Castlevania Dominus Collection brings three Nintendo DS-era action-adventure games together with two versions of the arcade game Haunted Castle. It is a strong choice for players seeking substantial exploration-focused Castlevania games, with rewind, quick saves, configurable screen layouts, and archival extras. Its most notable platform-specific draw is optional touchscreen control on Switch; check your own platform’s regional price before buying.
What’s in Castlevania Dominus Collection?
Konami’s collection contains five games: three titles first released for Nintendo DS between 2005 and 2008, the original arcade Haunted Castle, and Haunted Castle Revisited, a substantially redesigned version. The three DS games are the main attraction for players looking for exploration, combat, and character progression; the arcade games offer a different, more compact style of Castlevania. Konami’s product page lists the full lineup and collection features.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Soma Cruz returns after Aria of Sorrow. Its defining progression hook is capturing enemy souls and combining them to create weapons, giving combat and exploration a collectible-driven layer.
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
Jonathan Morris and Charlotte Aulin bring different abilities, and players can switch between them with a button press. The paired-character design gives this entry a distinct tactical rhythm.

- LIMITED EDITION: Special Limited Run physical release for Nintendo Switch collectors and series enthusiasts

- PLATFORM COMPATIBILITY: Exclusively designed and optimized for the Nintendo Switch gaming system
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
Shanoa gathers glyphs through exploration and combat, then uses them as her principal tools. Its glyph system is the key reason to choose this game if you want a different progression and combat feel from the other two.
Haunted Castle and Haunted Castle Revisited
The collection includes the original arcade Haunted Castle and Haunted Castle Revisited, which redesigns and rebalances that game. Revisited is the more approachable entry point for players curious about the arcade game; the original preserves a deliberately difficult historical version.

What do the reviews say?
Nintendo Life gave the Switch version 9/10. The review praises the three DS games, Haunted Castle Revisited, the archival illustrations, music and manuals, and the save and rewind options. It also highlights Switch touchscreen controls and the ability to rearrange screen layouts. The reviewer considers the original Haunted Castle a weak inclusion. That is one publication’s Switch-specific judgment, not a cross-platform professional consensus. Read Nintendo Life’s full review.
Steam user sentiment is a separate and changing signal. On October 7, 2026, Steam displayed 94% positive English reviews from 1,452 total reviews, and 87% positive recent reviews from 56 reviews in the previous 30 days. These are user-review aggregates, not professional review scores, and they can change as new reviews arrive. The Steam listing also identifies single-player, achievements, Steam Cloud, Family Sharing, six interface and subtitle languages, and PC system requirements.

Which platform should you choose?
Konami lists Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series X|S as platforms. The collection recreates games originally designed around the DS’s dual screens, so screen presentation is worth considering alongside controls. Konami describes customizable screen layouts, while Nintendo Life specifically notes that players can rearrange them. The evidence cited here does not establish a broad performance advantage for one platform over another.
- Choose Switch if touch input matters: Nintendo Life identifies optional touchscreen controls as a benefit of the Switch version. That specific advantage may suit players who want a more DS-like way to interact.
- Choose by game mechanics: soul-based weapon creation in Dawn of Sorrow, two-character switching in Portrait of Ruin, and glyph gathering in Order of Ecclesia are the clearest ways to decide which game will appeal most.
- Check screen layout on your platform: the original games used two screens. Consider whether the available arrangement makes the information comfortable to follow on your display.
- Compare your local storefront: regional prices and current sales can differ, so confirm the price and promotion in the store where you plan to buy.
What quality-of-life features and extras are included?
Konami lists rewind, quick save and load at any time, customizable screen layouts, and selectable regional versions. The collection also includes a gallery of artwork and materials, an encyclopedia, and a music player with playlist support. Rewind and quick saves can make it easier to revisit difficult sections; regional versions and archival content add context and replay options beyond simply launching the games.

Nintendo Life’s review names US, EU, and Japanese versions for Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin, with Korean also available for Order of Ecclesia. The review’s regional-version details are specific to its coverage and should not be read as a claim that every game has the same set of versions.

The collection is not limited to longtime fans: each of its three DS games offers an exploration-based action-adventure with a different central mechanic. In a September 18, 2024 interview with Xbox Wire, collection producer Tsutomu Taniguchi said the team could not agree on a single best first game, and suggested that players would likely enjoy them in any order. If you want a chronological starting point, he suggested release order. The three DS games originally appeared between 2005 and 2008. Read the Xbox Wire interview for his comments on the collection’s goals and play order.

Price and availability
Konami’s US product page lists a price of $24.99. That is a US list price, not a guarantee of what the collection costs in another region or during a sale. Check the live storefront for your platform and country before purchase. The Steam listing may show a regional promotion; a sale price shown in one currency or region should not be treated as a universal current price.
Konami lists the collection’s release date as August 27, 2024. Its product page records a Steam stability and bug patch dated October 23, 2025, and a Switch rating-information update dated September 3, 2025; Konami says the latter did not change the content. Those listing notes do not establish comparative performance across platforms.
