The phone list behind this headline dates to Fortnite’s 2018 Android beta; it is not a current compatibility guide. As of August 18, 2026, Epic’s native minimum is 64-bit ARM64 Android 10 or newer, at least 4 GB of RAM, and a qualifying GPU. For a better target, Epic recommends Android 14 or newer, 8 GB of RAM and a recent high-end processor. You can also play through cloud gaming in supported regions without installing Fortnite on the phone.
What the original phone list means
When this article was first published on August 14, 2018, Fortnite for Android was in beta, with access expanding beyond an initial Samsung-tied timed exclusive. Compatible Samsung devices could install through the Galaxy App Store; other Android users were directed to Epic’s website. The list below records devices named for that beta, not phones verified to run Fortnite today. The original 2018 article is useful as an archive, but its list should not guide a 2026 purchase.
Phones and tablets named for the 2018 beta
- Asus: ROG Phone, Zenfone 4 Pro, Zenfone 5Z and Zenfone V
- Essential: Essential PH-1
- Google: Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL
- Huawei: Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, Mate RS, Honor 10, P20, P20 Pro, View 10 and Nova 3
- LG: G5, G6, G7, G7 ThinQ, V20, V30 and V30 Plus
- Nokia: Nokia 8
- OnePlus: OnePlus 5, 5T and 6
- Razer: Razer Phone
- Samsung: Galaxy Tab S3, Tab S4, Note 8, Note 9, S7, S7 Edge, S8, S8 Plus, S9 and S9 Plus
- Xiaomi: Black Shark, Mi 5-series, Mi 6-series, Mi 8-series, Mi Mix-series and Mi Note 2
- ZTE: Axon 7/7S, Axon M, Nubia Z11, Axon Z17 and Axon Z17S
Being on that beta list does not establish that a particular device still meets Epic’s current Android-version, processor or graphics requirements. For example, an old phone’s name and its original beta eligibility are not a substitute for checking its present software and exact hardware.
Fortnite’s current Android requirements
Epic’s Android requirements, checked August 18, 2026, distinguish the minimum for native play from its recommended target. The minimum is a compatibility floor, not a promise of high graphics settings, stable frame rates or comfortable long sessions.

| Specification | Minimum | Epic-recommended target |
|---|---|---|
| Android version | Android 10 or newer | Android 14 or newer |
| Architecture and processor | 64-bit Android on an ARM64 processor | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or newer, Exynos 2400 or newer, or Dimensity 9200 or newer |
| Memory | At least 4 GB RAM | At least 8 GB RAM |
| Graphics | Adreno 530 or newer, Mali-G71 MP20, or Mali-G72 MP12 or newer | Epic expresses its recommended target as system-on-chip classes above, rather than a separate GPU threshold |
These figures come from Epic’s Android system-requirements page. A phone that only clears the minimum may need lower graphics settings and can still have performance limits; Epic advises reducing graphics settings and closing background apps if play is poor.
What to look for if buying a phone
For a new purchase, use Epic’s recommended software, RAM and chip classes as the baseline rather than shopping from the 2018 list. Then consider how you actually play: sustained performance and comfort over a long session depend on more than the name of the processor.

- Software support: Favor Android 14 or newer. Android updates also matter because a phone must continue to meet the game’s requirements over time.
- RAM and chipset: Aim for 8 GB RAM or more and one of Epic’s recommended SoC classes. Do not assume that a brand or series name guarantees the same processor in every regional model.
- Cooling and battery: Fortnite is demanding. A phone with effective thermal design and a battery suited to long gaming sessions is preferable; no universal temperature or battery-life figure is established here.
- Display: A high-refresh-rate screen may feel more responsive, but it does not guarantee Fortnite will render at that refresh rate.
- Storage: Leave meaningful free space for the game and updates. The installer’s size alone is not a reliable estimate of ongoing storage needs.
- Controls and connection: Touch controls are available; a compatible controller may suit some players better. For online play, low latency and a stable Wi-Fi or mobile connection matter more than a headline download-speed figure.
Epic’s specifications establish the first three technical thresholds, not device-by-device frame rates, thermals or battery endurance. Verify the exact regional model and chipset before buying; do not infer performance from RAM alone.
How to check your exact Android phone
- Open Settings, then look under About phone or Software information for the Android version. Menu names vary by manufacturer.
- Find the precise model number and processor/GPU in the phone maker’s specification page or a reputable device-information utility. Confirm 64-bit ARM64 architecture, RAM and the listed GPU; a model family can contain regional variants.
- Try Fortnite’s official Google Play listing where available, or use Epic’s official Android installation route. A store compatibility message is a reason to investigate the exact device and region, not to download a modified APK from an unofficial mirror.
Install through Epic Games Store
Epic’s documented route is to download and install the Epic Games app from its official Android store page, open it, and install Fortnite from within the app. Android may ask you to allow that app to install software from that source. Grant permission only to the official app and source you intended to use, then review or revoke it in Android settings if you no longer need it. Epic also documents Google Play as an official route where the game is available. See Epic’s download instructions.

Do not confuse the store app’s requirements with Fortnite’s. Epic says the Epic Games Store app can run on Android 8/SDK 26 or newer and needs approximately 25 MB for the store app itself; individual games may need more. That does not mean Fortnite itself runs on Android 8. Epic says the Android store is broadly available except where prohibited by U.S. law, including North Korea and Iran, and other regional legal requirements can affect distribution.

Cloud gaming is the alternative Epic lists for supported regions: Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA GeForce NOW and Amazon Luna. In this arrangement the game runs remotely and streams to the phone, so you do not install the native Fortnite game. Epic’s Android page links these cloud options.

Cloud play shifts the bottleneck from the phone’s gaming hardware to the connection and service. Latency, Wi-Fi congestion, video compression, mobile-data use, regional availability and each service’s account or plan conditions can affect the experience. It is not equivalent to native play for responsiveness, and Epic’s cited page does not establish universal performance or pricing. Check the chosen service’s current device, browser, region and account requirements. Remote play from a personal console or PC is a separate option, not one of the cloud services listed on Epic’s page.
Quick Recap
Troubleshoot an installation or compatibility problem
- Store says incompatible: Check Android version, 64-bit ARM64 architecture, RAM and GPU against Epic’s minimum, and verify the exact regional model. A matching brand name or 4 GB RAM alone does not prove compatibility.
- Epic Games app will not install: Make sure you downloaded it from Epic’s official page. Android may require permission for installs from that source; some devices also have security controls such as Samsung Auto Blocker that can interfere. These are possible causes, not universal requirements to disable protections.
- Download or update fails: Check available storage and system software, then retry through the official store route. The store app’s small installation size does not indicate the space Fortnite and its updates need.
- Game runs poorly: Reduce graphics settings and close background apps, as Epic recommends. Minimum-spec compliance does not guarantee high settings or sustained performance.
- Native play is not an option: Check whether a cloud service listed by Epic is available for your region and connection rather than relying on unofficial APK sources.
