YouTube reported that the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer drew more than 93 million views in its first 24 hours in December 2023. GamesBeat later reported that fan-made reaction videos drew more than 192 million views over that same period. The figures measure separate kinds of viewing—not a direct comparison of unique viewers—and show how creator content can extend a major game announcement beyond its official trailer.

GTA VI: the trailer and reactions drew separate waves of viewing

YouTube said the official “GTA VI Trailer 1” received more than 93 million views in 24 hours, a record at the time for a 24-hour debut of a non-music video. The figure came from YouTube Data, globally, for December 4–5, 2023. YouTube’s December 5, 2023 account also said videos related to GTA VI accumulated more than 250 million views globally between December 4 and 5.

Those totals describe different scopes: the 93 million counts views of the official trailer, while the 250 million covers GTA VI-related videos across YouTube. Separately, GamesBeat reported that fan-created reaction videos received more than 192 million views in the same 24-hour period. That reported reaction-video total exceeded the trailer’s own views, but it should not be added to the broader related-video total: the categories may overlap, and the sources do not establish unique viewers or incremental reach.

Creators participate in more than trailer reactions

YouTube described a wider GTA creator ecosystem that includes playthroughs, machinima, mods, roleplay, car meets, and real-world-inspired content. Reactions are one visible format within a larger fan culture that can keep a game in conversation through different kinds of videos.

Fallout: search interest rose around the TV adaptation

GamesBeat reported that search interest in Fallout around the Amazon Prime adaptation’s release was roughly 10 times the average over the previous five years. That is a search-trend comparison tied to the show’s release—not a count of YouTube views, and not evidence that creators caused the increase. The available figure does not isolate the effects of the adaptation, creator videos, other promotion, or existing franchise interest.

The contrast with GTA VI matters: the GTA figures count video views over a defined 24-hour window, whereas the Fallout figure compares search interest around a television release with a five-year average. Together, they illustrate distinct ways attention can gather around a game franchise, including when it crosses into another medium.

What the reported fandom figures suggest—and what they do not

GamesBeat’s June 27, 2024 report, updated June 18, 2025, summarized figures from YouTube research about U.S. fandom and video participation. It reported that 85% of surveyed U.S. fans aged 14–44 identified as fans, and that 80% of those fans watched YouTube content about their fandom at least weekly. The report also said 65% of Gen Z respondents aged 14–24 identified as video content creators, while 8% said they professionally made money from fan content. These are figures as reported by GamesBeat from YouTube research, not independently verified here; the cited account does not establish that they describe gaming audiences specifically.

YouTube Gaming Product Marketing Manager Alex Gomez described creators’ role in its December 2023 post: “Our Creators have helped bring the games to life for millions of fans, and they have created a vibrant, creative community that continues to grow and evolve.” The quotation captures YouTube’s view of that community, while the viewing and search figures above show the different measures used to describe attention.

A games crossover beyond publishers

GamesBeat also reported that the Los Angeles Chargers announced their 2024–2025 schedule using The Sims to reach younger audiences. It is an example of a game serving as a cultural platform outside a game publisher’s own promotion; the cited report does not provide campaign results.

How to read these case studies

  • Video views are not sales. The reported totals do not establish game purchases, player growth, or incremental commercial impact.
  • Different metrics answer different questions. Trailer views, reaction-video views, broader related-video views, and search interest are not interchangeable.
  • Timing is not proof of cause. Fallout search interest rose around the adaptation’s release, but the figures do not quantify the contribution of creators or any other single factor.
  • The audience totals are historical. The GTA figures concern December 4–5, 2023, while the Fallout search comparison concerns attention around the show’s release; none should be read as current audience totals.
