Schlep had been banned by Roblox over activity the company described as vigilantism. The dispute is about both child safety and whether privately run decoy investigations can put users or official investigations at risk.
What is Chris Hansen investigating on Roblox?
Hansen, known for NBC’s To Catch a Predator, announced in August 2025 that he was investigating child exploitation on Roblox. Dexerto reported that he had contacted law enforcement and Schlep. ABC News later reported that Hansen and Schlep had teamed up. These reports establish an announced investigation and reported collaboration at that time; they do not establish whether a documentary has since been released or where it can be watched. Dexerto’s report
Who is Schlep, and why did Roblox ban him?
Schlep is a Roblox-focused YouTuber who used accounts posing as underage players to engage adult Roblox users, according to ABC News. He said his efforts had led to at least six arrests. ABC also reported that Arkansas police had made no public statements about the stings, so the arrest figure remains Schlep’s claim in the reporting, not an independently confirmed count. ABC News’ account
Roblox issued Schlep a cease-and-desist notice. ABC News reported that the company objected to what it called “simulated child endangerment” and to conversations being taken off the platform. Roblox said: “Actions taken by vigilante groups increase the risk of more users being exposed to bad actors and can delay enforcement efforts by both Roblox and law enforcement.” ABC News’ report, including Roblox’s statement

Why Roblox calls this kind of activity vigilantism
Roblox’s stated objection is that independently run decoy operations can resemble the behavior the company is trying to stop while moving conversations beyond its moderation and reporting systems. In a February 2026 report, The Post quoted Roblox Chief Safety Officer Matt Kaufman saying: “Similar to actual predators, they often impersonated minors, actively approached other users, then tried to lead them to other platforms to have sexually explicit conversations (which is against our Terms of Use).” That is Roblox’s explanation of its rationale, not an independent finding about Schlep’s conduct. The Post’s report
How Schlep disputes Roblox’s account
Schlep disputed the company’s characterization and said he had worked with authorities. ABC News quoted him saying he had asked Roblox for a direct channel to report suspected offenders. “I’ve made it clear since the beginning,” he said. “After one of my first catches, I was like, ‘Hey, I want to work with you. I was a victim of the platform. This is why I do it. And I would love some form of communication where I can just directly report these people to you, because their reports just don’t work’.” That describes Schlep’s account of his intentions and experience; the available reporting does not settle the dispute over how effective or safe his methods were.

The trade-off: independent stings versus platform and police processes
The disagreement is not simply whether child exploitation is a serious concern. It is about who should investigate suspected offenders and how. Roblox argues that decoy activity and off-platform contact can expose users to bad actors or interfere with enforcement. Schlep says platform reporting was inadequate and that he sought cooperation. Those are competing claims about risk and process, not proof that either approach is effective in every case.
- Roblox’s stated approach: use platform enforcement and reporting, with concerns that independent stings may increase exposure or delay law-enforcement work.
- Schlep’s stated approach: use decoy accounts and pursue suspected offenders, while saying he sought a direct reporting relationship with Roblox and worked with authorities.
The sources cited here do not provide an independently confirmed arrest total, a statistic measuring the prevalence of predators on Roblox, or evidence establishing the effectiveness of Schlep’s activity. The Post reported in February 2026 that Schlep and attorney Mike Mandell were involved in litigation concerning Roblox; that report alone does not establish the case’s current status.
