Before streaming, confirm that you have permission for both the class footage and all included music specifically for a YouTube live broadcast. YouTube may interrupt a live stream that contains third-party content, and permission alone does not guarantee monetization eligibility.
Check the rights before you schedule a class
YouTube’s livestream terms require the person providing the stream to have the necessary rights to use its content on Google services, including music rights and other permissions. A license to watch, download, teach with, or upload a class as an ordinary video does not necessarily cover rebroadcasting it as a continuous live stream. Read the actual license and ask the rights holder about any unclear use. YouTube’s livestream terms do not establish the scope of a particular class license.
If you own the class
If you created and own the footage, check that you also control the rights to every element in it, especially music, guest appearances, and any third-party material. If another instructor or studio owns the class, get written permission or a license that expressly covers YouTube live broadcasting, the intended territories and duration, and whether the stream will be archived or made available afterward.
Check music rights separately
Permission to use the class video may not include permission to broadcast its soundtrack. Confirm that the music rights cover the intended live use. If a third party licensed the class or music to you, ask the owner to allowlist your channel through Content ID before streaming. YouTube’s live copyright guidance says licensed material can still be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel.

Put the permitted use in writing
When seeking permission, specify that the content will be played as part of a continuous YouTube Live playlist—not merely posted as a standard video. Clarify whether the permission covers the music, the countries where the stream may be viewed, how long it may run, any archive or replay, and whether monetization is permitted. These are practical questions to resolve with the rights holder; the platform guidance does not decide what a particular contract allows.
Understand what YouTube can do during a live stream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can trigger a warning and placeholder image; if the matched content remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. This can happen even when you believe you have a license, so resolve Content ID allowlisting with the rights holder before going live. See Copyright issues with live streams.

Allowlisting is not a substitute for permission: obtain the necessary rights first, then ask the owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist where applicable. A clear rights trail and a tested stream plan reduce avoidable problems, but they cannot guarantee how YouTube will handle a specific stream.
Make sure your channel can go live
YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. The stream must also comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Check Get started with live streaming for the current setup requirements before scheduling the playlist.

Permission does not guarantee monetization
YouTube treats reused-content review separately from copyright enforcement. Its channel monetization policies define reused content as material repurposed from YouTube or another online source without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. The policy applies to live streams, and YouTube says it is separate from copyright, permission, and fair use. Therefore, having a license to rebroadcast a yoga class does not by itself establish that the channel will qualify for monetization.
Eligible channels may have live revenue features such as ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and memberships, but these are conditional; YouTube does not guarantee that ad slots will serve. Use this pre-stream checklist
- Footage: Identify who owns each class and obtain permission that expressly covers a YouTube live broadcast.
- Music: Verify that the rights cover live use, not just the video or an in-person class.
- Content ID: If content is licensed from a third party, ask whether the owner will allowlist your channel.
- Scope: Confirm territories, duration, archive or replay, and monetization terms with the rights holder.
- Channel: Verify the channel and check its live-stream eligibility and compliance requirements.
- Monetization expectations: Treat copyright clearance and YouTube’s reused-content review as separate questions.
