The list is an editorial guide—not an official ranking—and the author cautions that there is no absolute tier list. Use it as a starting point, then weigh position and the needs of your team.
How to read this tier list
The tiers below reproduce Pocket Gamer author Mihail Katsoris’s placements in a page updated October 5, 2026 for version 1.9.0. The author says the assessment considers stats, skills, and available options, and notes that the game has more midfielders and forwards than goalkeepers. The source explicitly frames the ranking as subjective: “That said, there’s no absolute tier list.” New characters and updates can change the meta.
S is the highest tier, followed by A and B. These are relative editorial placements, not measured performance results: the page provides no win rates or numerical stat comparisons. Rarity also does not determine tier on its own; Shingo Takasugi and Shinji Sanada are both SR players placed in S.

Notable S-tier skill descriptions
- Tsubasa Ozora: Pocket Gamer describes him as a complete midfielder with dribbling, passing, and shooting strengths. His “Undead Wings” skill is said to raise technique and dribbling attributes when he uses a skill.
- Jun Misugi: The page cites dribbling, intercepting, and shooting strengths, and says his passive makes him arguably the game’s best dribbling midfielder.
- Taro Misaki: The author describes him as able to carry the ball forward, make a final pass, or score. His “Graceful Rythm” passive is described as an auto-dribble triggered against a tackle; it temporarily raises technique and buffs his shot attribute after a successful dribble.
A tier: solid options to support a strong core
The author characterizes A-tier players as above average and solid choices, especially when paired with strong S-tier players.
| Player | Position | Rarity |
|---|---|---|
| Mitsuru Sano | FW | SSR |
| Taichi Nakanishi | GK | SR |
| Masao Nakayama | DF | SR |
| Koji Nishio | DF | SR |
| Mamoru Izawa | MF | SR |
| Hajime Taki | FW | SR |
Notable A-tier skill descriptions
- Mitsuru Sano: The page calls him a one-touch striker. It says his “Spiritual Instant Shot” passive increases his guaranteed goal chance when he receives an aerial ball and uses the move.
- Mamoru Izawa: Described as a defensive-minded midfielder, his “Aerial Sentinel” ability is said to increase stamina recovery after winning an aerial ball.
B tier: lower-ranked choices in this snapshot
Pocket Gamer calls these players average relative to the available alternatives and advises against building the team core around them. That is a judgment within this particular ranking, not a claim that they cannot fill a roster need.
Rank #2

| Player | Position | Rarity |
|---|---|---|
| Tetsuo Ishida | MF | SR |
| Kuniaki Narita | MF | SR |
| Takeshi Kishida | MF | SR |
| Kazumasa Oda | FW | SR |
| Kazuki Sorimachi | FW | SR |
| Teppei Kisugi | FW | SR |
| Yuzo Morisaki | GK | SR |
Two specific caveats
- Tetsuo Ishida: The author says his dribble attribute briefly increases each time he receives the ball, up to three times, making him a possible possession-recycling option.
- Yuzo Morisaki: Pocket Gamer describes him as the weakest goalkeeper option in this ranking. That does not establish how he compares in every mode or team setup.
How to apply the placements to your team
- Start with the role you need. Check the position column before comparing tiers. A highly placed player still has to fit a need at forward (FW), midfielder (MF), defender (DF), or goalkeeper (GK).
- Use rarity as context, not a shortcut. The ranking places two SR players in S tier, so an SSR label alone does not guarantee a higher placement.
- Consider the described ability in context. The source highlights different roles: Misugi’s dribbling, Misaki’s ball progression and passing options, and Izawa’s stamina recovery after an aerial win. Choose according to what your lineup needs rather than treating one skill description as a universal advantage.
- Check the version before relying on the list. This page reflects version 1.9.0 as of its October 5, 2026 update. Later balance changes or releases may alter the rankings.
Skill and balance descriptions here are attributed to Pocket Gamer’s article; they have not been independently tested in-game for this guide. For the source’s full list and any later revision, see Pocket Gamer’s Captain Tsubasa: Ace tier list.
