If Card-en-Ciel launches and immediately closes on your Steam Deck, work through updates, a restart, and third-party app checks before changing compatibility settings or reinstalling. These are general Steam Deck troubleshooting steps—not seven fixes confirmed specifically for Card-en-Ciel. SteamDB lists the game as Playable, but that status is not a guarantee that every Deck, SteamOS version, or installation will run without crashes.
What is known about Card-en-Ciel on Steam Deck?
Card-en-Ciel is a 2024 game by INTI CREATES CO., LTD. Its Steam store page lists Windows 10 or later as the PC operating system requirement and Steam Cloud among its features. SteamDB reports that it runs successfully on SteamOS and has a Steam Deck rating of Playable; its listed compatibility test date is 2025-06-10. SteamDB also notes small in-game text and good performance with default graphics settings. Compatibility information can change, so check the current details on the game’s Steam library or store page. Valve explains that Playable games may require manual adjustments. Neither listing rules out an individual crash. SteamDB compatibility details; Card-en-Ciel on Steam; Valve’s Steam Deck compatibility guidance.
A player in a Steam Community discussion described a launch-to-desktop issue this way: “As soon I click play on steam, the game launches and immediately closes?” That is one player’s report, not evidence that all affected players have the same symptom or that the game has a widespread crash problem. No quantified crash rate or developer-confirmed cause is established in the available sources. Steam Community: “Game crashing on startup”.
Try these seven steps, from lower risk to more disruptive
1. Install SteamOS updates and restart
On the Deck, press the Steam button and open Settings > System. Install any available system update, then restart the device and try the game again. Valve’s first-step guidance for system instability is: “To address issues with system instability, install any available system updates and restart your Steam Deck.” This is general Deck advice, not a Card-en-Ciel-specific diagnosis. 2. Close third-party apps installed through Desktop Mode
If you installed apps or utilities outside the standard Steam interface, close or temporarily disable them, restart the Deck, and test Card-en-Ciel again. Valve recommends closing third-party applications when troubleshooting instability in Steam applications. This is a reversible check: if it makes no difference, you can re-enable the apps.
3. Check the game’s current compatibility details
Open Card-en-Ciel in your Steam library and check its compatibility information, or look at the game’s Steam store page. Valve says these details are available in the library or store. SteamDB’s retrieved metadata says Playable, but the rating is not a crash-free guarantee and may not reflect later changes. If Steam displays a current compatibility note for your Deck, use that as the most relevant status for your installation.

4. Try the latest Proton compatibility tool
For this game only, open Library > Card-en-Ciel > gear icon (Manage) > Properties > Compatibility, enable Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool, and select the latest available Proton version. Test the game, then return to the setting and disable the override if it does not help. Valve’s guide presents the latest Proton tool as an app troubleshooting option; it does not identify a Proton version as a confirmed Card-en-Ciel fix. Valve also notes that forcing Proton can prompt Steam to download a Windows version when only a Linux version is installed; the game’s Steam listing specifies Windows PC requirements, so do not assume that scenario applies here. 5. Lower graphics settings if the crash happens during rendering or play
If Card-en-Ciel closes after gameplay begins or during a visually demanding moment, lower its graphics settings and test again. Valve lists graphics adjustments as a general stability or performance troubleshooting option. SteamDB reports good performance with the game’s default graphics configuration, so lowering settings is a diagnostic test—not a required Deck tweak or a demonstrated fix for launch crashes.

6. Verify the installed game files
In Steam, open Library > Card-en-Ciel > gear icon (Manage) > Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files. Let Steam complete the check, then launch the game again. This is a reversible library check, but the cited sources do not establish it as a Card-en-Ciel-specific remedy. In the surfaced community discussion, one player’s verification attempt did not resolve their startup problem.
7. Reinstall only after the other checks
If the crash continues, reinstalling is a later option, not a guaranteed fix. Before removing the game, confirm that your save is synced or otherwise backed up; the Steam store page lists Steam Cloud, but verify that your save has actually synchronized before relying on it. One player in the community discussion reported that reinstalling resolved their issue after file verification failed, while another poster described inconsistent results involving reinstalling or using another drive. Those individual reports do not establish a general cause or success rate. Avoid changing drives as a presumed fix.

When to contact Steam Support
If the Deck itself remains unstable after installing updates and restarting, Valve advises escalating persistent stability issues to Steam Support. When you contact support, include what happens when you press Play, whether the crash occurs before or during gameplay, the SteamOS update status, and which troubleshooting steps you tried. That information helps distinguish a game launch failure from wider system instability. Valve’s Steam Deck Software Info & Troubleshooting Guide.
