Chromatic Hexga is an optional boss in Stone Wave Cliffs Cave, on a small beach east of Stone Wave Cliffs. You can reach the cave in Act 2 with Esquie’s help. The key to the fight is shooting the crystal on Hexga’s back until its charge returns to white before the boss acts; ice attacks are effective, while fire is resisted.
Where is Chromatic Hexga?
Look for Stone Wave Cliffs Cave east of the Stone Wave Cliffs, rather than on the main route through the cliffs. The cave is on a small beach and becomes reachable in Act 2 after you can travel with Esquie. The encounter is optional, so you can leave it for later or skip it while progressing the story. Gamepressure’s boss guide and the GameFAQs location walkthrough both place it in the cave and describe access with Esquie.

- Use Esquie to swim to the cave east of Stone Wave Cliffs.
- Follow the cave’s linear route and use the grapples to advance.
- When you reach the area above the boss, descend the projecting stone and grapple down to the encounter, following the route described by the GameFAQs walkthrough.
How to defeat Chromatic Hexga?
Build your turns around controlling the large crystal on Hexga’s back. Gamepressure says the crystal charges at the end of each turn, progressing from white through yellow and orange to red. Increasing charge strengthens Hexga’s attacks and reduces damage it takes; at full charge, it becomes untouchable. Shoot the crystal until it returns to white before Hexga gets to act. Keep the crystal discharged
Use shots to lower the crystal’s charge and aim to bring it back to white on your turn. Once it is discharged, further shooting can destroy it, which prevents it from charging again. Keep enough AP available for at least one character to discharge the crystal; spending every point on other attacks can leave you exposed to a more dangerous turn.

Remove shields without losing crystal control
Hexga gains shields at the end of each round. Gamepressure recommends clearing them with shots, multi-hit skills, or Maelle’s Breaking Rules. Choose among these based on the AP you need to retain: shield removal matters, but it should not leave you unable to shoot the crystal when it needs to be reset.
Exploit its weakness and avoid its resistance
Chromatic Hexga is weak to ice and resists fire, according to the Expedition 33 Wiki’s weakness listing. Prefer ice attacks when choosing damage skills; do not rely on fire for this fight.

Read the documented attacks
- Shield-enhanced combo: Hexga jumps diagonally at a character, then follows with two pirouettes. The sequence repeats more times as the crystal gains charge, so resetting the crystal also limits how threatening this attack becomes.
- Party-wide attack: Hexga accelerates suddenly before striking the whole party. Watch for that movement change and prepare to defend.
