Yes, you can sign in to both Minecraft: Java Edition and Minecraft: Bedrock Edition with the same Microsoft account. But that does not make every copy of the game or every purchase transferable. On PC, eligible owners of the Java & Bedrock bundle get both editions; Bedrock Marketplace content works within supported Bedrock platforms, not in Java. The editions also cannot play together through their standard multiplayer systems.
Does one Microsoft account give you both editions?
A shared Microsoft sign-in is not proof that the account owns both editions. Your entitlement depends on where and when you bought Minecraft and which account or platform store handled the purchase.
PC: check the account that bought the game
Minecraft’s PC ownership guide says to sign in to the Launcher with the Microsoft account used to buy Minecraft. If an edition is owned, the Launcher should offer Play or Install; if it shows Buy, check that you are using the correct account. When the PC bundle applies
Minecraft released the Java & Bedrock bundle for PC on June 7, 2022. Minecraft says players who own that version—or who migrated a Mojang account to a Microsoft account—should have access to both PC editions. Console and mobile purchases
If you bought Minecraft on a console or mobile device, check the game listing and purchase account for that platform. Do not assume that signing in with the same Microsoft account grants a second copy on PC, console, or mobile: platform-store purchases and the PC bundle are separate entitlement questions.
Do Minecraft purchases transfer between Java and Bedrock?
No. Java and Bedrock do not share all content or purchase types. The Marketplace, Minecoins, add-ons, and Character Creator items are Bedrock features and are not supported in Java. Java worlds and saves are also not compatible with Bedrock, so an account sign-in does not convert a world or purchase into its counterpart in the other edition. Marketplace purchases across Bedrock platforms
Minecraft says Marketplace purchases and Minecoins can roam across Windows 10, Windows 11, Xbox, mobile, and Nintendo Switch. This applies within supported Bedrock platforms, not to Java Edition. If an item is missing, confirm that you are using Bedrock, signed in to the Microsoft account that bought the content, and playing on a platform that supports access to it. PlayStation-specific Marketplace access
On PlayStation Bedrock, linking a Microsoft account gives access to eligible non-exclusive Marketplace content bought with that Microsoft account on other platforms. New purchases made on PlayStation use Minecraft Tokens. These platform-specific rules do not make Marketplace content available in Java. Can Java and Bedrock players play together?
Not through the standard editions: Java and Bedrock use different servers, so Java players cannot join Bedrock players’ games, even if everyone uses the same Microsoft account. Java cross-play is for supported Java players on Windows, Mac, and Linux; Bedrock cross-play is for supported Bedrock devices. Choose the edition that matches the people you want to play with. What to check when an edition or purchase is missing
- Identify the purchase. Note which device and store you used, whether you bought the game or Marketplace content, and which edition is missing.
- For a PC edition, verify the buying account. Sign in to the Launcher or Microsoft Store with the Microsoft account used for the PC purchase, then check whether the edition shows Play/Install or Buy. Minecraft Help: PC ownership
- For a console or mobile copy, check its platform store. Confirm the purchase account and the game listing on that device; do not apply the PC bundle entitlement to a different platform.
- For missing Marketplace content, check Bedrock and account association. Sign in with the Microsoft account used for the content and confirm that the platform supports access. - For an old Mojang account, check current support guidance. The migration period ended on December 18, 2023, and Minecraft says it no longer assists with migration-related queries.
