Sony canceled its proposed Steam–PlayStation Network account-linking requirement on May 6, 2024; PC Gamer later reported that the regional restrictions had been removed in June 2025. But a September 2026 report described a separate, temporary UK Steam purchase-listing error, and the available sources do not establish current availability in every country or confirm that UK issue was fixed.
Is Helldivers 2 still unavailable on Steam in 177 countries?
Not on the basis of the old restriction. The 177-country figure describes the regional sale restriction reported around the 2024 PSN-linking controversy; it is not a current count of countries where the game cannot be bought.
On June 13, 2025, PC Gamer reported that Helldivers 2 was among four Sony games whose Steam regional restrictions had been removed. That dated report indicates a broad change, but it does not verify the live store listing in every country. Check the Steam page from your own country before buying or making plans around availability: listings can change, and the reviewed sources do not provide a current country-by-country matrix. PC Gamer’s June 2025 report
What happened with PSN linking and the country restriction?
The proposed account-linking requirement and the Steam regional restrictions were connected in the 2024 controversy, but they were separate developments: canceling the requirement did not itself prove that every regional restriction disappeared immediately.

Why might Steam still show Helldivers 2 as unavailable?
A temporary UK listing problem was reported in September 2026
On September 21, 2026, MeriStation reported that Helldivers 2 and other games had disappeared from UK Steam purchases the previous week, though existing owners could still play. The publication quoted Sony Interactive Entertainment acknowledging an error affecting the availability of certain titles on Steam in the UK and saying it was working with Valve to resolve it. The report does not confirm that the issue was fixed, so check the UK storefront directly for the current listing. MeriStation’s September 2026 report
Your local store listing is the decisive check
Regional purchase availability can differ from the general status described in a news report. If the Steam page does not offer a purchase option, contact Steam Support about the purchase issue; Arrowhead’s support guidance directs Steam purchase problems to Steam. A PSN account or a change in account settings is not established as a way to bypass a regional sale restriction.

Would buying the PS5 version solve a Steam availability problem?
Only if you want to play on PS5 and the game is available through your local PlayStation storefront. A PS5 purchase is a separate platform copy, not a way to acquire the Steam edition. Arrowhead says there is no cross-buy or cross-progression between platform copies, and linking accounts does not transfer game data between PC and PS5. Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2 FAQ
Before choosing between platforms, check the local store listing and the online-play requirements for the platform you will use. Steam players do not need PS Plus; PlayStation console players do need PS Plus for online play.
