No high-end gaming PC is required for Minecraft Dungeons, but the published baseline is higher than a typical office computer. The key requirement is a discrete DirectX 11 graphics card in the class of an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870. The listed recommended specification also calls for a Core i5 at 2.8 GHz (or equivalent), 8 GB of memory and 2 GB of video memory. If your computer meets or exceeds those figures, the published requirements give no reason to replace it just for this game. They do not, however, promise a particular frame rate on your exact hardware.
What “good PC” means for Minecraft Dungeons
Minecraft Dungeons is modest by current gaming-PC standards, but it is not a game you can assume will run well on every inexpensive laptop. Its published graphics baseline is a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660, AMD Radeon HD 7870, or an equivalent DirectX 11 GPU. Those are older discrete cards, yet they are still a different class from many integrated graphics processors built into basic office laptops.

The processor and memory targets are also ordinary for a gaming-capable computer: a Core i5 running at 2.8 GHz or an equivalent CPU, 8 GB of system RAM and 2 GB of video memory. Steam lists those same components in both its minimum and recommended sections, while the official Minecraft store places them in its recommended column. Neither listing gives an FPS target, a graphics preset, or a benchmark for a specific computer, so a machine that merely matches the table cannot be promised a particular experience.

These are two storefront descriptions, not a single universal compatibility guarantee. Use the column for the edition you intend to install. Steam also notes that performance increases with higher-end systems, but it does not attach a frame-rate number to that statement.
How to compare your Windows PC with the requirements
1. Confirm Windows version and architecture
- Open Settings from the Windows Start menu.
- Select System, then About.
- Check Windows specifications for the version and System type for a 64-bit operating system.
The official Minecraft store specifies Windows 10 version 18362.0 or later and x64. Steam’s entry uses the November 2019 Windows 10 update as its main wording. Do not treat the older Windows 7/8 text on Steam as a blanket promise: that entry warns that some functionality is unsupported, and Steam’s own client-support note says that, from January 1, 2024, the Steam client supports Windows 10 and later.
2. Identify the processor
- In Settings > System > About, read the processor model.
- Alternatively, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, choose Performance, and select CPU.
Compare the model with a Core i5 at 2.8 GHz or an equivalent chip. Clock speed alone is not a complete measure of equivalence, so do not judge a modern processor solely by the GHz number. The listings provide a reference class, not a detailed CPU compatibility list.

3. Check the graphics processor and DirectX support
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Choose Performance, then inspect each GPU entry.
- For a fuller report, press Windows + R, enter
dxdiag, and review the Display tabs.
You are looking for a discrete GPU comparable to a GTX 660 or Radeon HD 7870 and capable of DirectX 11. A laptop may show both an integrated GPU and a discrete GPU; the game needs to use the latter for the comparison to be meaningful. If the computer only reports integrated graphics, the published requirements do not establish that it will provide acceptable performance.
4. Check RAM, video memory and free space
- Task Manager’s Performance > Memory panel shows installed system RAM. The target is 8 GB.
- The GPU details in Task Manager or
dxdiagshow dedicated video memory where Windows exposes it. The official recommended figure is 2 GB. - In File Explorer, right-click the drive where you will install the game and choose Properties. Steam lists 6 GB of available storage; the official Minecraft table does not state a storage amount.
Leave additional room for Windows updates, launcher files and save data rather than treating the listed 6 GB as the total capacity your drive should have.
Minimum versus recommended: why the listings look unusual
The official Minecraft store leaves several minimum fields blank and gives the CPU, GPU, DirectX, RAM and video-memory figures under “recommended.” Steam, by contrast, repeats the Core i5 2.8 GHz, GTX 660/Radeon HD 7870, DirectX 11 and 8 GB RAM requirements in both its minimum and recommended sections. That does not mean Steam has measured identical performance at both tiers; it means the storefront supplies the same published hardware baseline in each section.

Because no FPS target accompanies either page, “minimum” should be read as a compatibility reference, not a promise of a fixed quality level. A faster CPU, newer GPU or more memory may improve results, consistent with Steam’s statement that performance increases with higher-end systems, but the listing does not say how much improvement to expect.

The requirements name discrete cards, not a particular integrated GPU. Some newer integrated graphics solutions can outperform old entry-level discrete cards, but the supplied specifications do not test or certify any of them. It would be inaccurate to declare every integrated-graphics laptop incompatible, and equally inaccurate to promise smooth play on one without a test for that exact model.
If your laptop is below the listed GPU class, treat the outcome as uncertain. Check whether the system has a second, discrete GPU, make sure Windows is using it for the game, and look for a benchmark or trial of the exact computer before spending money on an upgrade. The requirement pages alone cannot convert an unlisted integrated chip into a guaranteed recommendation.

What if your PC is below spec?
First, separate a hard mismatch from an unknown
- Hard mismatch: the computer is on an unsupported operating-system version, is 32-bit rather than x64, or lacks a DirectX 11-capable GPU.
- Unknown result: the machine has an unlisted integrated GPU or a processor that cannot be clearly compared with the Core i5 reference. In this case, the pages simply do not provide enough evidence to predict performance.
- Meets the reference: all key components meet or exceed the relevant storefront’s figures. No replacement is indicated solely by these requirements.
Do not turn an old requirement into a shopping list
A GTX 660 and Radeon HD 7870 are historical reference points in the listing, not advice to purchase those exact cards today. The requirements also do not justify recommending a particular replacement GPU, complete PC or repair utility without knowing your computer, budget and other games. If an upgrade is necessary, choose it based on the full system and current compatibility rather than treating either named card as a new-buy target.

Check the exact edition you plan to use. The official Minecraft store is stricter in its wording about Windows 10 version 18362.0 or higher and x64 architecture. Steam presents Windows 10 (November 2019 Update or newer) as its main operating-system requirement, while also displaying older Windows versions with unsupported-functionality caveats. Steam’s client-support statement from January 1, 2024 further limits the practical relevance of older Windows versions.
Do not merge those statements into a universal claim that Minecraft Dungeons currently supports every version of Windows 7, 8 or 10. The safe approach is to open the requirements on the storefront you will use, verify your OS against that page, and account for the launcher’s own support policy.

What these requirements do not tell you
- They do not specify an expected frame rate at 1080p or any other resolution.
- They do not identify a graphics preset that a minimum-spec machine can hold.
- They do not provide a benchmark for a named laptop, desktop or integrated GPU.
- They do not guarantee that every feature will work on the older Windows versions shown in Steam’s caveat.
Those limits matter when someone asks for a yes-or-no answer about a particular PC. A requirements table can establish whether a configuration reaches the published reference; it cannot establish the exact playability of hardware that was never tested.
Do not confuse Minecraft Dungeons with other Minecraft games
Minecraft Dungeons is a separate game from Minecraft: Java Edition. Java Edition requirements should not be substituted for this game’s GPU, CPU or memory figures. Likewise, do not assume that information about a different sequel or similarly named title applies here. Use the requirements for Minecraft Dungeons and for the storefront edition you will actually install.

In short, Minecraft Dungeons does not demand a premium PC, but it does expect more than the weakest general-purpose laptop. Compare your OS, 64-bit architecture, CPU, discrete DirectX 11 GPU, RAM, video memory and available storage with the specific store listing. Meeting those figures is a sensible compatibility check; it is not a substitute for a benchmark of your exact machine.
