If you can’t drop or throw a Victory Crown in Fortnite, the cause is not confirmed: Epic’s available support guidance covers general item-interaction problems, not a Crown-specific bug or rule. Check whether other inventory items work, then review custom Sprint and Use bindings before concluding that the latest update changed Crown behavior.
Is the latest update responsible?
There is no confirmation in Epic’s available update notes that the latest update deliberately removed Crown dropping or throwing. Epic’s v42.30 release notes date that update to October 1, 2026, and do not mention a Victory Crown drop or throw change. That omission does not prove no related change occurred.

Epic’s status page showed Fortnite operational on October 7, 2026, with the October 1 v42.30 scheduled downtime marked completed. An operational status can help rule out a broad service incident, but it does not rule out a localized, playlist-specific, or match-phase-specific problem. Check Fortnite’s status page and Epic’s current official community and known-issue channels for updates.
First check whether the problem affects other items
Try the same drop or throw action with another inventory item in the same mode and match phase. This comparison helps distinguish a general interaction problem from one that appears limited to the Crown; it is a diagnostic check, not a confirmed explanation.

- If other inventory interactions fail too, investigate controls and general interaction behavior first.
- If other items work but the Crown does not, record that as a Crown-specific symptom; the available official guidance does not establish why it happens.
Review custom Sprint and Use bindings
Epic Games Player Support states: “We have confirmed that using custom bindings such as the Sprint and Use buttons on the same input can lead to issues with interaction.” Epic’s guidance is about item pickup or interaction generally, not Victory Crown dropping specifically. Its temporary recommendation is to restore key binds to their defaults as a check. See Epic’s item pickup or interaction troubleshooting article.
- Review your Sprint and Use controls and check whether custom bindings place them on the same input.
- As a temporary troubleshooting check, restore key binds to default and test the same action again.
- Compare the result with your previous setup. A change in behavior may help isolate an input issue, but resetting controls is not a guaranteed fix for Crown dropping or throwing.
Compare match phase, playlist, and input setup
Test deliberately rather than changing several variables at once. Note whether the symptom occurs on the pregame island, during an active match, or in both, and whether it changes in another playlist. Keep track of the platform and input device as well as whether other inventory items can be dropped or thrown. The sources available do not establish confirmed outcomes for each combination.

Some players reported in June 2026 that they could not drop Crowns on the pregame island, including players on PS5. These are anecdotal reports, not proof of a current widespread bug, a platform-specific restriction, or an intentional game rule. See the player discussion.
What Epic says about Victory Crowns
Epic’s Victory Crown guidance explains how players obtain and use Crowns: a player who wins a match carries a Crown into the next game automatically, and a player can collect one from the loot of an eliminated Crown wearer. Wearing a Crown earns bonus XP and unlocks the Crowning Achievement emote, which tracks Crowned wins. That guidance does not settle whether players can manually drop or throw a Crown.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

What to note if the issue continues
- Platform and input device
- Playlist and whether you were on the pregame island or in an active match
- Whether you attempted to drop or throw the Crown, and what happened
- Whether other inventory items could be dropped or thrown in the same situation
- Whether Sprint and Use were on custom bindings, and whether testing default bindings changed anything
Use those details when checking current official community or known-issue posts. Epic’s support guidance advises checking its status and official channels for updates, but does not provide a Crown-specific reporting template.
