Roblox says Studio needs internet access to run. You can export a local .rbxl or .rbxlx place file, but that does not mean Studio is documented to work fully offline or that saving to your Roblox account works without a connection.
What Roblox says about using Studio offline
Roblox’s Creator Hub education FAQ states: “For Roblox Studio to run, it needs access to the internet.” Roblox recommends consistent internet access for creation, including to keep Studio up to date and store projects online.
Roblox’s Studio setup instructions also direct users to sign in with a Roblox account. They explain that an outdated version prompts users to update, but do not describe a supported offline launch mode or say whether a cached sign-in allows Studio to open without internet.
Local project files are different from account saves
Studio supports exporting a place to your computer. Roblox documents two formats: .rbxl, a binary place file, and .rbxlx, an XML-based place file. The place-files documentation distinguishes these local copies from saving or publishing to Roblox, which uploads place data to Roblox’s servers.

Roblox’s classroom setup guidance similarly describes saving locally in .RBXL format or storing a project online on an account. A local file gives you a copy of the place; it does not establish that Studio can launch or operate offline.
What happens if your connection drops?
Roblox’s documentation does not specify which editing, scripting, or playtesting features continue to work after a connection is lost, whether an already signed-in session can launch offline, or whether every local edit can be saved during an outage. So it is not possible to promise that a project will remain usable or save correctly after disconnection.

If you expect to lose internet, export a local copy while connected using Studio’s File menu. Treat this as a prudent backup step, not a guarantee of a complete offline workflow.
