Carter Lipscomb, a longtime game-industry professional known at Iron Galaxy Studios as “Doctor Business,” died in February 2025. Iron Galaxy confirmed his death, and GamesBeat reported it on February 20. The reports did not disclose a cause of death.
Who was Carter Lipscomb?
Lipscomb spent nearly 35 years in the games business, working in quality assurance, marketing, PlayStation public relations and business development, according to Game Developer. At Iron Galaxy, colleagues knew him as “Doctor Business,” a nickname that reflected his work cultivating relationships across the industry.
Iron Galaxy described him as “our emissary to the world,” adding that partners often encountered Lipscomb first. The studio also remembered his familiar greeting: “Hey, Brother!”
Carter Lipscomb’s career in games
Early work at Maxis and GameTek
Game Developer reports that Lipscomb began in quality assurance at Maxis, working on the 1990 game SimEarth: The Living Planet. He continued in QA before taking a marketing director role at GameTek in 1994.

PlayStation public relations
Lipscomb joined Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2007. Game Developer describes him as a PR director for PlayStation platforms and products through 2018. GamesBeat characterizes his Sony work as 11 years as director of publisher relations. The accounts use different role descriptions and durations; broadly, they place him in PlayStation/SIE public relations during that period.
Business development at Iron Galaxy
After Sony, Lipscomb joined Iron Galaxy as a business development specialist, where he was also known as “Doctor Business.” GamesBeat reported that his LinkedIn profile listed him in that role at the studio since 2019. His work there centered on connecting the studio with partners and the wider games industry.

What happened to Carter Lipscomb?
Iron Galaxy announced that Lipscomb had died, and GamesBeat reported the news on February 20, 2025. Game Developer published an obituary the following day. The reports did not disclose a cause of death.
GamesBeat mentioned Lipscomb’s history of heart disease and an earlier collapse during a run from which he was resuscitated. Those details do not establish what caused his death, and no cause was reported.

How colleagues remembered him
Iron Galaxy’s remembrance focused on Lipscomb’s place in the studio community and the relationships he built: “For many years, Carter was our emissary to the world.” The post also recalled the warmth of his greeting, “Hey, Brother!”
Former Iron Galaxy CEO Adam Boyes, quoted by Game Developer, wrote: “I loved him so much, and we were all so lucky to have met him and for him to have blessed our lives.” Former SIE head Shawn Layden also paid tribute, calling Lipscomb “a brother” and “a light so bright our eyes may never adjust to the dark.”

A family-posted statement reproduced by Game Developer reflected Lipscomb’s own affectionate humor: “Whether you knew me as ‘Doctor Business,’ ‘The Boss of the Special Sauce,’ or just a ‘brother from another mother,’ I truly cherished every experience we’ve shared and every laugh we’ve had.”
