You must defeat Medusa, Joan, and The Fallen, obtain their three emblems, enter the Catacombs, and reach the scripted encounter with Death. Once that sequence is complete, the route opens and previously visited areas are added retroactively.
If you have already reached that checkpoint, the next question is which travel network you are using. Mirrors of Life and Ferryman Wharfs are separate systems: a Mirror requires a direct kneel or interact action, while a Wharf requires a conversation with the Ferryman and then a blue-door connection. Save rooms, ordinary doors, and simply walking past a Mirror do not activate either system.

Start with the progression check
The most common reason every destination appears locked is that the story gate has not been cleared. Fast travel is not available from the beginning, and there is no setting that bypasses this requirement in the unmodified game.

- Defeat Medusa.
- Defeat Joan.
- Defeat The Fallen.
- Collect the three emblems awarded for those victories.
- Enter the Catacombs.
- Reach the scripted Death encounter in the Catacombs sequence.
Games.GG’s 2026 guide describes the Death encounter as the point at which the Boatman route becomes available. The guide also reports that the route is not missable: after it opens, zones you visited earlier are added to the appropriate travel lists. You therefore do not need to discover every destination again after unlocking the system.

How to tell whether this is your problem
- If you have not entered the Catacombs or have not completed the scripted Death scene, a locked list is expected behavior.
- If you have completed that scene but have never activated a particular Mirror, that Mirror will not appear in the Mirror list.
- If you are trying to cross between regions, a Mirror list will not help; regional crossings use Wharfs instead.
Do not treat a locked list before the Death checkpoint as a broken save. Continue the main progression, then test travel again. The game enables the route at the story checkpoint rather than when you first encounter a travel object.
Mirrors and Wharfs are different networks
The two systems look related because both involve the Boatman route, but they have different activation rules and destination scopes. Their lists do not merge.

A save room is not automatically a Mirror or a Wharf. Even when a save room is located close to one, it remains a separate room for travel purposes. Likewise, a blue door only has Wharf meaning after the Ferryman route has been enabled; it is not a universal teleport door.
Fix a Mirror that is missing from the list
Use this procedure for the symptom “my Mirror of Life does not show a destination.” It assumes the Catacombs and Death gate has already been completed.

- Return to the physical Mirror. The destination must be a visible Mirror of Life, not merely a save point or a decorative object.
- Position yourself in front of it. Move close enough that your character is facing the Mirror directly. Standing beside it or at an angle can leave the interaction inactive.
- Use the configured interaction or kneel input. Press the control assigned in your current layout and hold it until the travel hub opens. A quick tap or walking into the object is not the registration action.
- Exit the hub normally. Close the travel interface instead of leaving the room during the interaction. The node should now be registered.
- Open a second activated Mirror. Check whether the newly registered location appears in the Mirror destination list. Only activated Mirrors are listed.
The important distinction is registration versus proximity. You can pass a Mirror during exploration without activating it, and that does not make it a destination. The game records the node only after the explicit interaction completes.
If no prompt appears
First verify that you are using the correct control for the current input configuration. The relevant action may be labeled interact or kneel, depending on your layout. Face the Mirror, hold the input for the full interaction, and wait for the hub rather than releasing immediately.
If the object still does nothing, check the progression condition again. A Mirror can be visible before the Boatman route is available, but visibility does not mean the travel interface is unlocked. Complete the Catacombs/Death sequence before treating the missing prompt as a technical fault.
A community report mentioning Eleanor and kneeling is anecdotal evidence, not an official mechanic statement. It can help identify the intended input when a player is unsure which button to try, but it does not replace the story and registration requirements above.

Fix a Ferryman Wharf and blue door that do nothing
Wharfs are for regional movement. They are not alternate Mirrors, and a Wharf destination will never be added merely by activating a nearby Mirror.
- Locate the Ferryman at the Wharf. Confirm that you are at an actual Wharf rather than an ordinary shoreline room or a save room.
- Speak with the Ferryman. The conversation enables the Wharf route. If you have not completed the conversation, the blue-door connection may remain inactive.
- Use a blue door. After the route is enabled, enter through the blue door associated with the Wharf. A standard door is not a Wharf link.
- Select a regional destination. Wharf travel is hub-to-hub. It does not expose every individual Mirror you have activated.
The “Ferryman is present, but the blue door does nothing” symptom usually means one of two things: the story gate has not been completed, or the Ferryman conversation has not enabled that Wharf. Recheck both conditions before trying to register Mirrors again.
Why a save room or ordinary door cannot substitute for travel
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse places several room types close together, which can make the systems seem inconsistent. A save room records progress but is not automatically a travel node. An ordinary door changes rooms but is not a regional connection. A Mirror and a Wharf each have their own object, activation action, and destination list.

- Mirror of Life: activate it directly with the interact or kneel input, then use the Mirror network for individual nodes.
- Wharf: speak with the Ferryman, then use blue doors for regional hub travel.
When checking a location, identify the object first. Asking why “the door” does not show a Mirror destination often starts the diagnosis on the wrong network.

What each network can and cannot reach
Neither system is a universal map teleport. Mirror travel is limited to Mirrors you have activated. Wharf travel is limited to the regional hubs made available through the Ferryman route. A location can therefore be reachable in one sense but absent from the list you are viewing:
- An activated Mirror may appear in the Mirror list but not as a Wharf destination.
- A regional Wharf may be usable through a blue door but not appear as an individual Mirror node.
- A zone visited before fast travel opened is added retroactively only after the story checkpoint; before then, the locked state is intentional.
Use the network that matches the movement you want: choose a Mirror for a known activated node, and choose a Wharf when you need to cross between regions.
A practical symptom-to-fix checklist

Optional Windows mod for a direct Mirror menu
Windows players using the Steam version have an optional mod called Belmont Fast Travel. It adds a direct menu between Mirrors that have already been used. At a registered Mirror, hold Up, select a destination, and confirm.
Requirements and limits
- The mod is for Windows and requires BepInEx.
- It was tested with Steam build 25975867.
- It exposes Mirrors that you have already used; it does not create unvisited nodes.
- It does not unlock the story, skip the Catacombs requirement, or replace the Death encounter.
Use this only if you are comfortable installing third-party Windows modifications and maintaining a matching game build. The mod changes menu access, not the underlying progression rules. On an unmodified installation, follow the Mirror and Wharf procedures in this guide.

Do not confuse launch/display problems with travel gating
Konami has published a separate PC notice for a launch failure associated with V-Sync being disabled and Unlimited FPS. Its workaround is to lower the monitor refresh rate below 60 Hz, enable V-Sync, close the game, and then restore the original refresh rate.
That procedure addresses a game that fails to launch or behaves incorrectly at startup. It does not unlock a destination list, activate a Mirror, or enable a Wharf. If the game launches normally and only fast travel is unavailable, use the progression and network checks above instead of changing display settings.
Recommended order for resolving the problem
- Confirm that you have completed the Catacombs sequence and the scripted Death encounter.
- Decide whether you need an individual Mirror node or a regional Wharf crossing.
- For a Mirror, perform the full kneel/interact registration at the physical object.
- For a Wharf, speak with the Ferryman and use the blue door.
- Ignore save rooms and ordinary doors when looking for travel destinations.
- Only after those checks should you investigate a PC-specific issue or consider the optional Windows mod.
This order separates intentional progression locks from activation mistakes and from unrelated launch problems. It also prevents spending time looking for a Mirror destination when the route you need is a Wharf connection.
