consortium’s UTS #51, version 18.0 describes emoji and implementation considerations; it does not document VALORANT compatibility. A character appearing in an input field therefore does not establish that the game supports it in chat, preserves it, or displays it to other players.

Keep names and chat within Riot’s rules

Do not use emoji or symbol combinations to disguise abusive language. Riot says inappropriate names and chat can be subject to monitoring. Its player dynamics update discusses monitoring in-game names and text chat; its Playing with Respect article provides conduct context but does not establish emoji-chat support.
