How to Run a 24/7 YouTube Stream of Assamese Songs from a VPS in India

A practical guide to looping authorized Assamese songs from an India VPS to YouTube Live, with encoder settings, rights checks and failure fixes.

You can run a continuous Assamese music broadcast by looping an authorized audio-and-visual feed through an encoder such as FFmpeg on a Linux VPS, then sending it to a YouTube Live event over RTMPS. The VPS can keep the encoder running while your own computer is off, but it does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast: YouTube must accept the feed, the server needs reliable sustained upload, and you need rights covering both the recordings and the underlying songs.

What you need before you start

  • A YouTube channel with live access and a Live Control Room event you can use. Check the channel’s current access and restrictions; eligibility is account-specific.
  • A Linux VPS whose provider permits continuous streaming and whose sustained outbound capacity can support your chosen bitrate with room for network variation. A server being online does not prove its network can maintain a live feed.
  • A prepared playlist of Assamese recordings and a visual element that you are authorized to use. Confirm rights for the particular catalogue before putting it on air.
  • An encoder such as FFmpeg, configured for a YouTube-supported format, plus the current ingest address and stream key shown for your event.

This guide describes a practical setup, not a tested VPS size, FFmpeg command, provider, uptime level, catalogue clearance, or channel eligibility result. Verify those details with your account, provider and rights holders.

Clear the music rights before broadcasting

Owning a file or buying a commercial recording does not by itself grant permission to broadcast it publicly. Music rights have separate layers: the sound recording and the underlying musical and literary works. IPRS identifies recording owners such as PPL, Novex and RMPL as possible sources of sound-recording permissions, and says its licensing concerns musical and literary works in its repertoire. A licence from one party or society should not be assumed to clear every right.

  1. Make a song-by-song or catalogue list, including the exact recordings, compositions and lyrics you plan to use.
  2. Identify the sound recording owner and the relevant musical and literary work owners or administrators for each item.
  3. Ask the relevant rights holders or licensing bodies to confirm that permission covers continuous YouTube livestreaming, your territories, duration, and monetization or archiving if applicable.
  4. Ask licensed third-party owners to add your channel to their Content ID allowlist. YouTube says a live stream can still be interrupted without allowlisting even if it is restricted to territories where you have rights.

IPRS puts the purchase issue plainly: “Just as purchasing a printed copy of a theatrical play that is in copyright does not entitle the purchaser to perform the play in public, so also the purchaser of a copy of a piece of music or of a commercial recording, does not entitle him to perform in public the work embodied in the copy or recording.” See IPRS licensing guidance and confirm that any licence covers your actual repertoire.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can trigger a warning, placeholder, interruption or termination; strikes can also end a live stream. Archived live streams may receive Content ID claims after the broadcast. Details: YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Create the YouTube Live event and protect its key

  1. Open your channel’s YouTube Live controls and create or select the event you intend to use. Confirm the event’s visibility and settings before sending a public broadcast.
  2. In the event’s encoder or stream settings, copy the current ingest URL and stream key shown by YouTube. Do not reuse a guessed endpoint or key from an old setup.
  3. Prefer RTMPS when available. Keep the stream key private: do not put it in a public script repository, shared screenshot, or logs accessible to others. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube’s controls.
  4. Use the event’s current connection details in the encoder on the VPS. Google’s RTMPS implementation guidance specifies the RTMPS protocol, a valid YouTube endpoint and application path, port 443, and SNI using the server hostname during the TLS handshake. See Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide.

RTMPS is RTMP carried through an SSL connection. If a custom encoder connection fails, check that it supports the current endpoint, port and TLS/SNI requirements rather than assuming any RTMP URL will work.

Choose encoder settings the VPS can sustain

YouTube’s published encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265 (HEVC) and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), frame rates up to 60 fps, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that must not exceed four seconds. For a simple music stream with a mostly static visual, 720p30 H.264 with AAC is a conservative starting point.

Output example YouTube H.264 bitrate guidance Practical implication
720p30 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended Choose a bitrate the VPS can sustain continuously, with margin for network variation.
1080p30 5 Mbps minimum; 14 Mbps recommended Requires more sustained outbound capacity than the 720p30 example.

These are YouTube encoder figures, not VPS plan specifications or a guarantee that a given server can deliver them. YouTube recommends selecting quality for a reliable connection and testing upload capacity. Its current settings and test advice are on the live encoder settings page. YouTube transcodes a live feed for different viewing formats, so sending a higher-resolution source does not mean every viewer receives that exact output.

For an FFmpeg setup, build a playlist input and an authorized visual source into a continuous feed, encode to a supported video/audio combination, use CBR and the recommended keyframe interval, and send the output to the event’s RTMPS destination. The exact command depends on your media, FFmpeg build, codec availability, and event settings; no single command or VPS configuration is established here. Test with the actual playlist and visual rather than assuming a command will suit every input.

Install, test and launch from the VPS

  1. Check the provider’s terms and capacity. Confirm continuous outbound streaming is allowed, what traffic or sustained-use limits apply, and that the server’s network can maintain the target bitrate. The NIC’s India webcast page cites 2–4 Mbps per stream for its own service context; that is not a YouTube recommendation or a VPS specification. See NIC webcast service prerequisites.
  2. Prepare the feed. Make a playlist of cleared recordings and choose a cleared visual. Check playback order, transitions and audio levels locally before using the VPS.
  3. Set up the encoder process. Install FFmpeg using your distribution’s supported package or build, then configure the playlist, visual, codec, bitrate, keyframe interval and RTMPS output. Keep credentials out of exposed files and logs; restrict access to configuration that contains the key.
  4. Start a private or suitable test event. Use representative audio and movement. Check that the VPS has enough sustained upload, the video and sound stay synchronized, the playlist advances, and YouTube reports a healthy incoming stream.
  5. Go public only after checking the feed. Inspect YouTube’s stream-health messages and listen/watch for gaps. Continue monitoring after launch and have an operator who can respond to a failed encoder, network change, platform warning or rights interruption.
  6. Plan recovery, not just looping. A process supervisor or retry strategy can restart a failed encoder, but cannot fix every VPS network failure, YouTube interruption or copyright restriction. Verify recovery behavior with a test and keep a way to intervene.

YouTube specifically recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast, checking upload capacity, and monitoring stream health and messages while live. An always-on machine is only one part of that operating plan.

Troubleshoot common failures

  • YouTube does not receive a signal: Confirm the event is active, the ingest URL and stream key are current, and the encoder is sending to the full endpoint and application path. For RTMPS, verify port 443 connectivity and TLS/SNI handling.
  • The stream health is poor or viewers see buffering: Compare actual sustained upload with the encoder’s output bitrate and reduce output quality or bitrate if the server cannot hold it with margin. Check for VPS traffic limits or provider restrictions.
  • The stream stops after an encoder error: Inspect the encoder process and input files, then confirm that your supervisor or retry method restarts it. A process restart will not solve a broken source file, lost network access or a platform-side stop.
  • The feed is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder: Review YouTube’s warning and rights status. Resolve the match with the relevant owner; if the use is licensed, ask the owner to allowlist your channel. Do not assume a territorial restriction alone prevents interruptions.
  • A live stream works but the archive receives a claim: YouTube notes that archived broadcasts may receive Content ID claims after the stream ends. Recheck whether your permissions cover the recording and underlying works as well as livestreaming and archiving.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you do not want to maintain a VPS and encoder, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded-video YouTube stream running from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. It plays uploaded videos, not a camera feed, and streams to YouTube only.
