The lowest displayed total in the current offers is ServerProject’s €1.50 gross price for a six-slot, 30-day configuration, while KGB Hosting advertises €0.40 per slot in Frankfurt. Those figures are not like-for-like: they use different slot counts, currencies, locations and service terms. For a server that is still good, match the data center to your players, buy enough slots, and verify mod, backup, protection and renewal conditions before paying.
What “still good” means for a CS 1.6 server
A low monthly number only answers one question: what a provider displayed for one configuration. It does not prove low ping, stable tick performance, responsive support or painless recovery after a crash. For Counter-Strike 1.6, a suitable host should satisfy five practical tests:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Location: a data center close to the people who will play most often.
- Capacity: enough player slots for your normal match, with room for spectators or late joiners if needed.
- Control: panel or file access for AMX Mod X, plugins, custom maps and configuration files.
- Resilience: clearly described DDoS mitigation, backups and crash recovery.
- Commercial clarity: a known billing period, currency, tax treatment, renewal price and available location.
The prices below were observed on provider pages in 2026. Promotions, inventory and checkout totals can change, and no independent ping, uptime or support-response testing was performed. Treat provider uptime and support statements as claims to verify, not as measured results.
Current low-cost options compared
| Provider | Displayed offer | Location and capacity details | Included or stated features | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ServerProject | €1.50 for the displayed six-slot, 30-day configuration; gross price including VAT. | Order widget showed Poland or France with six slots selected. | DDoS protection, management panel, HLTV/public demo archive, automatic fast download, backups, crash-recovery system and a free database. | This is an observed configuration, not a verified general starting price. The page says renewal is no more than the purchase amount before discount codes. |
| KGB Hosting | From €0.40 per slot in Frankfurt and €0.60 per slot in Zagreb. | The selector showed 12 slots. Belgrade was marked unavailable and the page advised choosing Zagreb. | Mod support, HLTV, anti-cheat compatibility, custom maps, instant setup and DDoS protection. | Confirm the selected slot count, monthly total and location at checkout. The per-slot figure is not a guaranteed final invoice. |
| Nitrous Networks | Protected plans from £4.50 per month for 10–64 players. | Several network locations are listed; select the one nearest your group. | Unlimited RAM, DDoS protection, free mod installation and free MySQL. | The page states UK prices include 20% VAT. Confirm player count and location at checkout. |
| 1up Servers | €2.99 for an advertised 24/7 CS 1.6 server. | Provider describes Valve’s HLDS with the cstrike mod, opening on de_dust2 for 16 players. | Provider estimates about 150 MB of memory and under 1 GB of files. | The service is explicitly marked beta, and its server image may change without notice. The price is not evidence of proven stability. |
| Independent comparison prices | TopServer.Network’s October 2026 comparison reported $4.09/month billed in GBP for EUGameHost, $5.94 for GTXGaming and $6.94 for Streamline Servers. | These were the lowest reported starts among four hosts in that comparison. | The comparison advises checking slots, RAM, data-center distance, plugin support and DDoS inclusion. | These are that publisher’s reported starting prices, not independently verified checkout quotes or performance tests. |
On displayed total alone, ServerProject is the cheapest of the clearly configured offers. KGB Hosting can be cheaper per slot, but its final cost depends on the selected location and number of slots. Nitrous Networks costs more in absolute terms while bundling a larger 10–64-player range and protected-plan features. 1up Servers is inexpensive but carries the provider’s explicit beta warning.

Choose by player location before choosing by price
Why region matters
Counter-Strike 1.6 is sensitive to round-trip delay. A server in a distant region can feel worse than a slightly more expensive server nearby, even when both advertise the same slots and CPU resources. Start with where your regular players live, not where the lowest currency number appears. If your group is split between countries, choose the location that gives the largest number of players an acceptable ping, then test the outliers during a real match.
How to validate a location
- List the cities or countries represented by your regular players.
- Use the provider’s current location selector to confirm that the desired data center is actually orderable. KGB Hosting, for example, marked Belgrade unavailable while recommending Zagreb.
- Ask several players to test latency to that region, or join a trial server if the provider offers one. Record typical and worst-case ping at the hours you play.
- Check the route again after installation. A nearby country is not a guarantee of a better route because an internet service provider may take a longer path.
None of the prices in the table establishes a ping result. A host should only be called “good” for your group after the chosen region performs acceptably for the players who matter.
Match slots and billing to your actual group
Small private matches
For a handful of friends, six to 10 slots may be sufficient. ServerProject’s displayed six-slot configuration at €1.50 is unusually low as a total, but adding spectators or public players may make it too small. Nitrous Networks starts at 10 players, so its £4.50 entry point is not a direct comparison with six slots.
Ten- to 12-player groups
KGB Hosting’s selector showed 12 slots. At the advertised rate, 12 slots would calculate to €4.80 in Frankfurt (12 × €0.40) or €7.20 in Zagreb (12 × €0.60) before checkout-specific taxes, billing rules or changes. Those are arithmetic illustrations, not confirmed monthly invoices; verify the cart total.

Sixteen-player public play
1up Servers describes a 16-player de_dust2 setup, with an estimated footprint of about 150 MB of memory and under 1 GB of files. That makes the offer easy to size on paper, but its beta status and change-without-notice image caveat are material risks for a public community. A more established panel, backup policy and support process may be worth the extra monthly cost.
Large or growing communities
Nitrous Networks lists protected plans for 10–64 players, unlimited RAM, free mod installation and free MySQL. This is a better fit when your server may grow or when a plugin stack needs a database, but compare the exact player tier and location rather than assuming the £4.50 entry price applies to every configuration.
Check customization before ordering
A cheap vanilla server is not useful if you cannot install the game mode your group expects. Before purchase, confirm all of the following in the panel documentation or with support:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- AMX Mod X installation and plugin upload methods.

- HLTV or demo recording if you run matches or review cheaters.
- Anti-cheat compatibility and permission to run your chosen server-side tools.
- MySQL access when a statistics, ranking or administration plugin needs a database.
- Console access, log viewing and resource monitoring for troubleshooting.
KGB Hosting lists mod support, custom maps, HLTV and anti-cheat compatibility. ServerProject lists a management panel, HLTV/public demo archive and automatic fast download. Nitrous Networks lists free mod installation and free MySQL. Atomic Networks describes a panel with console, file manager, server importing, logs and resource monitoring, along with uptime, support and instant-delivery claims; those service claims are not independent measurements.

Protection, backups and recovery are part of the price
DDoS protection
All of the principal offers above mention DDoS protection, but the wording does not reveal attack-size limits, filtering locations, mitigation time or whether protection covers the game port continuously. Ask what happens during an attack, whether your IP changes, and whether there are fair-use or emergency suspension rules.
Backups and crash recovery
ServerProject specifically lists backups and a crash-recovery system. Other providers may offer snapshots or restoration only on higher tiers, so ask how often backups run, how long they are retained and whether you can restore files yourself. A backup that exists but cannot be downloaded or restored quickly is not equivalent to a tested recovery plan.
Support and incident handling
Look for the support channel, operating hours and escalation process before paying. Ask who handles a failed startup, corrupted map or plugin conflict, and whether support can restore a known-good configuration. Marketing statements about uptime or fast support should remain provider claims unless you have independent measurements.
Step-by-step: buy the cheapest suitable server
- Define the match. Write down expected player count, private or public visibility, required mods, maps, databases and acceptable ping.
- Shortlist two regions. Choose the nearest available data centers for your player distribution, not merely the lowest advertised currency.
- Normalize prices. Convert currencies for your budget, note whether VAT is included, record the billing period, and separate per-slot prices from plan totals.
- Check renewal. Record the regular renewal amount and any discount expiration. ServerProject states renewal is no more than the purchase amount before discount codes; do not generalize that rule to other hosts.
- Verify capacity. Select the exact slot tier you need. Do not compare a six-slot total with a 12- or 16-player plan as if they were equivalent.
- Verify tools. Confirm AMX Mod X, custom maps, file access, console, logs, HLTV and any MySQL requirement before placing the order.
- Read protection terms. Confirm DDoS scope, backups, retention and restoration steps. Save the support contact and emergency procedure.
- Test immediately. Install the intended map and plugins, invite players from each main region, watch logs and measure ping during the busiest expected period.
- Keep a rollback. Export configuration files and plugin lists before making changes. If an update breaks the server, restore the last known-good set rather than troubleshooting live during a match.
Common cheap-hosting pitfalls and fixes
“From” pricing hides the real configuration
A per-slot headline may apply only to one region or a minimum order. Open the selector, set the exact slots, choose the intended data center and continue to the final price screen before comparing.
The cheapest region is unavailable
Inventory can change. KGB Hosting’s page showed Belgrade unavailable and directed customers to Zagreb. If your preferred region disappears, re-test ping from the replacement location rather than assuming it will feel the same.
A beta image changes unexpectedly
1up Servers warns that its beta server image may change without notice. Keep your own copies of server.cfg, plugin configurations, map lists and downloaded assets. Confirm how the provider handles image updates before using the server for a scheduled public event.
Plugins consume more resources than the base game
The base CS 1.6 footprint can be small, but large plugin stacks, log retention and databases add operational work. Start with only the required plugins, inspect resource graphs, and disable one change at a time when diagnosing crashes.
Currency and tax make a bargain look different at checkout
Nitrous Networks states that UK prices include 20% VAT. ServerProject’s displayed prices are gross and include VAT. Other offers may show a net or converted figure until checkout. Record the final recurring charge in your own currency, including tax and payment fees.
Which option fits which buyer?
| Your situation | Most relevant starting point | Why | What to verify first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Six friends, private server, nearby Poland or France location | ServerProject’s displayed six-slot configuration | €1.50 gross for 30 days with panel, backups and crash recovery listed. | Whether six slots remain enough and whether your exact location is available at checkout. |
| Players near Frankfurt or Zagreb who want 10–12 slots | KGB Hosting | Advertised €0.40/slot in Frankfurt and €0.60/slot in Zagreb, with mod and map features listed. | Final 12-slot total, location availability and renewal terms. |
| Protected 10-player plan or a community that may grow | Nitrous Networks | Plans listed for 10–64 players with unlimited RAM, DDoS protection, mod installation and MySQL. | Exact player tier, location and VAT-inclusive checkout price. |
| Experimental, very low-cost 16-player server | 1up Servers beta offer | €2.99 advertised 24/7 setup with a stated 16-player de_dust2 image. | Whether beta changes and support limitations are acceptable for your use. |
| Need detailed administration tools | A provider with documented console, file, log and monitoring controls | Atomic Networks describes those panel functions. | Actual availability, pricing, backups and support terms for your selected plan. |
Bottom line: cheapest that is still good
For a tiny private group, ServerProject’s observed €1.50 six-slot configuration is the strongest low-total starting point, provided its Poland or France location gives your players acceptable ping and the checkout still shows the same terms. KGB Hosting is the price-per-slot contender, but calculate the full total for the available region and slots. Nitrous Networks is the more capacity-oriented choice when you need 10–64 players, mod installation, MySQL and a protected plan. 1up Servers can be attractive for experimentation, yet its explicit beta warning means it should not be treated as a proven stable public server.
Whichever offer you choose, the purchase is only successful when the selected region, slot count, mod access, protection, backup process and recurring price all match your group’s needs. The cheapest advertised number is a shortlist entry, not a universal winner.
