To finish Canvas the Castle, question all five people at Castle Chorrol, find three pieces of evidence, then confront Chanel in the private quarters. If you want her confession, raise her disposition to at least 70 before you speak with her. Your final report determines whether Chanel is removed from court or receives your protection—and whether your reward comes now or later.
How to start Canvas the Castle
Enter Castle Chorrol’s Great Hall and speak with Countess Arriana Valga. She explains that a portrait of her late husband has been stolen and asks you to investigate.

Speak with each of these people before searching for evidence:

Their accounts do not provide enough evidence by themselves to make a sound accusation. Continue the investigation by locating the three clues.

Find the three clues
- Paint-stained carpet: Search beneath the dining table in the Great Hall.
- Unusual painting: Look behind crates in the lower west tower.
- Painting supplies: Search the lectern in Chanel’s room in the private quarters.
Get Chanel’s confession
After collecting all three clues, confront Chanel in the private quarters. She confesses only when her disposition toward you is at least 70. If it is lower, use the persuasion minigame to raise it, then speak with her again.
Choose what to report to the Countess
Return to Countess Valga after the investigation and decide whether to expose Chanel, accuse Orgnolf, or protect Chanel. The practical trade-off is between immediate rewards and a delayed painting:

There is no universally best report: exposing Chanel provides the listed gold and gemstones, while protecting her trades a smaller immediate reward for the later painting.

If you cannot interact with the clues
A Steam Community discussion from April 2025 reports that some players could not interact with evidence before speaking to all suspects and reaching the clue-gathering stage. This is a player report, not official patch documentation. If a clue will not activate, finish the witness conversations and check that the quest has advanced to collecting evidence.
