Before replacing anything, identify the application that is requesting chd_wmp.dll.

  • Does the error appear when opening S-EYE, a USB microscope utility, or industrial-camera software?
  • Is chd_wmp.dll missing from the same folder as S-EYE.exe or seye2.exe?
  • Did the problem begin after reinstalling S-EYE, an antivirus alert, disk cleanup, a Windows upgrade, or moving the application folder?
  • Does Windows say the file is missing, that the specified module cannot be found, that an entry point is missing, or that the file is not designed to run on Windows?
  • Is the camera application 32-bit? Older S-EYE installations commonly use a folder under C:Program Files (x86).
  • Are Microsoft Visual C++ and .NET Framework prerequisites installed?

chd_wmp.dll is associated with S-EYE, a Windows application for viewing, recording, and measuring images from USB and industrial cameras. It is not a Windows system DLL and is not a documented Windows Media Player component.

The safest repair is to restore the complete S-EYE installation from the camera manufacturer. Do not begin by copying an isolated DLL into System32.

  1. Press Win + E to open File Explorer.
  2. Search the drive where the camera software is installed for chd_wmp.dll.
  3. Check whether it is beside the S-EYE executable and other application files.
  4. Right-click the DLL, choose Properties, and review the Location field.
  5. In the same folder, look for S-EYE.exe, seye2.exe, or another camera-software executable.
  6. Start the application again and note which executable appears in the error message, if Windows identifies one.

Known S-EYE installation inventories place the file in locations similar to:

C:Program Files (x86)S-EYES-EYECHD_WMP.dll
C:Program FilesYangWangS-EYE 2.0CHD_WMP.dll

The exact folder depends on the S-EYE package and camera vendor. A copy in C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, a temporary directory, or a random download folder is not automatically trustworthy.

If the file is present beside the correct executable, do not replace it immediately. “The specified module could not be found” can mean that a dependency of chd_wmp.dll is missing even when the DLL itself exists.

2. Repair or reinstall S-EYE from the camera manufacturer

This is the most likely fix when the file is absent, damaged, or removed during an incomplete uninstall.

Try Windows repair first

On Windows 11:

  1. Open Start > Settings.
  2. Select Apps > Installed apps.
  3. Search for S-EYE.
  4. Select the three-dot menu beside it.
  5. Choose Advanced options.
  6. Select Repair, if the option is available.
  7. Restart Windows and launch the camera application.

Windows 10 may show a Repair option under Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features after selecting the application.

If repair is unavailable or does not restore the program:

  1. Close S-EYE and disconnect the camera.
  2. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  3. Select S-EYE and choose Uninstall.
  4. Restart Windows.
  5. Reinstall the complete package supplied by the camera manufacturer.
  6. Reconnect the camera only after the installer requests it, if applicable.
  7. Start S-EYE and test live image display.

HAYEAR has published S-EYE packages including S-EYE_Setup-1.4.7.621 and S-EYE_Setup-1.6.0.11. Use the package intended for your camera model rather than mixing files from different S-EYE releases. Replacing only chd_wmp.dll can create a version or architecture mismatch.

If an older vendor installer refuses to run on current Windows, record the camera model, S-EYE package name, Windows version, and complete error text before contacting the camera manufacturer for a current installer.

3. Install the correct Visual C++ and .NET prerequisites

A 32-bit application needs 32-bit dependencies even when Windows itself is 64-bit.

Some S-EYE 1.6 installation files include msvcp120.dll and msvcr120.dll, which are associated with Visual C++ 2013-era software. S-EYE documentation also names Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 and Visual C++ 2010. These facts do not prove that every S-EYE release uses the same runtime.

Install the runtime versions indicated by the S-EYE installer or application files:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Microsoft’s Visual C++ Redistributable downloads.
  2. Locate the legacy Visual C++ section.
  3. Download the x86 installer for Visual C++ 2010 SP1 when required by the camera software.
  4. Install Visual C++ 2013 x86 if the S-EYE installation contains msvcp120.dll or msvcr120.dll.
  5. Leave other Visual C++ versions installed. These runtimes are designed to coexist.
  6. Restart Windows and test S-EYE.

Do not install only the x64 package because Windows is 64-bit. The application architecture determines which runtime it loads.

For the managed prerequisite:

  1. Open Microsoft’s .NET Framework 4.8 Runtime page.
  2. Download and install the runtime.
  3. Restart Windows.
  4. Run the S-EYE installer again if it previously stopped during prerequisite checks.

The old S-EYE documentation refers to .NET Framework 4.0, which is obsolete. Installing a supported .NET Framework runtime does not guarantee compatibility with every legacy installer, so retain the original camera vendor package and follow its prerequisite prompts.

4. Check whether antivirus quarantined the file

Security software can remove an application DLL after installation or during a later scan.

  1. Open Start and search for Windows Security.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Choose Protection history.
  4. Expand detections related to S-EYE or chd_wmp.dll.
  5. Confirm that the affected file came from the camera manufacturer’s installer.
  6. Restore or allow the file only if you have verified the installer’s source.
  7. Reinstall S-EYE if the quarantine removed part of the application.
  8. Start the camera software and test it.

Do not create a broad exclusion for the entire Windows directory. If the vendor installer is repeatedly detected, preserve the detection name and contact the camera manufacturer or your security administrator.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Match the error message to the repair

Windows message Likely meaning Best next step
“chd_wmp.dll is missing” The file was deleted, quarantined, or never installed Repair or reinstall S-EYE
“The specified module could not be found” The DLL or one of its dependencies is unavailable Check the S-EYE folder, then install the correct x86 runtimes
“Entry point not found” The DLL does not match the executable or another component Remove and reinstall the complete matching S-EYE package
“Not designed to run on Windows” The binary is corrupt or incompatible Reinstall from the camera manufacturer
Error remains after the file is restored Another dependency, driver, or camera component may be failing Test the runtimes, drivers, antivirus history, and full installation

If the file exists but S-EYE still fails, inspect the exact executable named by the error. The missing component may not be chd_wmp.dll.

6. Update the camera driver only when the camera also fails

A camera driver will not normally recreate an application-private DLL. Update it when S-EYE opens but cannot detect the USB microscope or industrial camera, or when Device Manager reports a device problem.

  1. Disconnect the camera.
  2. Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
  3. Expand Cameras, Imaging devices, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  4. Look for a warning icon or an unknown device.
  5. Right-click the affected device and choose Update driver.
  6. Select Search automatically for drivers.
  7. If the camera manufacturer supplies a driver package, choose Browse my computer for drivers and select that package.
  8. Restart Windows and reconnect the camera.
  9. Test the device in S-EYE.

Avoid replacing a working camera driver merely because chd_wmp.dll is missing. Reinstalling S-EYE remains the definitive repair for a missing application file.

When manually checking several camera models and driver packages, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for stale drivers and show what it found; the free scan identifies the issue, while driver installation is handled by the full version. It is optional, and it does not replace reinstalling the correct S-EYE package.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

7. Repair Windows components only as a fallback

SFC and DISM do not normally recreate a third-party DLL stored in an S-EYE folder. Use them when Windows itself is damaged or several unrelated applications report missing system files.

  1. Open Start and type cmd.
  2. Right-click Command Prompt.
  3. Select Run as administrator.
  4. Run this command:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait for it to finish.
  2. Then run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Test S-EYE again.

Microsoft documents this order in its System File Checker guidance. If both commands complete successfully but S-EYE still reports the same error, return to the camera software installation rather than repeatedly running system scans.

If you are repeatedly hunting through Windows components and cannot determine what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can show a scan of detected issues; the free scan identifies problems, while repairs are performed by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling S-EYE remains the definitive fix for its private DLL.

8. Use System Restore after a clearly identified system change

Use System Restore when the failure began immediately after a Windows update, driver installation, or unrelated software installation.

  3. Press Enter.
  4. Select a restore point dated before the failure.
  5. Choose Scan for affected programs, if available.
  6. Confirm the restore and restart Windows.
  7. Test S-EYE.

System Restore can roll back system files, registry settings, and installed programs without normally affecting personal documents. It cannot substitute for the correct S-EYE installer if the application files were already missing.

Do not download or register the DLL manually

Random DLL download sites can provide malware, the wrong architecture, a mismatched release, or a file that does not fix the missing dependency. Do not copy chd_wmp.dll into System32 or SysWOW64, and do not mix it with files from another S-EYE version.

regsvr32 is also not a general DLL repair command. It applies to registerable DLLs that expose the appropriate registration entry points. There is no verified evidence that chd_wmp.dll is a self-registering COM or ActiveX component, so running commands such as these is not an appropriate first repair:

regsvr32 chd_wmp.dll
regsvr32 /32 chd_wmp.dll

Restore the complete application instead.

FAQ

Is chd_wmp.dll part of Windows Media Player?

No verified evidence identifies it as a Windows Media Player component. The wmp part of the filename is not enough to establish that relationship.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Where should chd_wmp.dll be located?

It should normally be beside the S-EYE executable that loads it, inside the camera application’s installation directory. It should not be placed in a Windows system folder.

Should I install the 32-bit or 64-bit Visual C++ runtime?

Use the architecture of S-EYE, not the architecture of Windows. Older S-EYE installations use 32-bit files and commonly require the x86 runtime.

What if the DLL exists but Windows still reports it as missing?

The message may refer to a dependency of the DLL. Reinstall the matching S-EYE package and install the required x86 Visual C++ runtimes. If the error says “entry point” or “not designed to run,” suspect a mismatched or damaged S-EYE installation.

Is the file’s original developer known?

No authoritative public record establishes its original developer, signing status, internal description, or complete version history. Treat an isolated copy found outside the S-EYE directory as unverified.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should I send the camera vendor?

Provide the camera model, S-EYE version or installer name, Windows version, the exact error text, the path where the DLL was found, and whether reinstalling the complete vendor package changed the result.
