Not clearly, based on YouTube’s published guidance. YouTube supports members-only live streams, but its official documentation does not expressly confirm that continuously looping prerecorded video for 24/7 is an approved use. There is also a significant archive caveat: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Treat access, policy compliance, copyright, archiving, and monetization as separate questions—not as guarantees that come with the members-only setting.
What YouTube’s members-only setting does—and doesn’t establish
YouTube lets eligible creators set a live stream’s visibility to Members only. The creator can allow all paid members to watch or restrict access to specified membership levels. Members are notified as they would be for public broadcasts; non-members can see the stream’s thumbnail and metadata but cannot watch it. See YouTube’s members-only live-stream guidance.
That confirms a supported access setting. It does not expressly answer whether a prerecorded video loop running continuously for 24/7 is permitted. The available official guidance also does not promise uninterrupted operation for any particular setup. Don’t treat the ability to select Members only as approval of every kind of content or duration.
Can you switch a public stream to members-only while live?
Yes. YouTube documents a way to transition an already-live public stream to members-only. You choose which membership levels can watch and select a countdown of 1, 5, 10, 15, 30, or 60 minutes. During the countdown, viewers can be prompted to join. The transition feature is not available on vertical live streams, and YouTube’s documentation describes starting the transition while live—not scheduling it before the stream begins. Details are in the members-only live-stream instructions.

Why a 24/7 stream may not leave a complete archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream that exceeds 12 hours “may not be captured at all.” A continuous 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be relied on to produce a complete replay. If preserving a recording matters, make your own recording or plan separate, shorter broadcasts; neither approach changes YouTube’s stated limit for the archive of a stream that exceeds 12 hours. Read YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.
Check copyright and live-stream rules before looping video
Live-stream content must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. YouTube’s live-stream terms also require the content provider to have the necessary rights to use the material, including music, and to comply with applicable laws and regulations. Those obligations apply to prerecorded material played during a live broadcast too. A video being uploaded by you—or available elsewhere online—does not by itself establish that you have the required rights. See YouTube’s Terms of Service and YouTube’s live-streaming guidance.

Will a looped members-only stream be monetized?
Being able to start a members-only stream is separate from meeting monetization requirements. YouTube’s channel monetization policy applies to live streams as well as videos. It requires original, authentic content and says highly repetitive or mass-produced content without meaningful creative, educational, or other value is not eligible. Reused content is a distinct concern when material is republished without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. That is not a categorical finding that every looped stream violates policy: YouTube’s guidance does not decide every individual case, and channel review considers the channel overall. The policy page records a clarification dated July 15, 2025, that repetitive or mass-produced material falls under its “inauthentic content” policy. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
Choose a format around the actual trade-offs
| Question | Members-only live stream | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Who can watch? | All paid members or selected membership levels, according to the visibility settings. | Non-members may see the thumbnail and metadata but cannot watch. |
| Can access change while live? | A public stream can transition to members-only with a selected countdown. | The documented transition must be initiated while live; it is unavailable for vertical live streams. |
| Will a 24/7 broadcast be archived? | YouTube may automatically archive streams under 12 hours. | A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all; don’t assume a complete archive. |
| Is a prerecorded loop approved or monetizable? | The cited official guidance does not expressly resolve a continuous 24/7 prerecorded loop. | Check rights, originality, meaningful value, and applicable YouTube policies separately. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you decide to run a prerecorded YouTube stream continuously, StreamNeo is one way to keep it going without leaving a computer on at home: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. This handles playback continuity; it does not establish YouTube policy approval, copyright clearance, archive capture, or monetization eligibility.
