For a static Christmas frame, border, or corner decoration, add the artwork to OBS as an Image source. For festive alerts, chat, or another interactive widget, add its provider page as a Browser source. In either case, layer decorations around—not over—gameplay, faces, chat, and important on-screen text.
Christmas stream overlay ideas that work for gaming
A subtle seasonal frame
Try a thin evergreen, warm-light, or snowflake border around your camera or the full scene. A transparent PNG can preserve clear areas so the game remains visible. Put the frame above the sources it surrounds.
Small corner accents
Place ornaments, holly, stars, gift boxes, or snowflakes in unused corners. Keep the center of the game and any important HUD elements clear; a decoration that hides a minimap, health bar, or subtitles can make the stream harder to follow.
Matching scene cards
Create coordinated “Starting Soon,” “Be Right Back,” and “Stream Ending” layouts, alongside the main live scene. Matching colors and motifs make the holiday treatment feel deliberate without requiring a permanent border over gameplay. Streamlabs lists these as examples of scenes to make when building an overlay manually. Streamlabs’ overlay guide

Animated snow or lights
A transparent animation or hosted overlay can add movement, but check that it plays and remains readable in your streaming software. The setup documentation for OBS and Streamlabs explains image and browser sources; it does not establish the performance cost or license terms of any particular animated asset.
Interactive festive alerts
Use an alert provider’s widget URL as a Browser source if you want events such as follows or donations to appear over the stream. OBS notes that alerts are not built into OBS itself; they are commonly supplied by a third-party service. OBS sources guide Keep account-linked widget URLs private.

Add a Christmas overlay in OBS Studio
- Create or select a scene. In OBS, choose the scene that will use the Christmas layout. A separate seasonal scene or scene collection is a practical way to keep a non-holiday setup available, though it is not required.
- Add the correct source. In the Sources dock, select the plus button and choose Image for a local static graphic or Browser for a hosted overlay or widget. OBS describes these source types in its sources guide.
- Set up a Browser source if needed. Get the widget URL from its provider and enter it in the Browser source properties. OBS describes embedding third-party alert overlays this way. Treat private, account-linked widget URLs like credentials: do not post them publicly. OBS: Streamlabs overlays in OBS
- Arrange the layer and position. Place the overlay above the content it decorates, then resize and position it so it does not cover gameplay, a camera face, captions, or status text. OBS documents source ordering and positioning in its sources guide.
- Preview and test. Check the whole scene at stream size. For an alert widget, use the provider’s test function when available; Streamlabs documents a dashboard test option for its alerts. Streamlabs’ overlay guide

Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a pre-recorded YouTube stream running around the clock, that is separate from adding an overlay in OBS: StreamNeo plays uploaded videos on YouTube, not a live camera feed. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It keeps the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, without re-encoding, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start your free day.
